tmash
According to http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news...75-6afafc9f821d says Montreal is close to signing him which he've also heard but Hickey says he might even be on the big club this season. Awesome! I'm really hoping this guy just needs a short stint in Hamilton before being ready. Just sign an offensive defenseman, and we should be set from the back end (hoping this guy works out). AK-1
Is it Emelin or Yemelin? Both work. One is in Russian, one is in English... but on the Habs website, it's Yemelin.
Guest bigsby
WOOOHOOOO!!!! That's awesome news if it's true. From what i've seen he's certainly has a good chance of making the big club next year. I'd say he's nhl ready. I can't wait!

Guest Talon
Looks like it might not happen. Apparently he has re-signed in Russia (With a different team). I'll try to find a link.

Guest Talon
If the kid is happy at home it makes sense. I just wonder where those reports of him being close to signing came from.

But those reports really boosted up my hopes of seeing him here next season.

A negociation tactic to get more from the Russian team? Speculation, of course. I'm kind of bummed about this. Shouldn't have got my hopes up. (or down, who knows?) If his contract is up and he signs another one, he's all but finished as our prospect. Very dissapointing. Hopefully this is just a rumour or has an escape clause or something. I was pretty pumped about seeing this guy over in North America playing some hockey, preparing to step into a Habs uniform this year or next year. This would be a major, major loss. C'mon Bob, get it done!

Guest TORHABSFAN
A lot of contracts in Europe hvae out clauses should the player want to leave for the NHL. Don't give up just yet.. The bigger consirn may be the salary.. How much did he get?

Guest 1970 Habs
Unfortunatelly it is true. Emelin has signed 2-years contract with Ak-Bars Kazan: http://www.ak-bars.ru/news/2695/ Wish I could read Russian. I would think that if Emelin signed a two year contract that he does not want to come over to North America yet. The Habs must have tried to get something done when they were dealing with Valentenko and things fell through. It only makes the window of opportunity for Emelin to play in the NHL smaller. After his contract in Russia does he become a UFA or does Montreal still own his rights (like Perezhogin)?

kerzhakov11
well, i've just read an interview with him , the gist of it: habs contacted him when he already signed for ak bars , there were just details to be done so ain't got too much options he doesn't want to talk about the nhl-clause , he said just "you'll see but i'm an ak bars player right now and i think only about kazan now" emelin would be great in montreal but he's still young so don't be disappointed too much ;)
