Guest MTL_RULES
He was drafted in the 9th round 275 overall in the 2002 NHL Draft. He is still playing in Russia, and we have yet to sign him, technically wouldn't we have lost him already?? Someone said we have until June 1, 2008 to sign Yemelin and he was drafted in 2004. Korneev was drafted in 2002, so technically speaking, have we lost him?? TY.

No we haven't lost his rights yet but that was only due to Bettman extending the time frame on signing Russian prospects last year since they didn't sign the IIHF deal. We would have lost the rights to Korneev last year since all Euro drafted unsigned prospects up to and including the 2002 draft had to be signed by last summer. Bettman extended the time frame by one year for Russians only. Who knows what will happen come this summer when a new NHL-IIHF contract gets signed, as the current one expires this summer. Korneev is having a career year and has a shot to play for the WC team in April. His team CSKS just beat Emelin's team in the first round of the playoffs. We have until '08 to sign both Emelin and Valentenko.

Emelin brings another Komisarek style D-man to our club. If we are losing Souray, this would be the best replacement, as he will be very cheap and give us the roof to sign one big UFA. tommyv
Yes, considering the scoring pace some star players in the NHL had in the RSL, Korneev seems to be breaking out, the window of opportunity is closing for him though, and i doubt he will come to NA, all depends how heavily Gainey persues him.
