Guest vegasrick
Hes a great leader / Captiain. Thats why i hope a trade is comming, he deserves better, and can only help improve the team Even better still would be his playing a very important part in bringing the Stanley Cup back to Montreal and ending the drought. Winning a Cup somewhere is a great accomplishment, but winning a Cup for the Montreal Canadiens is like nothing else in the world. Especially now, that the face of the team has changed. The Habs are no longer the feared competitor they were for so many of the glory years. Their reputation has changed quite a bit. It would be nice to see some of the negatives put out to pasture, and there would be nothing greater than to see Saku raising the Cup with the CH on his chest. He's already overcome some of the greatest obstacles that could ever be placed in a person's path.....when he raises the Cup, it won't just be Canadiens' fans who cheer, it will be the entire hockey world. I live for moments like that......
Guest overlords
u preach it weeping.. ive always said that same thing, get saku sum TRUE talent (again not a knock to higgy or ryder)and lets see his stats then.. imagine if he would have played with teemu for les habs? I think that next year (possibly even at the end of this year) higgy might be ELITE talent. Do you see this guy with the puck? It reminds me of the movie "the rocket" when Dick Irvin says "No one can take the puck away from him". Ryder on the other hand..... Just the image of koivu with kovy and kovalchuk is amazing! Hope Gainey finally pulls a trigger.

Hope Gainey finally pulls a trigger. He needs to improve the accuracy of his shot, as well as the softness of his hands. He gets a lot of chances in close because of his shiftiness and he usually tries to snap the puck past the goaltender when a simple move to the backhand and a flip shot would work better. His chances are there, he can be elite if he learns how "not to miss".

Guest SakuFan
Hey, does anyone know where I can get some of the light blue grip tape that Saku uses? Thanks for your help! Elliott
Guest voicemajor2000
I am a Kovalev fan as well, and Alex has been playing very well, but what can you say about Saku! His is our undisputed leader, and undisputed MVP. He has slipped under the radar a lot in the Canadian Markets because Sundin gets hyped so much. I think Saku is the most dedicted Captain in Hockey. He works night in and night out, and puts up with all the ***** from the media because he WANTS to be here and WANTS to win here. Thanks you Saku, and Keep up the good work. I want Koivu to finish his careerw ith us, and to be able to see his jersy raised next to our 25th cup banner that he helped bring. Go Saku! Guest silversnake
i moved out of montreal right after we won the cup in 93 and moved to texas where i pretty much forgot about hockey unfortunately and never really knew about Koivu until 3 years ago when i moved back to montreal . . . Just an amazing character and person and captain and the list goes on. Enough can't be said about this guy , the only time i noticed him not playing his best hockey (so like 80% instead of 110%) was right after the Rivet trade and even that didn't' last long. He always gives his all and that's why i like him paired up with higgins so much because he is the same. Always gives his heart and soul and really hope he's able to retire with us and has his number retired
Guest smoke
I loved his goal last night! Too bad more of those goals didnt happen, when we needed 1 goal here and there, Other then that feels good to see someone knock the puck into there own net when it isnt ours )
Guest Jesus Price
another 2 points for captain wonderful .. saku is quietly going about his business this year, flying under the radar ith 10 pts thru 9 games.. very nice to see us not having to 100% rely on saku so far
fourtrax
Not one of his best games. He picked up a pair of points, but the goal was a fluke and Saku was not his usual efficient self last night. His defensive-zone play was a bit spotty as well. No worries, though. I'm sure we'll see him rebound tonight against the Pens!

Guest habs_fan1160
I think he's had a great start to the season. I believe he has 10 points in 9 games - very impressive. Hope to see him net some against Pitts tonight.

roy_133
Could be he misses his buddies in SJ ( # 52 ) and Edmonton ( # 44 ) Doesn't look like he's coasting or anything, to me it seems like he doesn't have his legs, his skating isn't Saku Koivu quality yet. He's falling a lot, little things like that. He's not playing his best and he's still producing at a very high level, that bodes well for when he does find his legs. Guest hatethoseleafs
Could be he misses his buddies in SJ ( # 52 ) and Edmonton ( # 44 ) He looked great until he got sick last week. Its possible he's not at 100% yet. IMO it will take more then a cold and a fever to keep the Captain out of the lineup though.
Guest stevesaku
was happy to see koivus reaction after our first goal. in a long list of habs greats, koivu is number 18 if im not mistaken, on the all time habs list in pts. 1 pt behind carbonneau and a few behind gainey. he can also catch guy lapointe. I dont see him falling... he gets alot of heat from the opponents and he usually results on getting back on his feet WITH the puck after he "falls" Koivu was a work horse last night. He gave all he had I tell you what !

I went to go check on that on canadiens.com about his rank in points. According to the site he only has 460 points which is odd because I remember him reaching 500 last season. So I checked up his point total and it's actually 545 which is currently two points behind Carbonneau. So in the next game or two he can pass him for 17th overall. http://canadiens.nhl.com/team/app?service=...s_seasonalltime

Guest habs_fan1160
Since he's become captain of the Habs, he's one player I've never worried about. He always comes out with energy and he's always solid for us, tons of heart and helps us win games. I noticed on a couple of shifts last night though that Saku was the only guy out there playing his butt off and the only one up on the rush. I don't think any of the fans expect him to do it all by himself, so the team shouldn't either. His line could produce a lot more if his linemates wouldn't give up on the play. I wonder why it doesn't "rub off" on the others? Why is it acceptable to start "slacking off" for some? Saku has proven to be loyal, and I know he would love to win the Cup here. I believe that, through this loyalty, Saku is actually keeping the "Glory" of the Habs alive, even if only by a spark at times. That's one of the things that would make any franchise special.....loyalty to the team, not loyalty to dollars. Maybe someday all the rest of the team will take on that attitude and start playing like champions for Saku and for the Canadiens. It would only be right for Montreal to win the Stanley Cup with Saku Koivu as captain.
