Guest habfan in leafland
http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/232174.html Not hard to understand this one... if they bring up youngsters from the AHL, they need to replace them. A move to add depth and experience most likely for the AHL level.

flames4eva
Could this be a way to clear a little cap space for L.A. so they can make a trade with the Habs?
GIJAYNE
Could this be a way to clear a little cap space for L.A. so they can make a trade with the Habs? Maybe...my first reaction to this was that we added a big body on the fourth line who can punish the D when they turn their back. I think it's an OK addition...adds more size. Guest habfan in leafland
At 900,000 a year? I don't think so... Ya, i realized after the fact that it was per season rather then total for 2 seasons.
Guest JNic
Could this be a way to clear a little cap space for L.A. so they can make a trade with the Habs? How that ? He was a UFA, so Los Angeles didn't care about this guy. And if they needed to make cap space, they could have signed him and trade him to us at the same point. It's a useless transaction trully. Unless he score 20 goals (wich will never happens in NHL) then it's useless. At 900,000$ it's an expensive price for someone going to play in the AHL probably. Otherwise he is going to take the place of a rookie. If he want to drop the gloves, he might play for us when we get injuries, otherwise
Guest Habs_101
There has to be a trade coming, the contract is one way i think. I dont think Gainey would sign him just to put him on waivers... i dont like this, but if there is a good trade coming Gainey could look like a genius. Guest Talon
Before bashing this signing you guys should check out what Kings fans have to say about him. Great guy in the locker room, teammates love him, will go through the boards for the team. Essentially he is Downey's replacement but he can actually put the puck in the net from time to time. I like this signing.

Do you mean he would replace someone on the roster after we traded him? I dont like this move at all...

I doubt there's a trade on the way because of the signing of Kosto. The habs will most likely lose Bonk, Johnson and Downey as they are all UFA's. Smolinski replaces Bonk, Kosto replaces Downey. Kindred
Great he'll take the place of a rookie... Probably on the 3rd line lol or he will take Downey's spot in the pressbox and come out every now and again to drop the gloves
Guest Talon
Great he'll take the place of a rookie... Probably on the 3rd line lol He's strictly a fourth line player. Gritty guy who is very well liked. You can't have a team full of rookies, you need some experience and some toughness. He does not take anyone's spot...all it does is offers some depth and experience.

Now the question is, did we need to replace Downey? I hope the guy fight, even if I am not a big fighter fan. Because on the fourht line, Lapierre and Begin are locks, while Streit, Latendresse and ferland could end up there. Not to name Chipp....

Guest Norutrat
Great guy in the locker room, teammates love him, Yeah, Downey's likeabilty helped us how exactly last year? And didnt he get into a fight with Begin I think? Mtl needs to put pucks in the net.. not a guy with a great personality *2 cents*

Mtl needs to put pucks in the net.. not a guy with a great personality *2 cents* Of course they do but Ferland or Milroy on the fourth line is not going to get you goals either. He is a character guy and this team lacks character. Also, it's not like he has a spot on the team already, he still has to compete for a spot at training camp, if anything it adds more competition and more choices. Guest maad
i just don't see where he fits in the line-up. when we signed lahti everybody was saying he won't be riding buses in hamilton, so he will be in the big league. now kostopoulos. does it mean guys like chip, grabovski, locke, milroy don't have a shot this season? because kostopoulus will make 900 000 a season, sure he won't be in ahl.
