Well according to canada.com, Beauregard signed an AHL contract with the Canadiens. So therefore he is property of the habs and not just the Bulldogs.

http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news...3b-4ebefe4ffe57

sorry, but she's wrong...

I don't think there's any argument that Beauregard signed an AHL deal with Hamilton, the question is do the Habs have any rights to him...

from the NHL CBA:

"Reserve List" means the list of all Players to whom a Club has rights including all Unsigned Draft Choices, all Players signed to an SPC (whether or not currently playing in the NHL), and all Players who have signed an SPC but who have subsequently been returned to Juniors. A Club may have on its Reserve List, at any one time, not more than 90 Players, which shall include the following:

( a ) Not more than 50 Players signed to an SPC and not less than 24 Players

and 3 goalkeepers under an SPC. Age 18 and age 19 Players who were returned to

Juniors, and who have not played 11 NHL Games in one season, shall be exempt from

inclusion in the 50 Player limit.

Any Club violating this provision shall be liable to loss of draft choices as

determined by the Commissioner.

( b ) Unsigned Draft Choices.

Beauregard doesn't fall into any of those categories... and just to be clear, the deal he signed with Hamiton (one year plus an option year) isn't the SPC mentioned in that CBA definition because the NHL CBA prohibits option years in the its SPC...

she got it wrong...

and to finish that thought:

10.1 Unrestricted Free Agents.

( d ) Draft Related Unrestricted Free Agents.

( i ) Any Player not eligible for claim in any future Entry Draft

pursuant to this Agreement and not on a Club's Reserve List shall

be an Unrestricted Free Agent. Further, any Player eligible for

claim in the Entry Draft, but who was unclaimed, shall be an

Unrestricted Free Agent subject to the provisions of Section 8.9 ( b ).

( ii ) Each Player referred to in subsection ( d )( i ) above shall, during the

period of his Free Agency in accordance with Section 8.9 ( b ), if

applicable, be completely free to negotiate and sign an SPC with

any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and

sign an SPC with such Player, without penalty or restriction

subject to the provisions of Article 9 of this Agreement, if

applicable, and without being subject to any Right of First Refusal,

Draft Choice Compensation or any other compensation or

equalization obligation of any kind.

this Article of the CBA does apply to Beauregard... (the other Articles mentioned only refer to eligibility to play in the NHL and level of compensation)...

I think I will credit (and believe) Wayne for the extensive research he has done on this topic thank you. :D

Yeah, gj wayne!

but like i said b 4, he had other offers on the table. He CHOSE to come here. So when the time comes, he'll most probably choose us over the others again, unless he hates carbo as much as some players :P.

Btw how old is he? 20?

Hmm weird. Either a typo, or maybe there is some way for it to be an AHL contract but give us his rights or something?

We probably gave some kind of agreement with Bow so he won't go and sign with another team, and signed him to an AHL contract so that he can play in our system without adding to our 50-contract limit. If he proves to be worth an NHL shot we'll give him a contract with the big club. That's what I think's going on.

I was glad he played last night, I wanted a chance to see the guy who scored 70 goals and went undrafted play. I thought he played alright, he jelled nice with Smolinski and he got off a couple of good shots.

His speed and skating were better than I thought they would be. Somehow I thought that was going to be a big weakness for him. What exactly is the big question mark with this guy, why did he go undrafted?

Thanks
