I suppose it could happen, but I'm not counting on it.

Anything's possible, but personally I don't see him as anything more than a fourth liner, lucky to get 20 or 30 points. I'd be perfectly happy if he became more than that though.

In in Maxim's hands and what I believe and hope is that like Tomas Plekanec he proves people wrong. :)

I hope Maxim calms his game down, and becomes a competent 3rd line checker! I like the idea of Chipchura at center, and Lapierre at the wing as part of our future. Worst case scenario I hope Lapierre makes it as a great 4th line energy guy. I hope he can successfully ditch the dirty part of his game. I love his edge, but he needs to A] pick his spots better, and B] calm down a little. Great passion though!

Right now I would take Lapierre over Latendresse or Smolinski. Lapierre could bring both much need energy and a physical presence. Regarding his scoring potential, I believe he is quite capable of reaching 20 goals over a full season. He has show a decent scoring touch. More significantly, he plays with heart...a quality that this team needs more of.

For sure you will never...ever...ever...see Smoke gets sent down to Hamilton. That just spells disaster. I know that's not what you're implying, but some random person might.

I would love to see Maxim come back, and have him tear it up on the 3rd or 4th line with Dandenault, Begin, Kostopoulos, and Chipchura. Our lower lines would probably be the biggest pain in the 'hass to play against in the whole league.

Although Maxim is not a scorer...well he is in Hamilton kinda...he's used in all situations(from what I've herd Don Lever say), his extra enthusiam and adrenaline could really give this team an extra-double-double-frapachino boost. Along with;

Dandenault, who likes pressuring players in their own zone(especially in the corners).

Begin, who annoys the hell out of everyone.

Chipchura, who can set up a nice play entering the zone.

and

Kostopoulos, who provides a solid defensive game with added puck manuvering.

I think Maxim is the right-fresh guy to help us get through this season a little smoother, and hopefully Smolinski can see that he is being challenged for the centering role, since Maxim will likely play on the wing if he returns(but maybe not for long).

Alright, g'nite everyone.

6 of our 12 forwards have less than 3 years experience. That's already a lot so I really don't want another rookie for a veteran at this point.

Statistically they're very similar.

Lapierre has played 11 games in the AHL this season with 6 goals, 4 assits, for 10 pts and a +2.

So Lapierre is obviouly playing a strong season in the AHL. I realize they're two totally different leagues and the NHL is way more challenging than the NHL and chances of Lappy having 10 pts with us this season are slim, but at least he's showing some effort.

I think Lapierre's point total might be a bit misleading. He had 8 points when the season was only three games old and has obviously cooled off significantly since the torrid start. The fact remains that he is still almost a PPG player, but his numbers indicate a level of consistent production that isn't really there.

I don't think there is any question that Lapierre would provide some serious spark, which is something this sagging group might be able to ride and build on. Intensity can be contagious and you only need one guy to get it rolling. That guy can easily be Lapierre.

However, I also share JL's concern with replacing another veteran (i.e. smoke) with another rookie. The biggest reason we cough up late leads is usually because we make a mistake that our opponents capitalize on and the momentum is pulled right out from under our feet and the game is often tied before we can catch our balance. Putting another rookie in do or die situations isn't something I'm totally comfortable doing.

The problem is the veterans that are supposed to be your go to guys at the end of the game or for that matter the whole game are not doing it.

So what's the difference?

I would sooner see a young kid playing learning the game at the NHL level then some 30 old + veterans who are not contributing anyway.

Hmmm.... 2 call ups? That means not enough space for all the guys in the pressbox..... Trade coming?!?

So if you don't have any more veterance to put in those situations, you have to throw young kids into the fire when they might not be ready for it. The mistakes would only be compounded and then the new guys would be assailed with criticism they probably don't deserve. How does that improve anything? The guys Carbo puts out there at the end of the game are not only out there because they have proven that they can execute, but also because, as veterans, they can deal with the pressure as well as success and failures which is huge in a city like this.

So which 30 something player is not contributing on the team? I can only think of Smolinski. And yes I would prefer Lapierre over Smolinski right now.

This is Montreal, the fans won't tolerate losing to accomodate a rookie's learning curve!

The odd mistake is one thing, but losing games is completely different.

I'm glad to see Lapierre back in a Habs uniform. I hope he plays with more control this season. I also hope he can play better than Smolinski has been playing, thus far. A future checking line of Chipchura and Lapierre would be a-okay with me.

lap chip and lat would be a nice checking line. btw i really don't mind replacing a veteran with a rookie. Just look at how many times have we seen a kovalev, a begin, a koivu or a smolinski take a penalty at the end of a 3 third period?

I think calling lapierre up (another center) is a warning to smolinski. If lapierre, someone who didn't really show up at all at the training camp, outplays him now, we know his playing days are done.
