Guest The Future is coming

Wow this is intense

I had Canadiens in 5 in well that turned out great.

Really were not the same team we were in the season.

Our power play is not working at all.

The Kovalev line is not scoring enough goals and we just cant backcheck.

Im a long time fan of the Canadiens and this to me in my opinion is not the best playoff run the candiens have ever made

I have been, at the very least, positive about winning this series for games 1 through 6. However, this team is in dire trouble. I think several of us have realized THIS scenario was quite possible from the onset of game 5, period 2. We have been evenly matched or outplayed in every game since game 1. Montreal is not playing like a post-season team. Our top line isn't competitive enough against Boston's checking/battles, and the only bright spot from last night was Saku Koivu and Christopher Higgins, despite Koivu partially being at fault on two of the goals last night. At the very least, he came right back and helped tie the game with a GOOD forecheck (some of you may have forgotten that you top 2 lines can forecheck, as well).

Throw relativism out the window. "Three in a row! Boston can't beat us three in row." I have got news for you. This is the playoffs and the regular season doesn't matter. Three in a row? It's not three in a row. It's one! One more game. Nothing before, nothing after even matters. One game, and Boston CAN win. <_<

But so can Montreal! I have hope that Saku Koivu can lead us past the Bruins, and maybe, just maybe, Plekanec, Kostitsyn, and Kovalev can find their game together, or on different lines. ;)

Boston really has the momentum now. It is like the Bruins are in our head. If we lose game 7 I hope the fans at the Bell Centre will not boo our team. That is really bad for morale. Fans need to recognize that we finished first in the regular season. Non of the experts at the beginning of the season gave the Habs a chance to even make the playoffs. We are a young team that is learning.

Price cannot be blamed. He has been really good, despite only one weak performance.

Just one thing to say. The team is playing hard and is having to fight through ALOT of stuff that has been called through the regular season and is still being called in the other playoff series. The Bruins are getting away with constantly holding the habs back with sticks up around their stomachs and chests. Although I don't often like those phantom calls, I hate that everything changed when Cherry whined on HNIC and then Sinden shot off as well. Even Ron Maclean last night suggested that a possible off side goal didn't really matter since it was early on. When did the officiating start taking orders from these guys. Carboneau never complained once about officiating. The habs are a class organization.

the bruins have been controlling the game the last couple of nights

they control the puck in both ends of the ice and they control the flow of the game

they shut us down when we try to break out and they shut us down when we are in their zone...

They are killing us out there!

Grin and bear it,

give it paws;

no points in baring,

sharpened claws;

it's come to what it was '04,

and number 7's, the time to score!

Four years ago, this date,

or, thereabouts, we closed the gate,

to Bruins' hop to second round,

and, fortunately, we stood our ground.

Good fortune may be with us yet,

will anyone be pleased to make that bet?

hope spring's eternal in our game,

that we cannot let down our name!

GO HABS GO!

Yah, do the Jacques Lemaire thing -- go down the bench and tap 3 guys on the shoulder every shift (but coach, I just got off!! I need a breather! :D ).

There certainly may be something to it. Carbo's gotta try and get each of those guys going somehow.

Carbo should just play the tape of Higgins' 2nd goal over and over again to the players. Not too much to it. Koivu goes and gets the puck, the other two linemates skate hard into position and a couple of passes later, the puck's in the net.Time for the Habs to play the Bruins game: GO get the danged puck!!

____________________________________________

And, I think Carbo has pretty much ridden his Brise-horse into the ground at this point. He brings some pluses offensively, but he appears absolutely worn out at the defensive end. OB should be coming back in for Game 7.

Well the Bruins 4th goal sums up pretty much the series, Kovalev refused to take the hit to get the puck out. While our D has taking hits after hits, many forwards have shied away, creating a lack of scoring chances and in some cases, goals against.

Very disappointed in some players.

your point is very valid, except I would say the defense aren't much better at the moment. They are refusing to go into the corner first much of the time. The Bruins forwards have no such qualms. If they can get to the puck first, they'll do that and take their licks.

I had posted this in the other thread, but it really belongs here as it pertains to this series mostly...

Yes, I'm quoting myself, but I want to address the poins I had made back on April 6th...

I'm not much into games, so this thread is to discuss your predictions on how far we will go with the team that we have.

I've stated it in a few occasions so far this year, this team is not without reminding me of the Ottawa Senators of a few years ago when they turned the corner and became a very respectable franchise. We have speed, we have youth, and the future is very bright. What we have that the Sens didn't have (and still don't to this day) is solid goaltending in Price and Halak.

Here's what I like about this team for the playoffs:

  • we have tons of speed

Where is that speed? Why can't we force the Bruins into taking penalties using our speed in the offensive zone?

  • we have 7 players with 50 points or more

    Off those, Kovalev has 4 points (-3), Plekanec 3 points (-2), Higgins 2 points (+3), A.Kostitsyn 2 points (-4), Markov 1 point (-1), Streit 1 point (0) and Koivu played his first game with 2 points (+1).

  • we have 7 players with 15 goals or more, 4 of those have more than 25 goals

    See above...

  • we have the number one PP in the league

Maybe we should have the option of refusing penalties, as we seem to be more threatning at 5 on 5 with Smolinski's line or Lapierre's line on the ice...

What could be our downfall:
  • we don't have much playoffs' experience

Nothing we can change about this. The young guys need to gain that precious experience and the only way to do so is to play, to experience it first hand. My wish is that we can beat the Bruins to gain one more series' worth.

  • I have concerns about our grit

Aside from game one, when we came out hitting everything in sight, even injuring Chara, it's been our biggest downfall in this series.

  • like the old Sens, we have many Europeans and far from wanting to be racist, it has shown in playoffs' runs in the past that they sometimes find it very difficult comes playoffs

Our best line in this series has been Smolinski, Begin and Kostopoulos. 'Nuff said.

  • although our faceoffs' % has improved a bit, it still remains a low point and it can prove crucial in the playoffs

49.7% in the first 6 games, about the same as the season. Wouldn't have Fedorov or Peca helped a bit for the playoffs?

  • our PK with Begin is not the same as without him. Overall this season, it's been pretty bad

87.5% in the first 6 games, an improvement over the season.

And the X-Factors:
  • youth in general, meaning more energy in the young legs than in the old ones

Aside from Price in a few games and S.Kostitsyn, it's worked against us (inexperience)

  • a few of our players experienced the Calder Cup run last year in the AHL

    This hasn't shown so far.

  • Ryder looking to salvage an off season

    Very disappointing, a none factor.

  • Carey Price

Okay, not great, not the deciding factor in this series one way or another.

I think that we should be able to get out of the first round, but that's it for this year. If that's the case, it will be a very successful season, providing our young guys with the much needed playoffs' experience to move forward in years to come.

What's your take?

We haven't folded all year. We've always shown some resiliency and I still believe that we will get passed the Bruins and win game 7 on home ice. Afterall, that's the reason why we wanted to get the conference, to get home ice advantage. I'm expecting the fans to out-do themselves, to be a huge lift for a team that's been down the last few games.

GO HABS GO!!!

Either Cox and I think very much alike, or he's been on here reading all my posts. :P

(Again, Habs are not playing well because they overly concerned about hitting and not getting hit, and not concerned enough about skating and going and getting the puck.)

More of the same happened in Game 6. TWICE I saw Bruin players blow tires all by themselves, and the Hab player let the bruin get back, or play the puck from their knees on the way back up, instead of jumping in and least getting their stick on it.

The first one was Savard at mid-ice, and Lapierre (his first poor game all series) wouldn't step in and take the puck. Bruins scored on the play, as Sabard played the puck from his knees past Lapierre. Sorry sight.

Habs are playing scared hockey. They look like a bunch of ballerinas out there. They need to be the aggresors like they were all season vs Boston. Montreal if you hit Boston and skate to be 1st on the puck you will not loose. Lets get back to what we did in Game 1. I know Boston has mixed up the defensive system but we can do little things to chip pucks by them. Boston was 1st on the puck last night . They chipped by our defense and were getting there 1st .

Why is Montreal backing off the puck holder so much? We were on the puck all of game 1 and we kicked em big time now we are backing off and Boston is taking advantage. I will be in Montreal in 8 days and if Boston takes the habs I geuss I am not comming to a city full of excitment & electricity I will be comming back to 500,000 sadly dissapointed Fans. Bob Get these boys going. Somebody needs to kick some a....umm butt in that dressing room.

I know, that seemed to easy and it didn't take much!!!

Thats what we need to do to win and thats the only time i saw some hustle out of us all game long!

We need to use our speed and if that means us to beat them to the puck....then lets do that!

Well then, it all comes down to this. Tomorrow night we could be celebrating downtown, more out of relief than anything else mind you...or we could be mourning what would basically be one of the worst meltdowns in our team's esteemed history-and we really, really don't want that. But, I personally believe in this team, I have all along, and I'm just one of the many who has. So let's not count ourselves out just yet. The Bruins turned it on BIG TIME in this series. Who says we can't rev up the intensity, the speed, the skill for this, "Le Match Ultime", and Yvon Pednault calls it. We're not done yet. Saku is back and you could tell the second line was back in action. Boston will have to watch two lines now, and if Kovy wakes up...well they better watch out.

All we need to win this game is solid defense, which will lead to good play by Price, which will lead to scoring chances. And we've seen that Tim Thomas is NOT stealing games. He's been lucky-Game 5, Kovy scores. 1-0 Habs. Kovy gets another chance, beats Thomas five-hole and the puck hits the post. Imagine we go up 2-0 there, were not having this conversation, we'd be discussing our second round opponent. But it ain't over 'till its over. Now its really gut check time. Starts from the top-Carbo and the assistans need to come up with a gameplan that will work-and quite frankly I think they had it right when Higgins scored that fourth goal. You all saw it so I won't go into details. Then they have 2 days to implement it. We also need to do something, anything to get the powerplay going. Even if we only get one powerplay goal tomorow it would make a huge difference. The defense also needs to step it up, its been sloppy and disapointing. Finally, motivate the players, light a fire under them.

Then it comes down to the veterans. Koivu, Kovalev, Markov, Hamrlik, Smolinski, Dandenault. These guys, especially Kovy, need to find it in them to bring out there best game of the season-not the series, the season.

Finaly the young guys need to come out hungry. There young and good, they've had 6 games to get a feel for this, now its time to bring it.

And last but not least, it would be nice if The Brick Wall of Montreal came up. Mr.Price? :)

Habs in 7...GO HABS GO
