Did anyone see that blast he had against the Amerks?? Point blank range right in front of there goalie and just blasted it through his glove. What a shot this kid has, and a nose for the net. He almost plays like Recchi in that, whenever he doesnt have the puck he nonchallantly drifts towards the net w/o pulling a defender to him then blasts a one timer as soon as the puck comes near him.

His old linemates Kane (Chicago) and Gagne (Edmonton) are doing well in the NHL.

And he is doing alright with the Bulldog so far, with 7 points in 7 games (2 goals, 5 assists). The stats from RDS are always behind though, and I believe it's more something like 7 points in 9 games.

he has 8 points in 8 games, on pace for a PPG in his first Pro Season, I think we will see great things from this kid due to how well he has adapted to the North American game in such a short amount of time. He may even be better than his brother and grabovski 5 years from now.

Unlike Andre, Sergei decided to come to North America two years ago to adapt to the North American game. Reading the coaching reports and comments from Habs management (Timmons for example) he is ahead in development when compared to Andrei (when he was at the same age). Andrei adapted to the game for two years while playing in the AHL.

From what I have read from his coach in London of Sergei's last year in the OHL I expect he has already adapted to the NA game. The coach had confidence playing him in every situation (PK, PP, etc...) and at times would double shift him. Personally I would expect a player of his calibre to adapt having two years in NA. It is amazing how much confidence he gained from the first year to the second when he tallied 141 pts.

Seeing how Gagne and Kane are performing in the NHL makes me wonder if he could be playing in the NHL now and producing. However there is not enough room on the parent club and it is a moot point as he is not. I am one of the few who like this kid and think he will be a better player than his brother (something I believe Andrei also stated though I cannot remember when or where I read that). However there are some people on the Forum who saw him play in London and are not impressed with him. They have a different viewpoint (and maybe a better one than I do).

Also there are some people on the Forum that believe that the results in the AHL does not necessarily translate to success in the NHL. However, approximately 70-80% of the players in the NHL graduated from the AHL. So 7-8 out of every 10 players go on to have some sort of career in the NHL. There are too many Elite Players to mention who have done this. Suffice I have added this link http://www.theahl.com/theahl/history/# where some of those names are mentioned.

In addition to having played two years in North America Sergei is only 20; two years younger than Andrei and four years younger than Grabovski. If he continues to play to his potential his two years playing the North American game should make him a better player than both. Whether Sergei is an Elite Prospect (as I believe) is a matter of opinion based on his stats and feedback from game reports and various articles I have read on his play. Ultimately it is in Sergei's hands to determine and prove.

Maybe like John LeClair he and his brother will be players in the Habs system that will not reach their full potential if they stay with Montreal. Then again maybe he will become a player like Thomas Plekanec who from last season to this season has blossomed into a strong 2nd line centre (when some pegged him as a third line centre) and Micheal Ryder who when finally promoted to the big club has scored the most goals on the team the last three years and this year has been committed to playing more responsibly defensively (again surprising some Forum members). Only time will tell.

In either case it is my hope that Sergei is within this 70-80% bracket that eventually end up playing in the NHL when he graduates from the AHL (hopefully sooner rather than later). As with all the other prospects in the system only the future will determine whether or not he is with Montreal.

Just my own humble hockey opinion.

Wow I'm surprised that no one has come in here to say that Sergei Kostitsyn only has the points he has because of his linemates? I supose give it time and they will be here!
