This kid thinks he will make the big club this year. Quite frankly, I think he may deserve a shot too. Him and his brother are not much different in terms of skill level, and Sergei has had lots of time to develop and get used to the NA style of play with the London Knights. I think a fourth line of A.Kostitsyn - M.Grabovski - S.Kostitsyn would be awesome. Energy, speed, and scoring! This could be our kid line, just like Anaheim had Penner-Perry-Getzlaf.

Ah. you're speaking my language. We need a real speedy kid line. That's why i don't like what gainey's doing signing smolinski or kostopolous.

Maybe next year. I see the second line this year with Higgins, Plekanec and Andrei Kostistyn.

Sergei will play in Hamilton this year.

However I think Grabovski (if he makes the team) should be moved to the wing.

Just thought I would put my 2 cents in....

For those that think kost was riding Kane and Gagne coat tails... I think you are wrong!!! JUst look at what he has accomplished in 2 years as a junior in Canada...

- 78 points, 26 goals and 52 assists, leading all Ontario Hockey League rookies in scoring during the 2005/06 season

- 13 Goals 24 assists 37 points in 19 play off games 05/06

- The London Knights named him the team's rookie of the year and the playoff performer of the year. 05/06

- Kostitsyn finished third in OHL and CHL scoring behind teammate Patrick Kane and Oshawa's John Tavares, tallying 40 goals and 131 points in only 59 games. His 91 assists broke the London Knights franchise record.

- He played in the World Junior Tourney 2006 for Belarus leading them to promotion to Pool A for 2007. He was also named tourney MVP for Pool B. ( note I believe he played on the 2005 team as well)

The kid has talent. I see him playing well for the bulldogs and you never know he could get called up to play with the Habs... IMO the kid will be an NHL star ( hopefully with the Habs) !!!!!!

And to think some people say that the Habs do not have top tier prospects.

I say this guy if he continues will be in the NHL full time after this year.

If S. Kostitsyn developes into an NHL star, he will be a prime example why you should never trade draft picks for quick fixes, even a 7th rounder

I don't understand why he wasn't taken earlier. I know that andrei had epilepsy problems that caused him to go higher up in the draft, but i find it highly unlikely that sergei JUST started to show his true colors after being drafted by the habs. Doesn't seem to make much sense to me, but for once ladyluck is finally shining down on us again :P

There are always diamonds in the ruff.

Much like Halak (7th round pick too I believe), I see Sergei as a diamond.

He is a little rough and needs just a little more polishing before he moves to the big Team.

When he does I think he will really shine. :D

You are right, about Halak and Sergei Kostitsyn being diamonds, but Halak is actually a 9th round choice. He is even more of a diamond then :P

I wasn't aware there was a ninth round...

He's 6'0 and 190 pounds. He's skinny. Let's hope he isnt the next more talented Mike Ribeiro.

If he can get bigger he's going to be a NHL star, for sure. :o

Yes and he just turned 20. Do not worry he will fill out. :)

At 20 I was 5'10", lifting weights and weighed only 165 lbs. It took me 3-4 years before I filled out in my mid twenties.

He is grittier and more talented than Mike Ribeiro too.

190 at 6'0 isn't really skinny especially since hes only 20.

And Ribeiro is 6'0 175.

Though it has been mentioned before I will mention it again. In Junior this year the coach was very confident in his abilities to play Sergei in any situation (power play, short handed, critical face offs etc...). Because of that confidence he really blossumed this year. He played many double shifts as well. It is that type of effort and on ice results that set an example (and leadership) for his teammates (Kane included).

As he has been playing the North American game for two years now I expect (and hope) to see him wearing the CH in Montreal after a year in Hamilton. This guy is the real deal and I truly believe he will be better than his brother.

Do you guys think he can be first line material in hamilton? I'm hoping that he's also one of the many callups there will be this season.

Yeah we have a lot of steals, its the sure bets were missing...

You got that right. If our first rounders turned out as good as our 3-7 rounders we wouldn't have many problems :P

He was playing in a second tier league, Bielorussia  The HABS probably went to see him because they had his brothers and their share the same DNA. Just like they found Grabovski when they went to see Andrei. In others words, no one else went to see them. Keep in mind that Bielorussia was a "new" country and most teams only scout those players at the u18.

Look at his brother, he's 6'0 and 200-205 and is build like a horse (said by teammates).

For any of you who may be questioning Sergei's grit thinking he's going to be another typical Euro softy; I suggest you watch the following clip. I think this kid would look spectacular on a line with Koivu and/or Ryder/Kovalev depanding on how arbitration plays out...IMHO of course.

oh every time i see that clip it puts a smile on my face. its crazy man
