tmash
I don't know... seeing guys like Semin, Ovechkin and Malkin coming straight out of the Russian Elite league makes me think that the caliber of hockey out there is pretty darn good, especially that he was picked to represent his country at the World, he must be pretty good... I'd certainly like to see him at least try out here. He can't do worst than Bouillon, Dandenault, Niinimaa or Streit in my opinion. It's not the quality of play that worries me, its the North American game. Semin was not very good his first season here. Even in our season, its taken a long time for Kostitsyn to adjust, the year in the AHl has been good for Grabovski, both from Russia. Ovechkin and Malkin obviously are exceptions. I just don't think it would hurt to let him adjust in the AHL for awhile.

tmash
Would a new transfer agreement between the NHL and the Russian teams make any difference to Emelin's availability? Because I heard that one was close to being worked out. I believe if we had the transfer agreement, we'd pay the half million or whatever and he'd be ours. Guest Tony Montana
BUt YEmelin is already a deffensive deffenceman, hes a big guy and can lay big hits. I beleive it wont take him long to adjust because he fits in north american hockey very well. Semin was a skilled player tht was only able to shoot and deek when he came into the league and he was very weak, so had to bild up mass same with our Andrei Koztisen. YEmelin is alreayd a big powerfull D. I cant wait till the pairing Komi and Yemelin hit the his its gonna be koas!

Think about the centennial season, if we sign Brad Stuart this summer (as I really hope): Markov-Komi Yemelin-Stuart Souray-Dandenault Streit That is a defense that could do some damage. It has everything, solid stay at home type, guys who can make the first pass, PP specialists, speed, size, and skill.

A lot of unlikely things have to happen for us to get a defense like this...I must say it would be up in the top 5 in all around efficiency. tmash
A lot of unlikely things have to happen for us to get a defense like this...I must say it would be up in the top 5 in all around efficiency. Well 4 main things 1.) Sign both Souray and Markov 2.) Sign Stuart as a UFA 3.) Yemelin comes to North America and is ready after a year in the AHL. 4.) Move Bouillion Now all of those things on their own aren't that unlikely to happen, but your right that all of them together probably won't happen. Guest Hab
If anyone' watching the World Championships. Emelin(There's no Y on his jersey) scored a nice Shorthanded goal and added an assist. But then he got elbowed by some meatball, but it doesn't look too serious.
Guest Hoser
With Markov out of the Russian lineup, Emelin comes up huge for the Ruskies, with a shortie and another assist... The kid plays very well when he gets the chance too. Give him minutes and he'll preform. I don't care if you need to get Scorpion involved in the contract negotiations, get him over here!! Very nice game by Emelin, his goal was really nice I liked that whole passing play too, I really liked it that the announcers on TSN talked so much about him aswell.......Too bad Konstantin Korneev wasn't a factor in that game
Guest xe_liam88
apparently this guy is meaner than Komi and souray combined?????? I think to take the next step we need a "dirty" player, someone who will stur up some contreversy and absolutley annihalate guys. Look what Avery did for the Rangers (contraversy wise). Not saying I want to see a stick swinger or someone who will spend half his career suspended, but I want to see a guy in MTL who could care less if he has some bruises and is hungry for the next hit. i think too many of our players are too afraid to make that one dirty hit that will have other teams thinking twice before they go into the corners. We need a guy with the mentality to say during the first shift of the hockey game "Seek and destroy their captain". Our players are not mean enough and thats what excites me about Emelin. Guest jennifer_rocket
Volchenkov improved dude...He wasn't good like that the year before. He did improve - From being a 5-6 guy, to maybe even being considered a 1-2 guy. Also, my God does he block shots like it's nothing. If This Emelin guy is anything like Volchenkov, get him over here for next year. Let him play the AHL, then throw him into the lineup as a 5-6, and he can build himself up. If you look at the teams vying for that Cup right now, it's consistently a great mix of old and young. Emelin could be that young 5-6 guy we need to help us over the hump in the next 2 or 3 years. Guest bigsby
i'd love to see emelin over here next year. i think he's going to be a great d-man. how many years does emelin have left on his contract, two or one? can't he get out of his contract (isn't there a loophole that they can use to break their agreement) like other players have done or because there's no transfer agreement can players no longer sign with another club? look at toews...world junior and world championship in the same year. could easily crack the blackhawks lineup next year. i'm hoping the same will happen with emelin! franck5890
It's most likely a case of Russian spelling vs. English spelling, such as Kastsitsyn/Kostitsyn was when he emerged with the team.
Guest MTL_RULES
I think if he comes over, we almost need to guarantee him a spot on the squad, and doing so as 7th d-man wouldnt be horrible. I'd love to see him play 82 games with Hamilton first, but he has handled men in Russia for awhile now, so I'd say he is more than ready to play 6th or 7th for the Habs. Especially when Niniima should be gone, and either Markov or Souray could be gone.

If he comes over, don't you think he'd be best served by spending a year in Hamilton getting accustomed to the North American game? With us he'll just sit on the bench. Guest bigsby
i always have trouble with deciding where a player is best served. i'd obviously like to see y/emelin with the big club but maybe he would be better prepared having spent a year in hamilton - at least he'd get the ice time down there. anyone have any pro/con examples to work with? markov i guess is as good an example as any for fulling his potential after being groomed in the minors but any cases where it didn't work out or where it might have been a waste of time? i can't think of any really. i guess i'm just impatient to see him play and habs management is always ever-so patient.
