I never wish injury on a player, but at the very least, good will come out of it in that it will force Carbonneau to think about playing a legit first-line RW with Koivu. Smolinski has no business on the first line.

Come on, he's going to put Dandenault back up there, isn't he?

Smolinski is hardly the biggest problem on this team. Obviously he won't be getting resigned for next season, but when he's out of the lineup our team is no better. He may be having a rough season, but there are more drastic things that need to done to help our club.

Really not a loss at all that Smolinski is injured. Chipchura is already in the process of taking Smoke's job.

I bet BG wish he knew what Chipchura could do before he signed smolinski. $2 mil oh well

In fairness to Gainey, I don't think he could have known how mature Chipchura is, nor could he predict that Smolinski would be this unimpressive as a checking centre.

Yes I realise that, and I agree. But I bet he still wishes he knew.

Bob Gainey is not Jojo Savard...;)

At this rate, he's the one who should waive off his NTC and ask for a trade before it's too late. He keeps playing like that and getting benched, it won't look good at the end of the year on his stats and then it's off to the AHL or retirement.

He's out for like 6 weeks with a knee injury.

I don't think he hurts us out there really - but we also aren't really missing him at all. He's basically become our fourth center, and Lapierre can do a similar job for 1/3 the pricetag.

With hindsight - not the greatest signing. But it's only a one year deal - so not too bad either.

That said, I'll probably be changing my tune at some point when we start having injuries up the middle. I'm glad to have him, if for no other reason, depth. Also, let's treat him well - mistreatment of another UFA is not going to help us attract free agents in the future.

Sometime you need players like Smoke in your team. He's a team player, will never ***** about his ice time and will do whatever it takes for the best of the teams he plays with. More players should be like him !

You will see his value down the stretch and in the play offs if he can be healthy

How can we be sure he would be useful in the playoffs if he can't even help us right now during the season to pull us through?:huh:

Yeah, and it's not like he's sulking right now and not using his secret reservoir of skillz like Kovy.

Not the best thing to be hoping, but I really hope that Smoke isn't back for awhile. I have nothing against him, but he's slightly an older player, who hasn't done much in his time here. I much rather see Lappy out there and not just because I'm a Lappy fan, but he's got a ton more energy than Smoke, not to mention he's much younger.

I just don't see where Smoke belongs on the team, I wasn't sure why we got him in the summer, other than for his expierence, but his time has came and gone.

He's a very classy guy, great guy, decent player, but he just doesn't seem to fit here.

Insurance policy, in case the rookies weren't ready at the beginning of the season. BG couldn't take a wild guess here.

I think if Smolinski was playing better and did not get injured that Lapierre would not have been called up from Hamilton.

I think you're 100 per cent right, which is why I'm dreading his return.
