I ain't afraid of no Sens.

There is no doubt, the Sens have had our number this season and bring a 4-1 series record into the Bell on Thursday night. Our last game against them, well let's face it, we got slimed.

Ottawa has not faced the Huet-less Habs yet however. Price has been able to focus on his game and will need to be at the top of it to hold off the likes of Spezza and Heatley. Alfredsson will miss this game with back spasms. Ottawa will still be dangerous however and our defense will have their hands full. Price will need their full support.

Our top line will need to be on point, but we will also need our other lines to threaten. Both Gerber and Emery practice against the creative and highly skilled Ottawa offense, so we aren't likely to surprise them with a flashy play on numerous occasions. We will have to create traffic and second chances to get pucks into the net.
Kovalev knows this all too well with his skill and creativity only earning him 1 goal in his last 10 games against the Senators.
Price is coming off a strong shutout and will need to extend that performance for a number of minutes to allow our team to pick up an early lead. Heatley notched a hat trick in his last game and will need to be watched carefully.

With 3 games remaining against our division rivals and only a 2 point buffer going into tonight's game, we will need to reverse the momentum of this season's series versus the Sens. They bring a 4-5-1 record in their last 10 games to our 6-4-0 record. We have won 6 of our last 8 games. With the battle in the conference standings so close, top spot in the division takes on renewed importance, only 4 points currently seperate us from 6th place.

Things could get a little rough this game. It won't take much to set these two teams at each other's throats and action should be intense. Here's a couple of little reminders for us fans. Hopefully Montreal will just stick to their game, but the likes of Chris Neil could make that difficult.

(Noone deserves that, vicious)

Soup Boy vs. Neil

With the momentum and fan support from Tuesday, this should be our game to win. Go Habs Go!

well well well, Marvin sure is popular today :P

Gotta win this one .... I know, I know very original but what can I say, it's true ;) Make us forget the last fiasco against the Sens, stay on Tuesday's high. No Neil = Good thing No Alfie = Better thing.

Hopefully Pleki is top shape tonight.

Go Habs Go!

lol is bouillon trying the vulcan nerve pinch there or what??

Oh and great thread ricochet, that's a few nice ones now, keep it up :P

Thank you! 3-0 GDT record for me :)

I'm guessing you used Marvin on the french side, eh? (Yup, just checked)

I said I wasn't afraid of no Sens when I elected to put the thread up. I try to avoid doing two in a row, but noone else seemed interested. Anyway, made me think of Ghostbusters and Marvin just fits in the symbol better than the logo. ;)

I think the nerve pinch is more to the shoulder. Soup Boy is fierce, he goes straight for the jugular.

My two cents...

Ottawa is coming off a big win and I don't think they will have the capability of riding it well. Heads will be a bit blown up and they will be caught off guard. The big three has been cut down to two with the absence of Alf. With no captain to lead the way they will stumble to the Habs shut down defence, electrifying offence and to none else Carey price, who has shown he can handle the pressure.

Just a note on the goaltending situation here in Montreal which led me to believe why we traded Huet. From the beginning of the season the two, Huet and Price, were off to great starts. Huet got injured and Price took over and handled himself pretty well. Huet comes back and insists he should be the no.1 goalie. From there, they both struggled. Price was sent down to Hamilton and Huet picked up his game. When Price was recalled the struggles reappeared. I think the two are very capable No. 1's just as long as the threat of the other isn't present.

Things to watch for tonight...

Kovy was quiet last game and I think it had a lot to do with Pleks playing a bit under the weather. Look for that line to break the game right open.

Koivu has picked up the slack as of late and is showing his true value as the Habs "C".

I feel Hammer is going to make a big difference in the backfield. Might even add a point or two.

Ottawa is going to come out trying to intimidate the Habs by sending out McGratton to charge them up. The Habs won't bite and McGratton will sit throughout most of the 2nd and, if not, all of the third. Unless we whip their butts and he is put on for decoration purposes.

Go Habs Go!

I don't say this often, but I will miss the game. :(

Maybe it's a good thing..my 2 fav teams battling it out :P

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope it's a good one at least.

Isn't it great though not to be stressing about a playoff spot. I know it isn't guaranteed yet, but...much better than the last few years (waiting).

At the risk of sounding repeatitve because I just said it last game...

THIS IS A HUGE GAME TONIGHT!!! THE BIGGEST GAME OF THE SEASON SO FAR!

Yes even more important then then the Jersey game. If we don't win the confrence then oh well 2nd place still gets us home ice in the first 2 rounds and a probable match up vs. either the Bruins or Flyers two teams that we own.

But if we don't win our division then oh oh we got some trouble. Landing in 4th or 5th will get us a first round date with either the Penguins or Devils. I know we beat the Devils 3 times this year but playoffs a diffrent story. roduer is still the best playoff goalie in the league and they got way more experiance. The Pens beat us the last two times we played I would rather avoid Crosby and Malikin at least for a couple rounds. Either way these are two teams I want no part of in round 1.. I will take them in round 3 but not round 1.

If we lose this game we even have to start worring about droping down to 6th as the Rangers have been charging up the standings as well. We have come way to far to settle for a 6th place finnish.. And frankly I want home Ice for a change.

If we win this game then we are looking really good for the division win and we are back on top of the confrence. Also If we win this game we send a message to the Sens as well.. That they may have 4 wins against us so far but we ar not that same team they beat 4 times and we can take them in the play offs. The Sens are missing Alfredsson we need to Capitalize on that. 5-1 and 4-2 are completley diffrent stories.. By the end of the seaqson I wanna see 4-4. If that happens we are golden.

Priority number 1 for the Habs tonight contain Heatley and Spezza. Komi and Markov are going to have to be on there game tonight.. Play this game just like you played the Devils no rebounds clear the garbage, limit space in front of price and give them no room to make plays. Heatley can kill you from the circle as well so puch them outside.. On offence 4 lines and 6 minutes. and The Powerplay must be wuick. Ottawa PK puts a lot of pressure on you so the puck has gotta move quickley. Win face offs in the offensive and defensive zones. Having possesion of the draw especialy on the PP will be key to our success tonight.

Price needs to do exactly what he has always done step up and be at his best when it counts the most. Its crunch time therefore its Price time!

Basically , We need to win 4 games out of our last 10-11? If we win 4 games we are GUARANTEED a playoff spot but we should try and win them all anyways!

Thats great news but I am far past hopeing for a play off spot.. right now my biggest want before the playoffs is the confrence but my biggest need before playoffs is the division.

just making the playoffs isn't good enough anymore we are past that now. The goal is the confrence but the division is a must have. Frankly if we end up in 7th or 8th I will be imbaressed and I won't feel very good about our chances of advancing past the first round. If we end up in 6th I will be embaressed too but I would be opk since I would rather face Carolina then Pittsburgh, New Jersey or Ottawa in round 1. I really want to avoid 4th or 5th. And thats why the divsion is a must.

I hope your dream comes true Habsgirl.

This is the 3rd or 4th time that our Habs have had the opportunity to really put some distance between them and Ottawa, but always seem to come up short in those defining games.

I believe tonight, that they will do it!

The two teams that pose the biggest regular season problems in the past few years to the Habs have been the Devils and Sens. We have gotten by one this year, and in the process I think the team really gained alot of confidence.

The Sens are a different story, in some ways they play alot like the Habs. They have a quick, open game. I think the Habs need to play this game as if they were playing the Devils. Do not run and gun with Ottawa. I know its our style, but a defense first approach, is the way to beat these guys. Stay out of the box, and dont give up those odd-man rushes. No Neil and Alfie will make a BIG difference.

Go Habs.

I agree with you on first vs. second. It really could only matter coming down to conference finals against NJD or Pitt and home ice for that series. Habs should be pretty indifferent whether they play Boston or Philly the first round, and they'd still ahve home ice for the 2nd round. Beating out the Sens in the standings has great (the most) value. The three games against the Sens are key; it would be great to score 4 points to 2 (or better!) in the three games!! I think that would pretty much seal it given the Habs have a two point lead already, and given the Habs remaining schedule.Let's really mess the Sens up for the homestretch -- score early and big tonight on Gerber and chase him, yielding Emery coming in before the game is half over, and more "goalie controversy" !! :D

Nice game thread.............

I think this game is HUGE - we can put a little space between us and the Sens, all be it only 4 points, but thats better than being tied. We need to prove to ourselves and to the Sens along with the rest of the league that we can play with the Sens and beat them. We proved it against the Devils now we must do it against the Sens. We have to ride the play of last game into this one, we have to keep our heads in the game and keep working hard.

My opinion is that this game is ours, we win 4-2, Price plays another solid game in between the pipes.

Hope I am right....GO HABS GO

Any news regarding Pleks? He certainly was playing last game far below normal due to illness.

When does the lineup normally get announced?

No Neil or Alf. Based on information on TSN.

I hope that Grabs gets into the lineup. He is very offensively creative. The Ottawa defence has not played well for the past 20 - 30 games. Players with speed should be able to generate scoring chances against Ottawa.

Shutdown Heatley. He just had a hat trick. It is time that Carbo put together a shutdown line for teams like the Sens and Pens who have star forwards that a regular line would have a tough time playing against. Not just trying to have Markov, Hammer, or Komi against the top line. That is not good enough IMO.

A shutdown forward line that should be able to handle the Spezza / Heatley line is Smoke, Kostopolous, and Streit. Along with Komi/Markov or Hammer/O'Byrne at D.

This might mean less ice time for Pleks but when his line is on the ice he should be fresher and even more dangerous.

Let's win the remaining 3 games against the Sens. Our team is overall much better then Ottawa so it should be very possible.

5-2 victory for Montreal.

Considering that on 10/11/2007, we were leading the whole game until late in the 3rd period when Alfie scored, Neil scored and then Alfie scored again to make it 3-1.

It seems that Neil always plays good against us so I am just as glad to see him out of the lineup as Alfie...

GO HABS GO!!

Let's make Spezza realize that this is the "statement" game haha
