#46 Andrei Kostitsyn 2007-08

Another disapointing first rounder, just like Perezhogin, Andrei has great technical abilities but seems to be lacking hockey sense or offensive awareness. His AHL numbers weren't very impressive so why should we expect better numbers at the NHL level?

His lack of effort is also not helping his cause.

We should give up on him!!! Trade him for a 7th round pick while he still has value.

I strongly disagree with your assessment of Kostitsyn. It is not a lack of effort or skills, it's a lack of confidence. How long did it take Joe Thornton to become the player that he is? What about Vincent Lecavalier? Jason Spezza? Yet, they are all playing in their home country! I'm not comparing the players here, but the time it takes to develop into a good player in this league.

Kostitsyn is not putting the points that we're expecting... yet. But I'm far from giving up on this guy. Look at what people were saying about Plekanec, who has half the skills that Kostitsyn has, and look at him now! Give it time people, don't jump the gun with the guy. He's showing some great things and he's as close to a potential superstar as we have in our system.

Didnt we learn from Perezhogin, why arent our rookies with REAL talent playing with our top man Koivu, am I the only one who sees this, I FEEL LIKE IM TAKING CRAZY PILLS!!!!

I wouldn't want to pass for an expert on the subject, but maybe it's because only two players at a time can play with Koivu? We want Higgins, Ryder, Kostitsyn, Kovalev to play with Koivu... and a line is made-up of 3 players.

Nobody gave up on Perezhogin, he left for Russia.

How so? It's a fairly objective assesment of Kostitsyn.

i think it's safe to say that management lost confidence in him and therefore he signed in russia.

how so? read jl's post. that's basically how i feel (differing opinions can be equally objective). though perhaps not a thorton or a lacavalier, i think he has real talent and i have yet to see a lack of effort by him. the very fact that he tries to backcheck - which is clearly not his game - tells me he's trying to adjust his system to carbo's which probably doesn't suit him at all. i'm willing to give the kid a chance provided management gives him a fair amount of ice time to develop with. if i had to choose between lats or kosty...it wouldn't be much of a contest.

I'm starting to think I'm taking crazy pills, because I have no idea where the comments about Kostitsyn's lack of effort are coming from. He has worked hard just about every game, created chances in the other team's zone, and played the body early and often. He's still finding his feet in the NHL, which is why the points aren't coming, but there is no lack of effort to me.

I never said we should gave up on him but his development has been a roller coaster ride and it's about to make a stop in Hamilton if HE doesn't improve his play.

I still say he should play in favor of Lats because Lats played Horrible last game! I dont care what anyone says, he slowed down the line completly and lost the puck everytime it was on his stick!!

lost it every time as in gave it away? strange, the stats from last game only show one give away on his part.

why is it no one grumbles this much when Chipchura sat out for 2 games? I know when Grabovsky was benched there was a little grumble but right now it looks like half the forum is ready to give up on a rookie that is still learning and the other half are about to declare war if he doesn't play

every rookie has taken a turn in the pressbox and it has not affected them, if anything it has made them work even harder. Chipchura played great in his first game, being benched after didn't break his spirit. Grabovsky whom alot feel is playing on borrowed time and may not put up with being benched came back and has played great, both rookies have a point each to show for it. Even guys like Begin and Latendresse have benefited greatly from some time in the pressbox.

Kostistyn said himself he was done with Hamilton and he was going to do everything he could to stick with the big club. I see no reason to doubt this as I see no reason to believe the coaching staff and management have "given up" on him after only 8 games. Unless he pulls a Samsonov Andrei will be back in the lineup soon enough.

my only advice would be Andrei, take a page out of Steve Begin's book and the next time you are in the lineup make sure you do everything you can so he never has reason for benching you

wow seems like lots of us fans are confused when it comes to this guy.

Is he overrated or is he really going to be a star in this league? Sure he didn't deserve to sit (before Kosto), but he did and Habs won. Carbo is going with the same lineup, so Kost has to be patient (and maybe start producing when he gets back) if he doesn't want to watch more games from the pressbox.

I was being sarcastic when I wrote my statement. Kind of bring home the point that he is just a kid with a lot of talent who is trying hard.

I am starting to dought Carbo's tactics. He needs to leave lines alone!!! The second line should be Kovy pleck and Kots and leave them alone!! Argghhhhh!!!!

I think watching from the press box for two games is not too bad. Personally I think he's been playing decent hockey and by watching gives him time to not only see and analyse the team but at the same time they can really focus on practices. At this current time I think that few would disagree to say that our rookies (Chips, Kots, and Grabs) have all got the talent necessary to play in the NHL but they are all lacking in the technical aspects. Not too mention adaption to the speed around them. I like what Carbo is doing with them so far...

I agree - also think it's absolutely nuts to bench this kid. He plays with heart and gets loads of great chances every game he has played. He should be back on line 2 and Lats should move down or sit - Lats has been squandering his opportunities so far this year - while Kostistyn has been working his tail off. Meanwhile, Kostitsyn and Kovy had great chemistry together. So let's mess with that - I don't understand the logic of this - Carbo is driving me insane.

He had 11 points in 15 games last year, so don't write him off yet.

Ditto. I've found nothing wrong with Kostitsyn's effort so far; infact, I've been impressed by how hard he skates and how willing he is to get dirty in the corners.

His effort and play is probably among the least of our worries.

That's just *****,the real problem is Latendresse but the guy who's watching the game is Kostitsyn.Did anybody watch the game tonight? Latendresse was standing there like a duck when Kovy and Plekanec where burning the ice.Overrated you say? I think I'm going to go crazy, the only player around here who's overrated is Latendresse.Kostitsyn is our best talent after Carey Price and we are wasting him. This is really unfair, stop wasting Kostitsn and drop Latendresse to Hamilton!

Actually, Latendresse has played much better in the last two games, since being sat. Tonight, he was cycling the puck, giving bodychecks and creating room for his lines mates. Kostitsyn sitting has nothing to do with Latendresse.

Why would a Habs fan not want the pair of them playing well ? (Lats and Kosty )

Kostitsyn will get back into the line up, and I am sure he will be fabulous.

It's the "must put someone down to raise my favorite" syndrome. It's too often widely spread around the forum.

Dandy if he is injured (rds said something that he wasn't 100%) if not he stays in the pressbox. waits his turn.

2006-07 Hamilton AHL 50 21 31 52 +24

Pretty impressive numbers if you ask me. He just kept getting better as the year went on last season. That was one of the reason he was in Montreal over the last 15 or 20 games

As JL alluded to, he is probably one of the most gifted players we have. One of the few who has the potential to be a superstar.

I think he needs to play and he needs more ice time to give him his confidence at the NHL level. But thats just me.
