Actually, it's perfectly sane. It's the rest of the world that's insane. I wish every province and state made it a point to tax the rich heavily. They're exactly the people who SHOULD be taxed. And if it were the same everywhere, then it would cease to be a factor in where players signed, which would be good for us. :)

That being said, the higher taxes are a reality here, and players are never going to stop being greedy, even though quibbling over millions seems crazy to me when you are already a millionaire (what exactly does that extra money allow you to do that you couldn't do before? buy a fifth luxury car? a third country-house? plastic surgery for your trophy wife AND your mistress? :P ). If given the option, obviously they'll elect to play where they retain more of their own money.

ouuu, smart AND left wing, man if i were a girl..... :P

just wanted to say i agree, and would have said the same thing if you hadn't.

I guess I am also thinking of a team like Detroit that is busy setting the gold standard for how to put together Cup winners. :) And their top-four is rock solid with no rookies or unproven players: Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, and Stuart. If we are serious about Cup contention this coming season, we need to stop treating that 4th D spot like a rookie training ground and start trying to fill it with the best available player.

Kronvall is actually pretty 'green' in the grand scheme of things, but his style of play and sparkling success make him seem like a season veteran.

Maybe Kronvall seems green compared to guys like Lidstrom and Rafalski, grizzled veterans with multiple Cup rings, but he's 27, he was a first-round Wings pick in 2000, and this is his fourth season with the Wings. He's got lots of experience. Compare him to 20-year-old O'Byrne and there's no question he's got a significant edge in experience. Someone like that playing with Hammer would augment our second pairing tremendously. Breezer was great dollar value, and had tons of experience, but had obviously lost a few steps and was on the downside of his career. O'Byrne has the physical tools but is far too raw to match up well against top teams deep in a playoff run.

Congratulations, You must be very good in your hockey pool

Most Canadiens fans didnt have any idea as to who he was when we signed him, you can go through the board and read yourself, there were hundreds of posts. Should be easy enough to look up

You don't give Habs fans enough credit. We are aware of players who play on teams other than Montreal.

Go back to the thread, read all the posts.

Some of the exactly words,

WHO? HOW MUCH? WHO IS HE?

Sure there are some who knew of him,but not most, congratulations on being one of the few who knew everything about him, and was probably telling everyone we should pick him up in the ufa market

No, I was not saying we should pick him up in the UFA market. I'm just saying that, unlike you, I was aware of his existence.

Consider me th average Habs fan, i probably know more then most,

but seeing as im the average Habs fan, i didnt know much if anything about him.

He ended up being a GREAT choice by the organization, im simply saying that we will most likely pick someone up like that, Not a hossa or a Redden, names that are being tossed around every 2 seconds, But a hammerlick name, that after we sign them,

Everyone looks at each other and says WHO

Here's his career stats. Can't you remember him from the Islanders?

No i wasnt a fan of the islanders, i tend to focus on our players, rather then the other team

A lot of fans focus on players from around the league. They like to know who the Canadiens will be going up against. It's a good thing Gainey does not focus only on the Habs, or we never would have gotten Hamrlik.

Bob Cole focuses only on the leafs, and look at all the criticism he gets because he does not know the players on the other team. You should expand your horizons.

Ahmen

If only that were true!

Obviously as a gm he knows alot more about each and every player in the league then any of us know.

As a canadiens fan, i was unaware of how good Hammer was, as i never followed his play, I might have seen him play 1-2x a year, but thats all..

Now i see him on a nightly basis. He is that good.

For my other point he wasnt a name that the media was talking about every 2 mins, like they are doing now with hossa/redden/cambell . I wouldnt be surprised if Gainey, was to find another GREAT player that most of us Canadiens Fans dont know much about. excluding you of course.

it will be mr smith signing with us. Hopefully he turns out as good as Hammer turned out last year is all

Actually in the Build your Habs thread I traded for Hammer quite a few months before Bob signed him !!!

I think Bob reads my posts for ideas !!! ;)

I think most fans have a general knowledge of the good players around the league.
