Guest Renko
Wasnt as dangerous on Saturday as he usually is. Still he made a few good plays and wasnt horrible defensively. He has to improve in the faceoff circle though. Him and Kovalev dominate in the offensive zone and if they could have a higher percentage of puck possession of the draw it would be very beneficial. Might help a bit with their defensive problems too.
fourtrax
Looked tentative and sluggish for most of the game and I have no idea why Carbo put him in the shootout. He's in a mini-slump right now and needs to battle through it.
ColRouleBleu
his last goal against buffalo indicated that he could probably do well in the SO, if he'd scored tonight, it would have helped counter the mini slump as you call it. but yeah, he was not the plekanec i'm used to and like to see on the ice tonight, actually, he was rather invisibe

He's in a mini-slump right now and needs to battle through it. Putting slumping players in the SO seems to be the modus operandi for many coaches. I'm not saying that I agree with it, but that's something I've noticed over the course of the last few seasons. Sometimes one goal is all it takes to restore a guy's confidence and get him going again, especially with guys who have gamebreaking skill. Paul Maurice, I assume, employed a similar philosophy in putting Antropov, Tucker and Blake out there. It backfired huge, but I think his reasoning would be similar to Carbonneau's use of Plekanec. ColRouleBleu
Don't let your Pleky down, ColRoulé. He needs you more than ever. no worry there, not letting him down for one second, if i'm not wearing my pleky jersey during a game (because i may be wearing my markov one lol) then i make sure my daughter puts it on... most of my silly pleki ramblings are on the french side of the forum though to keep his thread alive. on the english side i'm not needed as much as he gets his fair share of comments i hope he does well for the games to come, specially next tuesday when i'll refill my camera card at the bell with new bleu-blanc-rouge art

ColRouleBleu
then again, maybe just a mini slump, it happens to all of them.... his faceoff results are starting to concern me a bit though, for the rest of his play i'm not worried at all

Guest habs_fan1160
Surprising year from Pleks. Second on the team with 22 points, 9 goals and 13 assists. Who would have thought Pleks would be leading Koivu and Higgins?
ColRouleBleu
True.... and he's not playing that well either, not to the full extent of what he can do anyway... I can only imagine what his results would be if he did! I miss last season's Pleky, with both arms in the air like an antenna channelling the energy of the crowd, a huge grin on his face when he scored. Perhaps it's only a second half of the season thing? ColRouleBleu
I guess throwing himself in the board/glass is the new 2007-2008 move
fourtrax
He looked so happy to have scored that goal. It was encouraging, despite the loss. Now he needs to start skating harder in the offensive zone and driving to the net or at least behind the net. He's become a perimeter player in his slump and it's hurting the line's ability to be threatening at the net.

I totally agree. Look at who he's playing with. How many times have we seen a Kovalev pass go untouched through the goalmouth because nobody is there? There is no reason for Plekanec to be a perimeter player. Kovalev is a perimter player and between him and Kostitsyn, both stronger on the wall than Pleks, the boards is also covered. If he wants to jump into the cycle game, that's one thing, but he needs to go to the net. He does well when he's close to the net and has the skill to create a lane for himself in a small space. You can't have three guys floating along the boards without anyone in front of the net.

Agreed, great post. And of course, he scored his goal last night from close range, near the net. Board work is not Plekanec's strength. He is much more dangerous driving to the net with speed than he is trying to fight off bigger players along the wall. You can't have three guys floating along the boards without anyone in front of the net. It's the main reason why Higgins-Koivu-Ryder never works as a line combo -- nobody willing to pay the price in front of the net.
Guest AlexK
Pleks and Higgens are speed demons. These two fly up the ice and very rarely lose a one on one battle in the offensive zone.

I know he hasn't been AS good as he was at the beginning of the season. But to say 'an absense' might be a touch harsh in my opnion. His line has been the only one producing during the habs skid. Sure he is on and off and doesn't seem to be that hustler we are used to...but in December... 6 games played total 0f 16 goals for the boys Kovy has 5 pts in that A. kost has 4 pts Pleks has 7 pts I know there isn't highlight reel there...but it shows he hasn't been absent....total for that line 16 pts on 16 goals tell you something about the rest of the team though All in all i do agree he was hustling more last night...could of easily had 4 assists....the breakaway pass to Higgy (POST) and the cross crease to Kosti early.... Guest AlexK
I actually thought there was about a 4 or 5 game stretch where he and Kostitsyn didn't do very much, but after that they started to really pick their games up. He started to play well after that overtime where he drew 2 penalties in a row, but they didn't matter because the overtime was over. He showed some serious speed an hustle in that play and I think it carried over to the next few games.

I do not know how you can say that Weeping because Tomas has had at least a point in all five December games (two in the Nashville game) before last night with the exception of the Detroit game.
