Now that he has around 60 points I'm not sure he's any longer the "unsung hero". The frontrunners in my mind would be Gorges, Bouillion, Kostopolous, maybe Hamrlik (although I'm not sure if a guy with a 5 million + contract really qualifies as "unsung"), and maybe Lapierre.

My pick would be Gorges, Kostopolous runner up, Bouillion in third.

I made a case for Hamrlik a while back and I am going to stick to it. I agree 5 million dollar players are usually far from unsung or obscure but I think given all the other stories of the season Hamrlik's astonishing play has gone largely uncredited thus making him the logical choice for the award. He missed 5 games ; we lost 3, badly.

ROMAN HAMRLIK should win it. If not him I'd give it Josh Gorges as a tribute to his play with Komisarek out.

Gorges. Since December he has played above and beyond what anyone could have expected him to do. Since Komi has bene out Gorges has stepped up his game. He is playing like top pairing defenceman. I could see Hamrlik getting the award but IMO Gorges deserves it more. Hamrlik was brought here to anchor the 2nd pairing which he has done quite well but Gorges spent time in and out of the pressbox and was on his way to being a reserve d man. Right now I would rank him as the 3rd best defenceman we have in the current lineup.

Gorges no doubt.

Streit would deserve it again yes, but he had it once, and Gorges has made a huge contribution without paricularly being noticed. I'd give it to little Josh.

My congratulations to Streit but I fully agree that it should have went to Gorges.

Well congratulations, but I'm not sure how someone with 60 points is unsung? I'm a little confused by this pick.

I would have taken Gorges.

But Congratulations to my MAN Mark Streit!!!!

It's probably cause it says something like "the most improved"...

if that was the case Kovalev would have been a top canidate :D

Honestly I can say I am surprised that Streit won. Good for him none the less

Congrats to Streit. I think he got this because of the way he has been put back and forth from Dman to up front and that he wasn't expected to play this well.

Go habs Go

By unsung I think they mean in terms of the media.

It was definitely between Streit and Gorges in my mind, and am happy with the result either way. The only problem with potentially having Gorges is that there were times (particularily early) where his role was minimalized, even though he's been tremendous in an increased role in recent weeks.

no one said the player had to be 'unsung'.

the award simply goes to the player who has made a recognizable contribution to the team without having received any awards or other accolades. Albeit everyone is aware of streit's presence this season but he hasn't won anything for all that hard work, hence why he was chosen.

It's generally the unofficial description of the award.

No one has won anything. Kovalev will get the Molson Cup, and maybe Price gets a nomination for the Calder or something, but no one else has won anything either. I guess if you include Markov going to the All Star game as "winning", that takes him out. But even so, if this was the criteria, I'd give it to Plekanek.

By unsung I think they mean in terms of the media.

I don't know, Mark is getting pretty good media coverage. And the year Begin won it he was an incredibly popular player and got lots of media attention. I've always taken the award to be a player who contributes the most with intangibles or lesser known stats (like shot blocks) rather than on the main scoresheet.

A well deserved award for Mark Streit.

It seems that the award has gone to his head......Brutal playoff performance so far for him in my opinion.....

Except game 1, where he was all fine. I don't think it was going to his head. It didn't last year...
