Guest FlHabsFan
Its time to buckle down, folks. The All-Star break is over, and the rush for the cup is on. Congratulations to Andrei Markov for his goal in the game, and for a great showing in the Habs uniform! Only 2 months remain in the season, and by the numbers, here is where we stand: 60 Points to date 49 Games played 33 Games left in the season 19 Home games left (9-8-5 at home) 14 Road games left (17-7-3 on the road) 14 Games remain against Non Divisional Eastern Conference opponents 13 Games remain against the NE division 6 Games remain against the west, including a 4 game roadtrip to California in the first half of March (Looking forward to the San Jose game) 6 Points behind Division leading Ottawa 5 Points ahead of the Boo-ins 4th Place in the conference 2nd In overall points in the Eastern Conference (8 more points then the Hurricanes who are leading in the South-Least division) 2 Games left against the Bruins 1 The amount of Stanley Cup winning teams this year 0 Number of Stanley Cups the Leafs have seen in 41 years Oct 11 games played 6-2-3 Nov 14 games played 7-7-0 Dec 14 games played 6-4-4 Jan 10 games with 2 games yet to be played 7-2-1 Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis recently wrote in his blog that the "playoff race is now on." Having Alexander Ovechkin continue playing like an All-Star could go a long way toward ensuring the team's first postseason appearance in five years. Led by the NHL's top goal-scorer, Washington looks to continue its climb up the Eastern Conference standings on Tuesday night when it meets the surging Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre in the start of a home-and-home series. With 51 points, the Capitals (23-22-5) are in 10th place in the East, but just three points behind the New York Islanders and the New York Rangers, who are tied for the eighth and final playoff spot. Washington hasn't played a postseason game since 2002-03, when it lost to Tampa Bay in the quarterfinals. Through the first quarter of this season, though, the Capitals were in disarray. They averaged 2.23 goals per game en route to a league-worst 6-14-1 start that resulted in coach Glen Hanlon being fired on Thanksgiving Day. Bruce Boudreau, who was coaching the Caps' top farm team, took over and has guided Washington to a 17-8-4 record in which it's averaged 3.37 goals per game. "It took two or three weeks before they started realizing that I think I meant business a little bit and I know what I'm talking about for the most part," Boudreau said. "I felt comfortable with the group from the beginning. I just did what I did ... and it seems to have a positive effect so far." No one on Washington has stepped up his play more than Ovechkin, who led the East to a win in the SuperSkills competition on Saturday before scoring twice in an 8-7 victory on Sunday at the All-Star game in Atlanta. Ovechkin has registered 25 of his 39 goals and 17 of his 26 assists since Boudreau took over. Ovechkin also is on pace for 64 goals this season - no one has scored 60 in one season since Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux (69) and Jaromir Jagr (62) in 1995-96. "We just have a goal - play hard every game," said Ovechkin, who scored twice in Washington's 5-4 overtime win at Montreal on Jan. 5. "And make little steps. It's just the beginning for our team." The Capitals earned a home-and-home split against Toronto with a 2-1 win on Thursday in the final game before the All-Star break. Viktor Kozlov scored the go-ahead goal 5:30 into the final period for Washington. Montreal (26-15-8) resumes play fourth in the East with 60 points, one point ahead of New Jersey and two in front of Pittsburgh. The Canadiens will be looking for their third straight win and fifth in six games. On Thursday, Montreal rallied with three third-period goals to defeat New Jersey 4-3. The Canadiens were 0-8-1 with one tie in their previous 10 road games against the Devils. After Bryan Smolinski and Saku Koivu scored to tie it at 3, Christopher Higgins notched a power-play goal with 5:29 remaining. Cristobal Huet needed to make just three saves in the final 20 minutes and finished with only 10. "It was nice to be able to come back on them like that," said Higgins, who's tied with Tomas Plekanec for second on the team with 16 goals behind Alexei Kovalev (21). Andrei Markov, the Canadiens' only All-Star representative, scored on Sunday. Markov has 11 goals this season, tying him for third in the NHL among defensemen. Washington's Mike Green leads all blueliners with 14 goals in 2007-08. These teams will meet for the final time in the regular season on Thursday at the Verizon Center. Associated Press Oh the pics above will be fixed when I get home. So those are red X's youre seeing. And I don’t want anyone to think im Monopolizing the Game Day Thread. I just want to make sure there is one, so the Mod's arent forced to do one.
roy_133
hahah, nice thread. This is the kind of game we need to continue to win if we want to be serious about putting some heat on Ottawa down the stretch.
fourtrax
If we can shut down Ovechkin, we have a very good chance of winning the game. All right, Markov, time to show your friend who's boss!

Guest RockMtl
These 2 next games are going to be good!!!! The 4 top teams in the league on a roll - (based on last 10 games) - Det. (D'huh) - Phi, MTL and yup - Washington! So no picnic here! Our HAbs with the worst home record in the league (the only team still in single digits in the win column) and the surging Capitals. There is no 'down time' for our HABS. TUESDAY'S game - should be a doosey!!!!!

Guest concreteveins
PP needs to keep clicking and we need to crach the net. Same game plan against Jersey, side and back of the net is where chances come from. Look for Koivu with a couple of helpers here folks, with the defense shouldering most of the offensive load - MMW. Habs 4 Caps 2.
Guest HabsFanStuckInToronto!
Team is going to be ready to go come tomorrow night. Not only are they going to want to win at home, they are going to want to carry their moementum over from the previous game especially. After a big win in Jersey, Montreal goes on the face WASHINGTON! Markov has to be ready to take on his great buddy and Huet has to have a strong game. We almost beat Washington last time and if anything that showed me if Price would have been better, we most likely would have won because we got 4 good goals. Time to get a win this time at the Bell Centre. I've missed you boys and I know you won't dissapoint. GO HABS GO!

Guest QbGamer
Im not to worried about this game, The only reason we lost the last one against the Caps is because Price fell apart during the game, and probably had his worse game of his season. I have alot of confidence in Huet, and i expect another great game from him. If our team can continue to put in the goals as they have, we will be fine. AK-1
I expect this game to be an explosive game, with lots and lots of goals for some reason. At least 10 goals total. I see something like 8-6 Habs. The AK-TP-AK line will continue to shine, as always.
