Guest Buccanadien
Heck no. Baseball is for chumps! Hockey all the way! The last baseball game I went to was Sunday, October 3, 2004, at Shea Stadium in Flushing (Queens, NY), their last game ever against the Mets. Several spectators around me noted how strange it was that the Expos played their first and last games in franchise history in the same ballpark. I haven't bought a ticket to a baseball game since. To me, baseball is such a low priority to me now, even lower than the WNBA. But living in the U.S., its hype cannot be completely ignored. And yes, I do have some of their shirts and caps, which I mostly wear nowadays on the poker table (well, the tricolored cap and shirts with their 1969 wordmark anyway). I'll always remember their dynamic teams of the late 70s and early 80s!
Guest kidkoivu
Miss em? I sure do... Heck even most Blue Jays fans miss the expos... It's funny because many Raptors fans miss the Grizzlies too, but I don't think Leafs fans care about the jets/nords.
Guest ChriS_HigGinS#1
I really miss the Expos, my dad had four season tickets with his company and he'd always bring me with my brother to see games almost every home game. I was so into it I'd sometimes keep score by hand. Since I've still been a huge baseball fan, cheering for the NY mets but there will always be an empty spot in my heart for the expos. Guest Blockoman
On May 30th, 2004, my high school played the national anthems at an Expos game. I played the clash cymbals and got a high-five from Youppi when it was all over. Still have the ticket from that game.

tommyv
Last game i was At, I got free VIP tickets from my Mom's workplace, they played the Marlins and smashed them 9 - 1, I remember the 7th inning the Expos went nuts, Vidro hit a double, Caberera smacked a homer, 2 runs come in. Then Cordero went up and hit a triple, and Vlad went in right after and hit a devastating homer himself, another 2 runs. The 3000 people there were going bonkers, as was I. Guest HabsfanfromtheROCK
Why were they taken out of montreal?
tommyv
Fans stopped going ever since the strike, everything was going great before that, we had guys like DeShields, Grissom, Martinez(Denis & Pedro), Walker. The team was good, fans were going to the games, but once that strike hit, the fan base dropped, and soon after we were losing money, fans weren't going to games and we couldn't afford to keep good players anymore. Slowly all the good guys we had started to leave, and less and less fans would go watch our barely over .500 baseball club play.. Once we started averaging 3000 people per game, our owners bailed, the league took over the team until we were sold, and finally they sold us, washington took over the Expos, and so ends the final chapter in the great book of baseball for the Expos. Guest Hawksfan
In short... Politics. I think if there was an onwer willing to take a risk, and build a new stadium, Major League Baseball in montreal could thrive again.
Guest HabsfanfromtheROCK
Weird that at the bell centre you can sell it out every night, but cant get a decent outing to the baseball games..
tommyv
Montreal is way too much into Hockey, its very difficult for this city to get involved with another pro team, look at the Als, it took Montreal a long time to get into their CFL team. It is to bad we don't have more pro-sports teams in Montreal. I really would like to see the Expos come back, but that's very unlikely. I think a good area in sports, which is practically invisible, would be Lacrosse. It's a growing sport at the moment, with 5 new teams appearing in the last 2 years. Lacrosse and Hockey are practically the same thing, so why wouldn't we like it? And, IMO, who better to not fund a team then the very man who owns the Bell Centre... Gillet is already expanding his sports empire across the pond into soccer and into NASCAR...why not into a very small and possibly profitable new market, like Lacrosse. If marketed properly, Lacrosse could thrive in Montreal. In case you were wondering, Montreal did have a team in the NLL for a few seasons, but then were relocated. Interesting fact; in Montreal's first ever Lacrosse game, our team (Montreal Express) set 3 records...A record for most goals by one team (32), most goals by two teams (49), and most penalty minutes by two teams (155). Guest martinm87
I don't mean to offend anybody but... what do you see in baseball? it's so boring, especially watching it on tv. I tried a few times and just could not get into it. I really want to know what attracts people to baseball.
Guest martinm87
Also on the topic of other sports teams in Montreal there is the Montreal Impact. I've been to an impact game and their stadium was horrible, I can't wait to check out their new stadium this spring: http://www.rds.ca/impact/chroniques/237148.html (I tried to edit my last post but there was an error... )

I'm sure we've all herd the saying, "As I was walking along these two guys were fighting, and a hockey game broke out." Well take this MLB, "As I was staring at a brick wall, a baseball game started." (Bad I know, but I might as well watch paint dry or grass grow...Baseball doesn't get exciting until the playoffs) Again I'd like for the Expos to come back, not because I LOVE baseball, it's because of the city they'd play in. Montreal could form a lawn bowling team, and I'd cheer for it.
Guest ChriS_HigGinS#1
A love for the game of baseball isn't something that can be taught or acquired. You basically need to have loved baseball since you were a kid, idolized the stars and an understanding of the rules. I've played baseball since I was 6 or 7 and I've been a fan of the MLB since I was 10. I think the Expos really helped to establish my love for the game and brought it to a new level. From my experience, baseball haters usually don't understand the game.
Guest martinm87
Thats kinda what I thought, the whole growing up with baseball thing. I don't hate baseball or anything. I always liked baseball a bit when I was a little kid. I used to look for the expo's score (along with the habs score) on the front page of the gazette, and I always liked those baseball movies from the early 90's (the sandlot, the one with madonna, the one with charlie sheen. etc...) but for some reason I never got more involved in it, maybe I would have if I joined little league or something. I also noticed how it doesn't get exciting until playoffs, it was in may or june when I tried getting into it and most games looked like MLS games in the states (crap attendance). It was a different story the last time I watched a baseball game about a month ago, the yankees were playing the red sox in boston and I actually caught myself getting into it lol. I know it wasn't the playoffs but I'm guessing most red sox/yankees games are like that.

Guest kidkoivu
Yes, nothing beats MLB playoffs. If you were alive to see Expos vs Dodgers in the NLCS you'll know what I mean. People brining Canadian flags, it was quite a show. Blue monday we call it
