Guest Captain Koivu#11
I think he is going to be fine. His new found speed is allowing him to get off more shots IMO. I agree!
flames4eva
I hope those Ryder bashers will be unemployed but then, of course, so will I. It has been hard work defending him. Maybe now I will have to see that he gets the credit he deserves - I must be working as hard as his agent for getting him recognition.Just take a look at his stats to date. Six games, only 9 shots - most unRyder-like. There were games last year that he must have had close to that. More assists than goals. Fifteen hits - third on the team, the most being Begin with twenty. Four takeaways (best on the team is six) versus one giveaway (Koivu, for example, has one takeaway and four giveaways). Average ice team is 15:17, over 4 minutes less than even Kovalev, who is not played on the penalty kill (or, if he is, shouldn't be). A plus 2, even though he has not figured in on the two Higgins shorthanders that puts Higgins at plus 3. I know it is early in the season, but this is like a completely different player. Last night, for example, I thought Ryder was the best player on the ice for the Habs (other than Aebi, perhaps). He carried the puck a lot and created what I thought were very good opportunities. He got the Blackhawks to take the last penalty, the chance for the Habs to tie it up, by his speed and perseverence. And yet, when you go to the Canadiens web page this morning, it is all about Sheldon Souray (???), Koivu and Higgins? What? Ryder is quietly becoming a great two-way player and has greater confidence... no longer a defensive liability I believe and could surely use more ice-time. BTW could I ask you where you get the stats that you've mentioned in your posts?bw6

tommyv
I bet his herniated disk in his back had alot to say about that, he was also quite quick on his feet in his rookie year, he was able to make those crisp cuts to the boards and into the slot like he is doing this year. hockey_gal89
I'm not the kind of guy to ruub it in people's faces or boast in anyway...however...I TOLD YOU SO! Ryder Rocks!
Guest Lafleurs Guy
Ryder deserves the recognition. He could've gone to arbitration and won. Instead he took less money to stay here. The man deserves a raise.
Guest gumper
Ryder has the potential to become, if he is not already, the best opportunist in the league. A great player if I say so myself.
Guest Gabe3
Well, I'm happy with how he's been performing so far. 5 pts in 6 games. Not so bad He's at +/- 2, which is not so bad too.
crognalsen
I must agree that the whole line of Higgens/Koivu/Ryder looks excellent so far this season and Ryder continues to beat people with his speed amazingly.
franck5890
I've never seen this guy play with so much hustle, speed and determination in his career with the Habs. Way to go Mike, keep it up!

Well, I do recall Ryder saying that the injury he had last year prevented him from working out during the season like he would have liked to . For the most part, he said he tried not to gain weight 'casue he couldn't work out properly
Guest Gabe3
Ryder scored a pretty nice goal tonight. He was on a sharp angle and managed to put it top net Great job. The pass he recieved was perfect though.

Guest gottaHABit
I think it's time the coaching staff woke up and started giving this guy more ice time. He lead the team in multiple scoring categories last year while playing with a herniated disc in his back, and one of those categories was PP goals where he almost tied a franchise record! We were down 3-0 in the third period last night, and this guy wasn't used first string on the power play??? For goodness sakes, if we desperately need goals shouldn’t we use players with proven track records? Who cares what round they were drafted from? I didn't see the game last night, but I understand that the first line had some real struggles. Of course, that might be largely due to the match-ups with the Buffalo players who are, without question, a force to be reckoned with this year. Was Carbo just trying out some variations on the power play? I have been impressed with Johnson of late, but I am not sure that Bonk is going to pot too many bullets into the top right corner. The way is see Ryder is this - it doesn't matter what he does or what he is able to do or whether he could score last year with the bones sticking clear out his his back - this year, Higgins is the star (and I like Higgins), Souray has managed to score a bit (while being defensively scary), Koivu and Kovalev walk on water and Ryder is always the one who should be traded or put on the third line (while Gui moves up, for example) or sat on the bench. Go to any thread here - if Ryder is mentioned, it is about trading him or how he is a liability. The success of the first line is about Higgins and Koivu and Ryder is along for the ride - or so they say. I don't think the guy can win as long as he plays with the Habs. I think the best thing that can happen to him is to be traded. However, he was interviewed the other night, and he seems happy enough, so who am I to say. Maybe the team really is a team this year and is not bothered by the constant dissention on the part of the fans and media.

My favourite line yesterday was the 4th one, they probably showed the most effort. Ryder showed great effort for his line aswell. Kovalev took some horrible penalties, and didn't do good at all for his line last night.

People always want more from the guy but the guy is a scorer. When Glen Murray was doing the scoring in Boston people didnt tear him apart but he was weak defensively or that the only thing he did was score. The fact is u need a player like that on ur team. Ryder is what he is, a sniper. I for one, think that is more than enough. But thats not all he does. He works his butt off, always backchecks, uses his body and lately has been playing much better defensively and the VS announcers even mentioned how everyone on that line has played solid D...I dont get why people always want more from the guy. He is an amazing PP player, and in this NHL u need that!...Imagine if he werent on this team this year and the last 2. Who would be scoring? Who would have scored all those GWG's and PPG's. Maybe if he wasnt here people could then realize the huge impact he does infact have and in that way people would then know that this team does NEED him
