Guest 1970 Habs
I'm not sure which two you're referring to, so I'm going guess at Danis and Halak. Sure, it sucks that they're not getting the opportunities that they deserve, but what can you do? With Huet playing as well as he is, and Price being the obvious choice for next in line, there's just not enough room. Price's potential far exceeds that of the other two, and that potential needs to be explored, even if it's at the expense of others in the system. Good guess JV. I can understand the rationale. It just rankles me because I truly think Halak is ready and good enough for the big show. As for Danis he is even in a worse place. When I look at a guy like Mathieu Garon though it really makes me wonder.

Honestly, you'd think he was a murderer to hear some people talk. No doubt!! I'll add smolinski to that too. If we hadnt managed to go on this mass winning streak, there would still be fans saying the reason we're fighting for a playoff spot is brisebois & smolinksi. Everyone makes mistakes - and while neither will be challenging for the norris or the selke, they both have done satisfactory most nights. Not spectacular, but what do you expect from a #3/4 centre and a #4/5 defensman?

Honestly, you'd think he was a murderer to hear some people talk. Although many post on Brisbois are negative, they are not as bad as your saying, Murderer lol. It has been said along with the negativity that he has his usefulness. i.e. helping the youngsters and when we have injuries he can come in and help as an 8th D-man. I think things were intentionally taken out of context to start something beyond normal discussion. After all we are all allowed our opinion, as this opinion from a post in "If I were gm" on Dec 23rd 2007 at 11:46 pm. I'm happy with what he's doing now.

I am allowed my opinion also am I not? I just don't appreciate you going around to many threads and attacking what you want others to believe what I said. I understand you being a Mod you need to read many post and confusion can happen, in Knowing that you should be sure about what one said before attacking it. Anyway this has nothing to do with the habs, sorry bout that. I am really positive about our habs. Like I said many times before we have an awesome team sit back and enjoy. jigger-1
Why does Koivu always take those same stupid hooking penalties, most times in the offensive zone? The rules have been in place for how long now? Two things worry me right now. First, Koivu has been taking way too many of those hooking penalties lately. On Sunday we were up 3-0, on the powerplay and he takes a hooking penalty in the offensive zone when we're in control of the puck. We all know what happens after. I am worried about Koivu. I've always defended him and have been a huge fan of his but lately I don't recognize him on the ice. Maybe all the injuries, age, cancer etc are catching up to him. I'm not sure what, if anything can be done but it's a situation that seems to not be improving unfortunately. Second, We need to learn to preserve a lead. I don't know what is causing the late meltdowns but there has to be a bit of concern and focus from the coaching staff on this. Truth is we just allowed 8 goals in two games. Were it not for an amazing save or two by Huet last night the same scenario as Sunday could have occured. We have to get our focus back on playing a really stingy defensive system. That game should have been over after the first period yesterday.
Guest 1970 Habs
Personally I think Koivu is having vision problems. As for the Team meltdowns it comes with having a young inexperienced (NHL experience) team.

He's still working hard and he has 6 points in his last 7 games. For whatever reason this year, the points are not coming easy for Saku. Your second point, I don't feel we blew the lead in the third because we gave up or stopped skating. We had some bad luck, a bad line change caused a goal and a flukey wrister from the point. I don't know if I'd agree with the stingy defensive system, it might be a good option, but I'd rather see them continue pressing even after a big lead, they play better defensively when they're trying to score. Just my opinion though.

Even sans Alfy and Heater - I don't think Ottawa was ever accused of being a 1 dimensional team and once the momentum changed with a goal and penalties - they kept coming at us - so OUR biggest asset is speed and getting first to the puck - pressure, pressure, pressure. Guest arrowsno13
Im wondering if sunday was due to Hammr being sick and last night due to him not being there. Hes our best defensive defense man out there Ummm, are you following the games this year? Best defensive defenceman? Carbo isn't putting Komi and Markov out there to shut down the opps top lines and on 1st unit penalty kills because they are good looking players. Hammer is too slow and when I saw him and Breeze-by playing together I knew we were in trouble. My peeve with the Habs right now has to be with Lats. The guy is not worthy of a spot on the Hab's roster. Positive points: He can hit. Negative points: He can't fight...won't fight. His skating skills are worse than Skrudland's. Most of his goals this year have been shot from bad angles and the goalies had brain farts or the rebound was laying in the crease behind the goalie. Takes up too much space on the bench. Solution: Trade him one-for-one with a legit enforcer. Reason: They can hit harder; score the same types of goals; skate faster and not look so goofey out there doing so; and drop the gloves when needed. I'll stick my neck out and say - he's playing more consistant then Surray ever did (not talking points here) - I'll take his +2 rating for now! As for Lat's - I tend to agree with some points - he doesn't like the rough stuff and I wonder sometimes about him and he has no speed (EX: turned a breakaway into a 3 man scrum last night), but he does lead the Habs with 5 on 5 goals - and he does not shy away from the scrums in front of the net and bag garbage goals. Something that Yvon Lambert was good at - and he had a relatively decent career with the Habs. (PS: I don't think I would cry if he was gone - but I don't dislike him)

We have to play that boring defensive style and capitalize on scoring opportunities and powerplays.
