He has got to stop that ridiculous trip through the right faceoff circle on his way to the net. Everyone and his brother has figured out that move. Even Maguire commented that you cut off half your shooting lanes by coming in at such an angle.

He needs a few moves but cutting through the faceoff circle (ie coming from the side) does work. It forces the goalie to make a lateral movement. Kovalchuk scored on the same type (mind you he didnt shoot into his pads like Pleks). And if you all remember one of Jussi Jokinen's two moves last year came through the right face off circle.

It was a poor effort on the shot but the coming through the circle has nothing to do with it. Pleks needs another move is the problem so he can switch it up. Most good shootout players have a few moves they go back to.

And since when do we listen to what Pierre says????? One bad game and we all start listening to him......a sad day it is.

There are a few reasons why I don't like the move:

  • It's the only move he does now and other teams have figured it out, as I mentioned in my previous post.
  • The angle he takes on the move is way too sharp and cuts off too many shooting lanes. Kovalchuk didn't take nearly such a sharp angle.
  • He can't seem to finish the play with a strong shot. The last couple of times I've seen him do it, he either misses the net or loses control of the puck at the last moment.

I would argue that going through the faceoff circle as slow as he did had everything to do with it. In the shootout speed kills and if you want to come from an angle you should do so at a smaller angle so you can come in faster and force the goalie to backup more then he wants to so you have more net to shoot at.

Well, i don't think they made the comments just because Maguire did.

It's a lousy shootout move, you don't force the goalie to skate backwards, and he can just move lateral with the shooter, leaving even a deke move almost impossible.

I know I was cringing as soon as I saw him swing out wide.

Haha! I was cringing too. It bothers me seeing guys go in on the shootout with ridiculous ideas. But then again, the shootout just bothers me in general. One big breakaway of anxiety.

When you come in on an angle like he did, the one move you should do, is the Forsberg move. But if i'm Tomas Plekanec and I watch the replays of 3 or 4 breakaways where I went to the back and and upstairs, i'd be thinking about that everytime.

That would be one of the examples, and he has scored goal the same way on several different occasions, I'd like to see him go to the backhand on his shootouts much more often in the same manner.

Na, i was soooo happy to see him try to pull his move off.

Yes the goalie did expect it, which is probably why he didnt end up trying it, the goalie was way out of the net waiting for him

I liked the move, Yes its gotten old, and if you ever know its comming its probabl easy to stop..

But maybe if he can find a different way to close it

THis is his money goal the one he probably was going to try the other night

http://youtube.com/watch?v=JWE2VigYkw0

but when the goalie knows its comming kinda easy, just needs to have like 3 different ways to close that move would be sweet

ha! i was just wondering if he actually scored when he goes wide like that , but couldn't remember. It's a nice move but i'd rather much him go straight on , going so far really cuts your angle

Loving so far what Plekanec has done :)

Didnt he look soo calm when he scored that, he took his time, made his play and it went in,

I have to admit, that is something, that most players on our team arent showing @ the moment, Only Koivu, Kovalev, Markov + Pleks, i see that in,

Nice goal. Also very nice to see Kostitsyn playing part / most of the game on the 2nd line. Montreal needs Pleks, Kostitsyn and Kovalev to put up similar scoring as the #1 line for the team to do well. I thought that Pleks looked a bit off over the past 2 or 3 games. Really glad that he scored such a nice goal against Miller.

WOw eh, this guy is soo calm, hes like the opposite of higgins when it comes to that,

Higgins puts his head down and shoots as fast as he can, pleks, takes his time, does a few moves, and every single one of his goals, or in tonight case assists, are ones that look amazing, but cross the line by like 2 feet

Its really something to watch,

He's really sparking with Kostitsyn on the wing; reminiscent of last year. Not sure how they developed this chemistry, but if it means Plekanec can play as amazing as he has been, then I really don't care.

Though... Plekanec always looks exhausted after he scores. Maybe he should consider loosening the turtleneck? :)

Pleks is probably the most underrated forward in the NHL. Good D, fast, great skill set, killer instinct and a match for Kovalev (his most amazing attribute). Great player and yet we still have people on this board saying that Mike Ribiero is better! Unreal.
