FirstStar
I'd say the lyrics to You Don't Know by Reel Big Fish sometimes..... Though I can exactly post them here. My favorite by them is, "she's got a girlfriend now". But for classic lyrics... Can't beat Pink Floyd's "wish you were here". One of those songs that everyone has a fond memory of. Sticking with your theme-Ska/punk, I'm partial to most of Bad Religion lyrics. Very intelligent, well thought out lyrics, with interesting metaphors. powerplay2009
What a Shame-Shinedown Two packs of cigarettes a day The strongest whiskey Kentucky can make That's a recipe to put a vagabond On his hands and knees I watched it all up close I knew him more than most I saw a side of him he never showed Full of sympathy for a world that wouldn't let him be That's the man he was Have you heard enough? What a shame, what a shame To judge a life that you can't change The choir sings, the church bells ring So won't you give this man his wings? What a shame to have to beg you to See we're not all the same, what a shame There's a hard life for every silver spoon There's a touch of gray for every shade of blue That's the way that I see life If there was nothing wrong then there'd be nothing right And for this working man They say could barely stand There's gotta be a better place to land Some kind of remedy for a world that wouldn't let him be [. Larry-Launstein-Jr
Check out the lyrics from this early Chicago classic - which just about says it all about how I feel about the government in the US failing to agree on a debt ceiling, much less anything else. Lowdown - Chicago III - Peter Cetera-Danny Seraphine Oh my Life has passed me by Country I was brought up in Fell apart and died Oh no ... Love's no longer there Cold wind blew away the sun that used to warm the air Lowdown .... aw, feelin' pretty bad Feelin' like I lost the best friends I ever had Lowdown ... I've got to find a way Got to make the people see The way I feel today Oh no ... Love's no longer there Cold wind blew away the sun that used to warm the air Lowdown .... aw, feelin' pretty bad Feelin' like I lost the best friends I ever had Lowdown ... I've got to find a way Got to make the people see The way I feel today And here's another one, from the underground Chicago classic - and only released a couple of years ago - All The Years, from Stone of Sisyphus - get this record everyone! These lyrics come courtesy of former Chicago guitarist Dawayne Bailey, who was their guitarist when SOS was recorded. All The Years Robert Lamm/Bruce Gaitsch You ask me what I think I tell you, you ignore it The reasons for it make me crazy You ask me what is right Huh, you never hear it You're never nowhere near it baby I spent my life believing It would not end this way All the years we wasted All the years we tried All the restless hours All the times we cried You ask me what I want I got no answer I know I'm only dancing faster So now we're stuck with us With you and all your stories But who's the fool and who's the liar I spent my life believing it would not end this way All the years we wasted All the years we tried All the restless hours All the times we cried All the years we gambled All the years you lied All the hopeless dreamers All the dreams that died repeat chorus If you ever get to hear this song, you'll hear some of the events from Robert Lamm's life that shaped his way of thinking - as he remains the political and social conscience of Chicago. beaubie
One of them. listening to the song now. It's so beautiful. Simon And Garfunkel: Bridge Over Troubled Water When you're weary Feeling small When tears are in your eyes I will dry them all I'm on your side When times get rough And friends just can't be found Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down When you're down and out When you're on the street When evening falls so hard I will comfort you I'll take your part When darkness comes And pain is all around Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down Sail on Silver Girl, Sail on by Your time has come to shine All your dreams are on their way See how they shine If you need a friend I'm sailing right behind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind

muskeg2
One of the best, if not THE best, scathing lyrical condemnation in rock music: You got a lotta nerve To say you are my friend When I was down You just stood there grinning You got a lotta nerve To say you got a helping hand to lend You just want to be on The side that’s winning You say I let you down You know it’s not like that If you’re so hurt Why then don’t you show it You say you lost your faith But that’s not where it’s at You had no faith to lose And you know it I know the reason That you talk behind my back I used to be among the crowd You’re in with Do you take me for such a fool To think I’d make contact With the one who tries to hide What he don’t know to begin with You see me on the street You always act surprised You say, “How are you?” “Good luck” But you don’t mean it When you know as well as me You’d rather see me paralyzed Why don’t you just come out once And scream it No, I do not feel that good When I see the heartbreaks you embrace If I was a master thief Perhaps I’d rob them And now I know you’re dissatisfied With your position and your place Don’t you understand It’s not my problem I wish that for just one time You could stand inside my shoes And just for that one moment I could be you Yes, I wish that for just one time You could stand inside my shoes You’d know what a drag it is To see you -Bob Dylan, "Positively 4th Street"

Clues
Intervention by The Arcade Fire The king's taken back the throne The useless seed is sown When they say they're cutting off the phone I'll tell 'em you're not home No place to hide You were fighting as a soldier on their side You're still a soldier in your mind Though nothing's on the line You say it's money that we need As if we're only mouths to feed I know no matter what you say There are some debts you'll never pay Working for the church While your family dies You take what they give you And you keep it inside Every spark of friendship and love Will die without a home Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone" I can taste the fear Gonna lift me up and take me out of here Don't wanna fight, don't wanna die Just wanna hear you cry Who's gonna throw the very first stone? Oh! Who's gonna reset the bone? Walking with your head in a sling Wanna hear the soldier sing Working for the Church While my family dies Your little baby sister's Gonna lose her mind Every spark of friendship and love Will die without a home Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone" I can taste your fear It's gonna lift you up and take you out of here And the bone shall never heal I care not if you kneel We can't find you now But they're gonna get their money back somehow And when you finally disappear We'll just say that you were never here Been working for the church While your life falls apart Singing hallelujah with the fear in your heart Every spark of friendship and love Will die without a home Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone" Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"
FirstStar
Been playing this song today on guitar. Has a fun and interesting strumming pattern. Sleeping Between Trucks-No Use For A Name When you wait, for someone to come through I'm sorry to inform you of the news On your own, you'll stand in line and wait To let them pick your poison and then decide your fate Standing on lines that you never want to cross Better listen to the boss I know you're lonely too I'm sleeping between trucks thinking of you Overwhelmed? What do we really know? We've never had to live out on the road In the next five years I'm going to guess The less we see the beauty, the more we see this mess In your room you see a painting on the wall But you don't see me at all I know you're lonely too I'm sleeping between trucks thinking of you The End Of The Line, by The Travelling Willburys Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze Well it's all right, if you live the life you please Well it's all right, doing the best you can Well it's all right, as long as you lend a hand You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring Waiting for someone to tell you everything Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring Maybe a diamond ring (chorus 2) Well it's all right, even if they say you're wrong Well it's all right, sometimes you gotta be strong Well it's all right, as long as you got somewhere to lay Well it's all right, everyday is judgement day Maybe somewhere down the road aways Youll think of me, and wonder where I am these days Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays Purple haze (chorus 3) Well it's all right, even when push comes to shove Well it's all right, if you got someone to love Well it's all right, everythingll work out fine Well it's all right, were going to the end of the line Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive Im just glad to be here, happy to be alive It don't matter if you're by my side Im satisfied (chorus 4) Well it's all right, even if you're old and grey Well it's all right, you still got something to say Well it's all right, remember to live and let live Well it's all right, the best you can do is forgive (chorus 5) Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze Well it's all right, if you live the life you please Well it's all right, even if the sun don't shine Well it's all right, were going to the end of the line Love the traveling Wilbury's.
