Having a look at the poll, I'm quite shocked to see the expectations on this team. True that they've finished first in the conference, but it's still a very young team. I have a feeling that there could very well be a lot of disappointed people on this forum in a few weeks if the Habs don't live to those expectations. More work for the moderators, I guess. :D

I picked win the Cup. Honestly I would settle for Cup finals as I think this team can be in the mix for many more years and will win the Cup several times over the next 7 years.

I don't want to sound biased, but the Habs are the best team in the NHL. Carey Price will do for the Habs what he did last year for the Bulldogs.

The truth of the matter is even if you voted for something other than winning the cup, we will ALL be disappointed if they don't win it. Us going far into the playoffs (even getting in, and winning the East) would far exceed expectations at the beginning of the year, but the team really has a very good chance of going all the way, so we fans a re pumped about that.

If they don't win th cup, there will be disappointment, but not at the achievements of the team, only at not getting the holy grail of hockey.

I really believe in these guys. They can beat any team, and Price is a game stealing goalie. I have high hopes for these playoffs!

I predict we will win the Cup every year. This year no different. We'll win with another rookie goalie to keep up the tradition. The West teams will beat themselves up while the Habs coast to the final. It will be a 4-1 final or maybe a sweep.

Go Habs!

Every round will probably be more of a test than we want to admit. Even Boston....I'll bet we don't sweep them four straight, even if we did have their number in the regular season. But I think we'll win that series.

After that, it could be very tough for our Habbies, depending on who we play.....but almost every other team plays us tough. Pittsburgh.....ugh. Washington....ugh. New Jersey....ugh. New York Rangers.....double ugh. Even the "new" Ottawa could give us fits. And Philly....well, I don't think they'll be around very long this postseason.

It all comes down to whether the Habs take every game seriously....because if they try to get away with what they did so many times in the regular season (come out sleeping, try to win in the last five minutes, etc.), any of the above teams will eat them for lunch. NOW we will see just how "consistent" this team can be.

Consistency is not about losing only a few games in a row, and then "bouncing back." In the playoffs, you can get eliminated by losing only one in a row. Consistency is about hitting the ice at full throttle every shift of every game.

Another thing I hope I don't see the team do is go into that fatal "protect" mode when they get a lead. Other teams can smell the fear. You can't put teams away by doing that. You can lose a lot more than just a game by giving up five goals in the third period....you can lose your confidence. And then, it's a very slippery downhill slope after that.

Montreal had a great regular season. Kudos. But, in a lot of people's minds, they haven't proven anything yet. For me, if they don't go all the way, I want to see them at least go down as fighters, rather than self-destructing.

All that being said, I think our boys can beat any other team when their game is on. We have the most balanced, and therefore, the most dangerous attack in the NHL. We have great goaltending, and pretty solid defense. We have strong leadership and good chemistry. We have the most potent power play and the highest-scoring team in the league. We have proven that we can make record-breaking comebacks because we never quit. With all these ingredients, all we have to do is show up and play our game, and we have as good a chance as anyone to take it all.

But, we also have lots of inexperience. This will be Carbo's first playoff season as head coach. Many of our players also have not ever played an NHL playoff game. It's tough to say how they will handle the inevitable adversity and challenges that will come. It's like what pressure does to people....some focus, some fold.

So, it won't be easy....but it will be exciting!

I thinks this team can easily get to the East Finals, and that would be a tough series, and if they win, who knows, 1 series against a team from the west, could go our way.

Here is my prediction upto the finals, which I think the Habs will be:

Habs beat the Bruins in 5 games (yes, the Bruins will finally beat the Habs - 1 game)

Habs then beat the Rangers in 6 games

Habs then have their toughest test, a 7 game series with Washington, win game 7 in OT

Finally go to the Finals and play against Colorado (long shot, but my guess) this series goes 6 or 7 games, with Habs winning

I think that we can play competitively with anyone in the league. So how does that translate to playoff success?

To me, one of the major keys is to end your early series quickly, and allow the bruises and bumps to heal while others are still out there banging away. While I don't think it will be easy I'm hoping we can take the Ruins out in 5 and some of the other series go longer.

The injuries that we have had might just tend to be godsends if we can overcome the Bruins, and also can come back with a well rested and rejuvenated Koivu, Komisarek, and Boulillon.

Go Habs Go - So great to see Habs hockey in April, and who knows - MAYBE even into May!

I honestly think this team can accomplish anything they want to.I'm going out on a limb and saying they win it all this year and next year. When you have a season like this anything less is disappointing.

With the way it is set up this year I'll say they beat the Bruins in 5 tough games. Then they beat the Rangers in 6 games. Then they face the team I think everyone would like to see as a Eastern conference match up and beat the Penguins in 7 games with a thrilling game 7 OT victory with Price standing on his head and Kovalev clinching a Stanley cup finals birth with a beauty that not even Don Cherry can deny in the 1st OT.

In the finals we will face and this is where I can't decide.Detroit/Anaheim/or San Jose.If it's Detroit or San Jose we win in 6 games. If it's Anaheim we win in 5 games. So I'm saying not only do we win it all,but we do it on home ice.

Don't get me wrong, I will be cheering them until the very end (have been doing so for 4 decades), but if they go into the third round, they will have exceeded my expectations, so it will be gravy so to speak, as opposed to disappointment if they don't make it all the way.

I love the optics of this thread,

which, optimistically, puts to bed,

the pundits, with their nodding heads ,

and naysayers, who were so misled!

First and foremost is our class,

as, head of, we can sure surpass;

the other, in the western zone,

is not above being overdone.

A cup within our grasp is full,

of sure surprises, in its pull,

that we can off its moorings take,

our fill, at last, for Stanley's sake!

GO HABS GO!

Where's the option for none?:P

It's the Bruins :P

Seriously, we shouldn't underestimate Boston, they will play hard, but it would take a complete collapse for them to win the series. Montreal is clearly the superior team9 and there is no reason Boston should beat us, although stranger things have happened.

On offense, they have Savard (0 playoff games), Sturm (who is good but can be shut down), and a longshot with Bergeron. The rest of the forwards couldn't manage 40 points. Then there's their defense, the only player worth mentioning is Chara - who while good in some situations, is terrible againts teams like Montreal that can skate circles around him - he becomes a big pilon. In goal, Tim Thomas, while good statistically, is very shaky and can be exploited. He also has 0 playoff games.

Montreal may not be the most experienced, they may not have much superstar power up front, but we outdo Boston on a number of levels, and barring a huge upset, that series is the least of my concerns. The next series (likely against NJ/NYR) will be tougher, but we can take either of them.

I voted for all the way, why not? What the Habs have done already this season has exceeded my expectations, so anything from here on is gravy. Is it possible to win the cup? Who knows, there are a million things that can happen between now and the finals that will have an effect on the outcome. Such as injuries, suspensions, teams that gave us fits being eliminated, eliminating a team that has given us fits and building confidence, our second line getting hot, any line getting cold, THE FLU, etc...

But if enough of those "million things" go our way, this team is good enough to win.

The Habs are a very young team and have done great, I will not be disapointed if they are eliminated early (round 2), as long as they give it the effort I know they can.

There is little doubt in my mind they will win the Stanley Cup. The team has everything they need to do it. If they lose in the East it will be to the Capitals or Penguins though.

Bad news bergeron is going to make a return soon. :o

Big deal. After so long out he will be useless. He would have to work back into form and there isnt enough time in one series to do that.

I wonder what's the crazy idea of playing him after such a freak injury which jeopardized his career for a long while. Simon Gagné payed for returning after his concussion problems and now has to stay put for the whole summer to recover, a wise decision.

Are the Bruins organization crazy or what? You can't do that to your own player even if the doctor says he's OK, especially when he means a lot for the future.

Habs over B's in 6.....a hard fought serious, we split the first 4, win game 5, overtime winner in game 6 by Markov.

Habs over Flyers in 5. Here's hoping the flyers bounce the Caps, not that I dont like the Caps, but it would make for a nice second round matchup.

Habs lose to the Pens in 6 - Magic dies in conference finals.

If it actually happens this way, I want a book deal.

he's going to return eventually. Why postpone it if he is in game shape? You cannot protect your players from injury. It is a freak occurrence and in such a rough sport you wouldn't have a player on your bench if you worried too much.
