I can't understand how Lapierre can go from being a big contributor last year to being back in Hamilton with no signs of getting it together for a return engagement with the big club. It looks like he has regressed in his development, much like Lats, yet Gui's still taking up a roster spot without showing much in the offensive department. At least Lapierre can play a defensive role and drive the opposition crazy.

He didn't contribute that much last year

I think people got overly exited about his 4 pts or 4 goals in his first 5 games and thought we had a star in the making.

In the end , he ended up with 12pts

fans in Montreal overly excited about a player? No way!

On that note I would love nothing more than Lappy to come back and maybe Lats going down. DO IT BOB!!!

To make the NHL, he has to keep knocking at the door. It seems at the beginning of the season he was pounding on it, but then no one answered and he got discouraged and went home. Someone is always home if you pound loud enough, Lapierre has to keep working hard.

Though I like Lapierre and am one of the few who thinks he plays with an edge and has an offensive upside I have a gut feeling he will be part of a package in a trade deal some where down the road.

I disagree. Lapierre will be with us for a longtime. BG being the great visionary that he is, recognized Chips is going to be our shut down Centre man of many years to come and needed him to play while having the security of Smoke this year. Gainey also knows the character of this kid and knew he would be able to handle being sent to Hamilton a lot better than a grabs or kosty. Max's is going to be riding shotgun with Begin on our fourth line in the not so distant future.

He would be a great 4th liner,

If we are really planning on signing a big named player, we will need more rookies on the team earning very little to play for our team, and lapierre is a rookie, who could fill the shoes nicely

I think they made a big mistake keeping Grabovsky and Chipchura over Lapierre. Both Grabs and Chip have shown us very little this season, while Lapierre played awesome in the preseason.

As of late, Grabs and Chip have been playing at the AHL level and that's where they should be.

Chipchura has been great, are you kidding. As for pre-season Lapierre was brutal, and even he admits that he didnt have what it took to get the job. Both Grabs and Chipper out-played him in the pre-season and theres a reason Lapierre is in the ahl

Yeah, I'm confused by these comments. I thought the consensus was the inverse of what you're saying. In my own personal opinion I think Chipchura has been outstanding so far this season, and Grabovski is a completely different style of player. It wasn't Grabovski who stole Lapierre's spot, it was a combination of Lapierre playing poorly (self-admition), and Chipchura playing well in pre-season. Chipchura has shown he deserves to be here, I think. Lapierre will, in time, also show he deserves to be here or be passed over by some of the other younger talent we have (D'Agostini, for one).

Yeah. Im hearing or seeing Chippy all over the place during the games. Grabs, not as much. Lats is the one I question not cooling his heals in Hamilton, instead of Maxim.

So we're saying that Chip is better than Grabs?

Grabs has played in 8 games with 1 goal and 1 assist for two points, and he's a -2.

Chip has played in 11 games with 2 goals and 1 assist for three points and he's a +4.

Statistically they're very similar.

Lapierre has played 11 games in the AHL this season with 6 goals, 4 assits, for 10 pts and a +2.

So Lapierre is obviouly playing a strong season in the AHL. I realize they're two totally different leagues and the NHL is way more challenging than the NHL and chances of Lappy having 10 pts with us this season are slim, but at least he's showing some effort.

I just don't see how we can rag on Grabs for not playing well, and go the total opposite with Chip, since their stats are pretty close.

Chipchura is a defensive specialist who has added a little timely offense. When you are +4 as a rookie, taking late game faceoffs, drawing Sidney Crosby as your defensive assignment in OT there is something special about you. Chipchura was better than Lapierre last year too, but credit the organization for giving Chipchura a full year's apprenticeship. Grabvoski is arguable, given that he was brought into to add some scoring and speed, and has produced little.. Lapierre could conceivably produce at his level, but the difference I think is that Grabvoski draws penalties, whereas Lapierre takes them. Also Lapierre is right handed and there are no spots available at centre or right wing, so he has to wait. In reality the guy who stole Lapierre's job out of camp was Matthieu Dandenault, and I don't see Lapierre winning it back anytime soon.

Good point on Dandenault. I never thought of that. Dandenault's the man right now! Looking sharp, skating fast, making hits! Lapierre will get his chance this season, but he needs to step up his game to be a full-time NHLer.

I guess my main issue of the whole Lapierre in the AHL thing comes from the fact that we have a hand full of guys on the team right now who aren't playing good enough at the NHL level.

It's just hard to comprehend why Lapierre is being left in Hamilton, while these others (won't say any names) are able to play with the big guys.

So your going to compare Chipper's stats to Grabs? Chipchura a defensive specialist, and Grabs an offensive specialist. Yup, pretty much makes no sense. It makes almost as little sense as comparing AHL stats to NHL stats

I've heard a lot of positive remarks about his play in the AHL and I was wondering what kind of offensive potential he has. Could he ever score 20 goals in the NHL? Last year he had 6G and 6A in a little more than half a season. As a winger instead of a center (a better position for his type imo) what kind of points could he put up?

I believe he has the potential to net 15-20 goals a seson, it also depends what role Carbs would use him for.

I suppose it could happen, but I'm not counting on it.

Anything's possible, but personally I don't see him as anything more than a fourth liner, lucky to get 20 or 30 points. I'd be perfectly happy if he became more than that though.
