Sergei Kostitsyn

Sergei really needs to play at least 10 games with the Habs this year. After he destroyed the points totals last year with London he needs to play the whole season with the Bulldogs and get called up if he keeps lighting it up. Point finale.

That would be great.

With the right linemates, maybe he will light it up in Hamilton but I guess we will have to wait and see!

If I'm Don Lever next season here's one line combination I'd definitely entertain:

Sergei Kostisyn; Mathieu Aubin; Matt D'Agostini

I think that line would be killer.

I can really see D'Agostini and Kostisyn clicking together but it would be interesting to see if Aubin's the guy for the middle.

I just think you need someone with size on that line. Kostitsyn and D'Agostini aren't exactly heavy weights.

Isn't Aubin like 6'4"

And Kostitsyn's a pretty good hitter

According to the team site he's about 6-3, 190 but I think he's fill-out since then (Aubin).

As for Kostitsyn and hitting: just ask Steve Downie how hard Sergei can hit.

yeah no kidding, i find alot of people that talk about sergei say his small and cant hit but his a really good hitter and dosnt shy away from the ruff stuff

do you know if kostitsyn(andrei) has a two way contract because if he does and hamilton makes the playoffs and montreal doesnt he could go down and play with him and reunite them for next year

Hmm, this threads been pretty quiet even after he scored his first goal in preseason.

Sergei's played well so far in the preseason. I wouldn't be surprised if he made the team out of camp!

Whooa there... in the first game against the Penguins, he was nowhere to be found.

However, during wednesday's game against the Islanders, he was good. Yes he scored, but he wasn't brilliant. No one was on our side. Except maybe Danis, but this could be argued.

Still, I only saw periods two and three so I cannot say for sure about what happened in the first...

I don't think that'll happen...

I think he'll play in Hamilton this year and pop up for a few games here and there over the course of the season.

I just don't think there's room for him. He wouldn't be a bad choice if Higgins has to miss any time though [knock on wood], as apparently he's shown a lot of chemistry with Ryder and Koivu through training camp.

There's 2 ways this can go for Sergei Kostitsyn:

1) Sergei could make the team and be placed on the left side of Koivu and Ryder with a 2nd scoring line of (Andrei) Kostitsyn, Plekanec and Higgins.

OR (More likely)

2) Sergei ends up in Hamilton and MTL goes with the following scoring lines:

Higgins, Koivu, Ryder

A. Kostitsyn, Pleks, Kovalev

Thoughts?

Unless something unexpected happens, I really don't see Sergei sticking with the Habs this year. He's simply too young and too raw. He has flashes of great play but mostly just looks like what he is right now: a boy among men. I would like to see him play a solid year in Hamilton so he can become a better all-around player and adjust himself to a level of play that's higher than the OHL but not so high that he's ineffective. Look at what time in Hamilton has done for some of our best young players: Higgins, Plekanec, Andrei Kostitsyn, O'Byrne, Chipchura, Halak.

I really think a year in the AHL would do wonders for Sergei's game.

And you're most definitely right. A year in Hamilton certainly wouldn't hurt his game. I am eager to see how he does though.

I too think he is bound for Hamilton. It will be nice if he can carry on with some of the offensive skills (he display in the OHL last year) in the AHL. I would live to see him have a good year.

I think he will have a great year in the AHL, from what I've seen so far he's just a little off. Not everyone can make the jump and skip a league. It's certainly no disrespect to play in the AHL.

I've said it before:

Sergei Kostitsyn will be to Andrei what Valeri Bure was to Pavel. He may make it one day but he won't have the impact of his brother. From watching Sergei for the past two year here in London he went from a clueless skilled youngster to an effective perimeter player who was very valuable on the power-play. This transformation took place over a very short period of time which is a good sign. Unfortunately, none of the Hunter brothers grit and fearlessness was passed on. Playing in traffic is an issue. Sergei also benefited from playing with linemates who matched or exceeded his skill level. Sergei's got a long way to go. Still not a bad pick in the seventh round.
