Nice quote.

MacKenzie, McGuire, and sometimes Cox  are the only guys on TSN who I really like. Everyone else is either a gomer *cough*DREGER*cough*...or a washed up GM. Duthie is ok, but I take the first three over him.

Pierre had a virus...Gelinas should never be in the booth again. You can so tell he's reading off the prompter.

Right on .. I feel the same way about most of them. MacKenzie & McGuire are more for real.

I don't know what's up with all of the arguing, it's a remark that was easy enough to ignore, you can debate it in the Price thread. Hard enough to catch up with 60 pages after the game. Please and thank you?

First period was the best hockey I have seen played by a team, quite possibly ever. Phoenix had complete control over the game. Their pressure was consistent, their players were well positioned and they were rotating lines while sustaining pressure in the offensive zone. I gained a lot of respect for them tonight. The work and discipline to run that system and the cohesiveness they showed as a unit was awe inspiring. As much as I hated what was happening to our team, you have to recognize and respect Phoenix's play.

Price was definitely a first period hero. Quality of shots aside, he stayed aware and mobile and the biggest factor is that he did not give them any openings. If he had been out of position for a second, with the way Phoenix was controlling the puck, that's a goal. Goaltending isn't always about making a save, half of his work was being ready and in position to make the save should it be necessary. We were caught completely off guard and our D was working hard to break the pressure, but Phoenix was indomnitable. It was Price's play and a lot of luck, combined with desperation, that stopped us from falling behind in a big way.

If it weren't for Kovalev taking it upon himself to provide us with some offense, we might not get out of that situation.

He showed us that it was possible to break the pressure and go on the offensive.

Phoenix either lost their way or we adapted to their game, but they didn't manage to play that well for the rest of the game. If they can do that consistently, they are going to be one of the most dangerous teams in the league next year.

I've been concerned over the 4 minute high sticking calls a few times this year. I think the extra two minutes should only apply if the victimized player is wearing a full face shield. Lapierre may have been careless with his stick, but both were caused by contact from a Phoenix player. The first was a check that sent the stick up and the second appeared to be a result of his stick being held and when he tried to pull it back he overbalanced and/or stepped on a stick blade. You should be responsible if it is blatant or reckless use of the stick, but for incidental contact, the responsibility should lie with the players to protect themselves.

Also a number bad calls this game. They finally called somebody for mauling Kovalev. They miss Plekanec getting Kerrigan'd in front of the net. Ask me if I feel guilty about Plekanec's Oscar performance (lifted somebody's arm and then "fell" near the Phoenix blueline). If they aren't going to call some obvious ones, I guess we will have to make up some penalties to compensate.

I hope everybody saw what I saw, because I've been on these guys for a little while now and they finally got the message. (I guess ESP is slow as a means of communication.) I saw Koivu down low and in the corners AND I saw him move towards a lose puck, even though there was a Coyote within 5 ft of it. Higgins was using his body! He was even getting in front of the net. I'm impressed and I can only hope they keep it going next game. Also a character play by Higgins to give the puck back to S. Kostitsyn and let him get the goal when he had a clear opportunity to take it for himself, that is class. First game I have been proud of Higgins' performance in a long time. Couldn't be happier.

I was also happy with Latendresse's performance. He wasn't very effective, I'll admit. He did put more of an effort into tonight's game than he has been however. I hope he is finally getting enthusiastic about being a part of this team. If he is lucky enough to be in the lineup next game, I hope he can build on tonight's game and just maybe in a couple more outings he will be a contributing player. He may still want to work on his aim in practice however and maybe go to Kovalev and learn a few maneuvers that can help him get a clear shot off without losing possession first.

I applaud O'Byrne's treatment of the player he threw into the net. It was a bad time to give up a PP, but the guy coming in had speed and didn't show any sign of changing course. I don't think Price was roughed up too much after that point. So it might have left an impression.

Another 3 point night for Kovalev, he's a machine and Plekanec is the Mechanic. Kovalev spits out the pucks and Plekanec corrects their trajectory. They are both on fire.

Ryder and Dandan clocked under 10:00 tonight. I hope Ryder can connect with someone on his line for some plays next game. Dandan may have just been a test run, so time will tell. Smolinski was 80% out of 10 faceoffs, Carb might have found a use for him.

One more note:

Price : 37 saves

Komisarek : 7 blocked shots

Rest : 15 blocked shots among 11 players

Price didn't do it alone, but he sure as hell did his share. Komisaurus got his dino feet in front of quite a few as well.

EDIT : BTW, the Coyotes knocked the "Meep meep!" out of me within the first 5 minutes of the game.

Nevertheless apology is accepted... Go habs go.

Sorry, sweetie.

You deserver no apology.

Where do you imagine these things? lol

So. We stole that game. But hey, sometimes, when you're good, you can win games you really don't have any busness winning X). On the plus side, The Cyotes probably feel robbed and will come out on fire against Ottawa XD

Good points.

I agree, you can steal games where you have:

  • fantastic goaltending
  • goal scorers that can awaken at any time
Right now, the Habs have them both.

(The 'Goals For' watch: Habs #2 @ 217, now only 2 goals behind Ottawa, with a game in hand; all meaning, #1 in Goals per Game @ 3.13)

Congrats to BG and the boys!!

As I've said before, the Habs will win the "Goals For" title. Their offense is on a continuing upswing.

"Price gets 'burned' in the sun; Habs almost get burned in hockey game."

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2008...ns-coyotes.html

Well, that explains a lot !!

Given a well-earned day off the Habs players were enjoying sun and fun; sapped their energy (the sun did), and had difficulty getting their legs going. Price somehow played great!

Next stop: LA's Hollywood, then Anaheim's Disneyland !! :D

yah i found they were taking cheap shots, but what are you going to do, thats hockey, players play with their emotions, but i sure did not thinkg we were going to win, we were getting way out played in the first and we just seemed sluggish and couldnt control the playe in the O end.

It's one thing to say we're gonna have a tough game Sunday, but to say we're gonna get destroyed and killed by the Ducks? Yeah that's pessimism. By the way, I didn't compare the style of the Coyotes and Ducks at all, and I obviously don't think the Habs can beat the Ducks playing the way they did tonight. I was simply saying the best teams figure out a way to win, and judging by the standings, the Coyotes aren't one of them. The Ducks on the other hand, are one of the best teams. Anyways, just try to be a bit more positive ;).

Ducks have a very good team that plays tough & rough resulting in a lot of penalties. They're definitely beatable and if we stick to our game plan and convert on our pp opportunities, we should be okay. First though, I'd like us to beat LA and move on from there.

Pierre had a virus...Gelinas should never be in the booth again. You can so tell he's reading off the prompter.

In all fairness I thought that Luc Gelinas and Yvon Pedneault did an okay job considering they were unexpectantly thrust into roles they never do... Pedneault the play-by-play and Gelinas the colour. If the game had been in Montreal, or perhaps even somewhere closer to Montreal, Alain Crete or Denis Casavant likely would've done play-by-play but it probably just wasn't possible to fly one of those two out to Phoenix on such short notice to do this game. And since Gelinas was the only other crew member on the west coast trip with them, they had to make do with what they had. Hopefully Pierre's feeling better and is back in the booth in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.

As for the game, the Canadiens came out completely flat in this one. I was worried something like this would happen with Carbonneau giving the team more leisure time on this trip and bringing family members along. It's almost like they are treating it like it's a complete vacation. But it was good to see them come through in the clutch in the third period to snatch a much needed win... especially with the likes of Pittsburgh and Ottawa both losing!

I can't believe how many people DON'T go to these hockey games down there. Tons of empty seats and the majority of ppl there were wearing Habs jerseys. How do hockey teams like that stay afloat?

I thought the first and second periods were pretty boring, but the third period added some excitment. All and all, good effort to pick up another two pts.

Gary Bettman.

Because, you know, it's all-important to protect healthy, vital franchises like Phoenix, Nashville, Tampa Bay, and Los Angeles. You know, the cornerstones of the league, the teams that bring in the revenue.

Lol, so true.

It was just pathetic watching that. Jersey also has quite a few empty seats per game too.

Baffles my mind. And how does the other team gain any momentum at home when 90% of the people that actually show up for the game are cheering for the other team.

Montreal has to do two things tonight. One, get goals early and as often as possible. Two, WIN! I feel Higgy's gonna have a great game. Price is gonna show us that the last game was a fluke. He was given a vote of confidence by Carbs and he's going to act on it. GO HABS GO!!!!!:lol:

I wasn't too far off. We scored early and often...in the third period. We won! Higgy had two assists. Price played like a madman on a mission. :P

Was it just my imagination, or were the Habs fans in attendance starting an "Ole, Ole" chant late in the third period last night? Awesome if they were. :)

I had to watch the game on mute at work so I can't confirm but I wouldn't be surprised seeing how many fans were there. I know they do it in Ottawa, Boston, Philidelphia, Buffalo.... anywhere else? maybe Floriday & Tampa Bay?
