BRISEBOIS OFFERED CONTRACT

- It's been reported on a radio station, as well as on this site, that the Montreal Canadiens have offered Patrice Brisebois a one-year contract worth $700,000.

http://www.canoe.com/sports/nouvelles/arch...728-065400.html

Maybe Bob has a trade brewing and one of our Dmen is involved, and Brisebois is gonna replace him ?

Only real reason I can see, but in Bob I trust.

True.. and maybe just a respect thing to do so Brisebois can retire, with a cheering fanbase, so he can live peacefully here after retirement.

He would help ease some of the loss of Souray on the PP.

They could pair him with Markov or Hammer to help the defensive end of his game as well.

I'm thinking there may just be a trade though.

Brisebois might fill in for a moving player and he would help clear cap space if the new player is going to be a big hit on the cap.

Why would BG offer $700,000 for a player that was booed out of town?

Why would BG want a top 6 defenceman (definitely not top 4) given that Montreal has Fischer, O'Byrne, Emelin, Valen, McDonagh, Carle, Subbun, and Cote that are at least as good at this point in his career?

Why would Brisebois accept $700 when he knows how the fans and media will be all over him when he makes mistakes?

It's not like he will become a better defenceman with age.

First question : Brisebois wouldn't be in the same situation now. He would be number 6 D, unlike last time. The pressure on him would be lower. Else, Dandenault would be booed as hell as he his atrocious. Bouillon as well.

Second question : To replace temporarily. He is offered only a one year contract. I believe Bob G. is thinking of getting rid of at least one part of Dandouillon.

Third question : The first answer fix this question, too.

It's not like he got any worst either. He never was horrible, really. We, Habs fans, are a most strange kind of birds.

And Cote isn't nearly as good as Brisebois.

Don't forget Valentenko. He will show Cote why he's still in Hamilton this year.

Natey, why should we give him 700K just that he can retire here peacefully??? Hello, we're not a "first aid camp for poor hockey players who can't find a new home" Come on... that would be really stupid.

The only reason I can imagine is that there's a trade coming up that includes Dandenault or, as much as I hate to say, Streit. These are two mobile D-Men, analogue to Brisebois, and obviously Streit probably has more trade value at the moment...

I love your sig, but is it possible to make it smaller? The resolution is awful and it hurts my eyes...

A trade is the only logical thing I can think of myself. If they just wanted to fill a gap, Streit is more than capable on D in a Brisebois type capacity, is better defensively(imho) and is younger.....and without baggage. We also have some kids who Bob himself could be ready. Moving Streit to D would also ease the glut of 3rd and 4rth liners we have. One of our Dmen must be leaving.

Yep, you nailed it, it's the only way I can imagine it too...

I mean it's not we have not enough D's.... it MUST be a trade.... maaan, but now I'm too exited to see what it is and can't wait to hear more!

Personally, I never thought Patrice was as bad as many made him out to be... but he was in a bad situation at the time. Since then I think he hasn't been at his best (due I believe to physical limitations caused by injury). He was never a number one or two to be sure, but could have been a better player for the Habs as a number 3 or 4 at the time. Now is another story that is hard to judge.

I too believe there could be a trade in the works thast does invovle a Habs defenseman (or two) and like Niinima last year Patrice could simply be an insurance policy or as the number six (right-hand shot) d-man.

I can't see the Habs moving Streit because of his versatility to the team... though some may not agree I think Bouillon could be the one involved in a trade making Gorges the seventh d-man on the roster (if he stays up with the big club that is). I think Bouillon offers a greater trade value than Dandeanult because of his physical play... he also maks a little more I believe which free up a little more cap space.

Who could be coming on board? A UFA - Vannanen, Sutton, D.Markov? A trade? Maybe nobody

I would love for Patrice to come back to Montreal, especially if its only 1 year and at 700k... i think he was relied on a lil too much when he was orginally here. He could probably be used nicly on the PP aswell, to take away the pain of losing Souray. I think Brisebois wasn't given as much credit as he deserved

B-I-N-G-O.

Perspective/cost/value are always a HUGE role in how a player is perceived for a team. Look at rivet - character guy, hard worker etc. If he was making $700k we'd be crying when he was traded...but at $2m+ he was too expensive to be a #6d and not talented enough to be a #2 or 3.

Breeser is the same thing - bring him back with #6dman pay & whats the harm?

I like this move (if its indeed true - none of the "big" sites are reporting it yet, are they?) but im curious what it means. Either:

1) Bob/Carbo just LOVE defensive depth. I mean we had how many dmen on our roster last year?

2) Briesbois is being signed so that we can then move either/both dandy/boullion (both much higher paid) to free some cap space

He'd also give us another weapon on the PP which wouldnt be a bad thing.

Interesting development to be sure.

It is on RDS.com now, but doesn't say that he signed. Just that Bob put the offer out.

Well said JEDI... I think BG also liked him and did his best to stand up for him when things weren't going so great... It adds experience to be sure, a very decent point shot and possible PP addition if needed and could be a prelude to seeing Price play with a more mobile and expperienced defense in front of him... that is of course if the Habs are not done and are looking at bringing in another experienced d-man to replace the Dandouillon pairing one way or another.

The cap space could be the thing that makes a trade a good possibility.

Okay here I am. Where are my 700k? ;)

Signing Brisebois to a 1 year 700k contract and then trade away either Bouillon or Dandenault or maybe both would free up cap space and provide from the blue line.

I really hope we re-sign Patrice as well. However, I will not be surprised if he rejects the offer. When je went to Colorado I remember him saying to a reporter that he wants to play as far away from MTL as possible. Personally, I hope he wants to play for us. I reallty liked him when he played here and do not understand why he got so many boooooos. He had a great year here just before leaving. I hope Patrice comes back.

The Habs fans have really got to learn to stop booing our own players. I really think this is why a lot of UFA's choose to play elsewhere.

Time heals all wounds. Speaking from experience, as someone who left a place on bad terms, sometimes there's nothing that drives you more than going back to that old place again & showing what you can do now.

It may be a win win for both - montreal could add some cheaper depth (and move our more expensive guys) and brisebois gets a chance to prove his hometown crowd that he wasnt as abismal as our memories sometimes remember him as. ;)

2 things..

A: to get hossa we would have to give up price for starters, which i wouldn't do

B: Brisebois would be an awful addition. He was lousy before, and now he's all done to make it worse.Do we have short memories? Personally I would be pissed losing my favorite d-man (souray) and then picking up my worst (breeze-by)

Funny thing is Breezer is better defensively than Souray.. lol
