Wii vs. PS3 vs. XBOX 360

i own a PS3 and have played the other systems and i can say the PS3 is my favourite.

about the unreliability i know 6 people with 360's and all of them have broken twice at least (red ring of death)

I don't know to much about wii but to me it seems to be more for people who wouldn't normally give a crap about video games.

when they first brought out the wii they were aiming for the "casual gamer" and as much as I hate to admit it they did a good job catering to that demographic. My girlfriends mom wants to buy one for the her kids because "it looks so cute"

my co worker has a xbox 360 and I honestly don't think between, him and his girlfriend they log more then 10 hours a week on it. They are not playing for 5 hours at a time day in and day out which I honestly believe is the main reason theirs is still working. I remember reading a story on egm.com about this guy who had both an PS3 and Xbox360 and they were kept in this unit with glass doors. One kid wasplaying the xbox and the other wanted to play too. So the older child gives his younger sibling a PS3 controller so he can play too. Well I guess he hit the ps buttona and the PS3 booted up. since the doors were closed on the unit it got pretty damn hot in there. after a couple hours the xbox died because it overheated, maily because of the heat that cameoff the PS3

The PS3 will have a great year due to the to the price drops and some new games coming out (btw COD 4 is incredible, online is great too)

so in my opinion the PS3 would be the best way to go!

Yeah I've decided on going with the PS3, even though it costs a little more, I'm too busy to have hassel.

I feel the same way about the Wii, I think it looks like crap. But I when I think of Nintendo products I think of kids garbage, mind you the original Nintendo was ground breaking but everything since then has been crap.

I like the shooter/action games, not driving around a dinosaur and stomping on shells.

I bought it first for the price and innovativity, it's pretty neat. And FPS games are actually very good, the control and motion sensors respond fantastically. I wanted to wait for the PS3 to drop (since it obviously would) and voila!

And I was very hesitant about third-party support for the PS3 to begin with as well. If you've ever played any game developed by Nintendo (see: Mario, Zelda, Super Smash Brothers, etc) you know they're of the utmost quality.

I played the PS3 at a friend's house, and i don't see how people like the PS3 more...Overall, the graphics look way better on my 360, the 360 has more games and exclusive games. The only advantage i can see with the PS3 is the blu-ray, besides that i think the 360 wins hands down!

Mine has been running smoothly for 5 months now and i'm knocking on wood! I just got my live set-up (transfered from my original xbox) and it kicks major butt! NHL 08 and Madden 08 are unbelievable online! You can add me if you want...bud2790

Better graphics or not, why drop that much coin on something that is likely to be a hassel? I have yet to hear from a long-term 360 owner that nothing has gone wrong with it.

Most of 360s "exclusive" games come out on PC anyway.

the xbox360 has also been out longer then the PS3 too ;) that extra year can make a real difference. Also programers have had more time to work with the 360 then the PS3 so games like Madden for example look better on the 360. give it another year and you won't see much difference.

When came the time for me to buy a new console there was a big difference, thus why i went with the 360! Also, i mostly only play sports games including madden and they have madden running on 60FPS (frames per second) compared to 30 for the PS3. It makes a huge difference. I know the next Madden on PS3 will probably be 60FPS ( anyways, i hope for them lol) but overall, i just liked/like the 360 more!

Everyone has their own opinion on this subject, and i went 360.

Both are likely quite similar. The thing is, the PS3 technically is the better system. It was like before, Xbox was far and away more powerful than the PS2 - yet rarely could you see much of a difference. This is just because even though the system has all this extra power, the designers don't spend the time taking advantage of it. They also keep cross-platform in mind and are likely to write for the least powerful system (it's better to look a little weak on one system than to not have it work at all on one) - since they don't want to rewrite / draw the thing 3 different times.

Problem is, you can have all the powerful hardware you want, but until developers take advantage, it doesn't really matter. The last instance I can remember of a system truly being pushed to its limits was Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast.

I read an article about the dreamcast and how it ran soul caliber at 60 frames per second, and did it with no problems. That is pretty impressive considering alot of games don't reach that frame/speed now.

It takes a machines entire life cycle to fully reach it's limits. The PS2 has been putting out some impressive games in the past year which they couldn't do at the start of the PS2's life.

Same with the SNES. Near the end the games looked fantastic (Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger etc)

They might have hade more time with the 360 but there's a pretty big fundamental problem with the PS3, its graphic engine(GPU).

It's basically a Nvidia 7800 which not was not a next gen GPU when the console was released and for PCs it was used for medium range graphic cards. The low amount of video memory(128MB) is also a big problem for developers. On the other hand, the 360's GPU could still compare itself to high end graphic cards when the PS3 was released, it also has twice the video memory.

So even tho the PS3 is vastly more powerfull in processing power, what matters most for games is the GPU and video memory. That's why every non-exclusive game drops a little bit in visual quality on the PS3 and I highly doubt developers ever close the gap.

No doubt the quality will drop but with each console your always going to have pro's and cons

GTA 4 for example: word right now is they are having trouble getting the graphics to match up on the PS3 but they are having trouble with storage on the 360 disc's

My original point with the extra year is it still takes time to learn exactly what a system can and can not do. This time next year they should have Madden up to 60 frames per second on the PS3 ;)

Bud2790: my girlfriend and I went with a PS3 because of the exclusives like Ratchet & Clank and God of War. Plus we usually play more RPG's so the PS3 was the choice for us.

Each system has it's variety of games which it is better at. IMO the 360 has better sports game, which i'm a big fan of!

A few other games are having problems fitting everything on 1 CD so there's a good chance that in the future, PS3 games will be a lot more detailed as the bluray can carry 10 times the amount of textures.

...but every non-exclusive games on the PS3 are 360/PC ports and this cycle seems to have been broken with UT3 but that might be an exception.

That should be the main factor - the games. Does it really matter that a system has a bit more processing power in the big picture? The Wii is different, but PS3 and Xbox 360 are both quality systems. Personally, I'd get the 360 because I like the games that started out on the Dreamcast / Xbox, and although many are discontinued, the chances of new ones are best on the 360. The controllers I also like (likely being used to the Dreamcast mold again)

That said, the next video game system I buy will probably be a Nintendo DS.

Question for PS3ers: Is 40 GB enough? In fact, what is it enough for? Is it worth paying more to get 80GB?

20 GB: cheaper but less memory.

60 GB:More expencive but more memory

I have the 20 gb beacuase 60 gb has no point to it, most ps2 and ps3 games use like 1 mb, and ps1 games use even less.If you save a game 300 times on the same file, its still 1mb. I so far wasted 2mb on my ps3 and i made like 25 different files.

1000MB=1GB

I have a 60 gig and it is plenty. 1up.com had an article showing how you can (without voiding the warrenty) take out the hardrive and insert a 120gig hardrive in under 5 minutes. You can get alot more storage space for less cash.

If I find the article I'll forward the address to you.
