I live about 5-10 minutes from the Colisée, couldn't be at the game but I'll try to watch a couple this week, especially from the russian team (gossip: they are quite the party team in QC City..), one of my friend is covering the tournament and apparently both Kostsytsin were playing on the point during the PP early in the game. Think i'll try to go to the Czech game if Plekanec joins

Huet was at the fan fest yesterday I think, signed autographed for more than an hour after being scheduled for a 45 minutes appearance. Patrice Bergeron was there before, heard on radio that Mats Naslund could be there for a session as well (and Patrick Elias might be plan B ) and Antoine Vermette later this week, they are trying to get 1 player every day... aside from that it's great around here, lots of people from the participating countries, Denmark as quite a delegation and are making some noise! Don't remember if it was them or another country crowd that stole the show with their beer drinking during the weekend...

anyway let's get back to hockey

Tomas Plekanec - Czech Republic

Andrei Kostitsyn, Sergei Kostitsyn, and Mikhail Grabovsky - Belarus

Saku Koivu - Finland

Maybe Higgins and Komi will join the USA team...The team is hoping but will Mike and Chris go ? Hope not xD It'll be esier for Canadaa if they don't come !

I would looove to see some game but I can't...It's bad...

by the way, 2 out of 3 goalie from the russian team are hurt, this morning our local goalie from the QMJHL was asked to participate in their practice, they must be hoping as heck that Nabokov joins them

Yah, they hope but with the game he play for the Sharks...He'll need some rest ..

Is there only Canada games shown on TV?

i believe tsn and rds only show canada until the elimination round, if not the medal round but i'm not sure. there is a package you can buy to watch the games online though.

i'd be surprised if canada's channels didn't pick up more games considering the tournie is on our continent but i haven't heard anything to that effect.

gearing for russia vs. denmark 1pm. not sure if it's much of a contest. i guess it'll depend on how well the goalies hold up.

markov only joins the team today and nabokov only arrives thurs. according to the iihf website

I'm watching now. Markov is indeed not there yet, he'll play Friday.

So far it's hard to tell how things go, 3rd penalty called at the 6 minutes mark. I'd have expected more 'wow factor' from Russia but it still remains to happen. Then again, this is only qualifying round so I guess we'll see later this weekend.

Ovechkin on the same line with Semin and Fedorov

well, Markov and Tyutin aren't eligible to play until the next round starts on Thursday and since Nabokov apparently isn't in Quebec City yet, he can't be registered for this game... the best thing about the game is the Russians going with no back-up goalie!!!

they have dressed their injured goalie as backup

Now 1-0 Russia, Max Afinogenov scored and he was a healthy scratch yesterday.

Shots 12-1 at the 13th minute mark, the red machine is switched at on, they're flying out there ... but they'r not able to put it in. (sound familiar? )

Another good one by the announcer: "the zamboni will only have to work in the denmark zone between periods"

yes, but they aren't even going to consider letting him play, are they? they just dressed him because the IIHF Rules require them to have two goalies dressed... if their goalie goes down, they'll probably take the slowest/bravest/dumbest defenseman they have and suit him up :)

well the way the game is going now, if their goalie gets injured , it's because he hit himself or something because the puck sure doesn't go anywhere near him

Markov and Tyutin are not even eligibile to play until the next round starts on Thursday... and Nabokov couldn't get to Quebec City in time to be registered -- he had to be there two hours before game time to qualify...

I think the Caps line has been together for the whole tournament...

Radulov and Afinogenov are taking turns as the extra forward -- who sits out in the Russian system, preserving the 5-man units... which explains why they went with two defensemen as the late additions and not Kovalev -- they already have an extra forward but are short a defenseman and have been double shifting to cover the deficiency, they will now have an extra D as well...

maybe he'll eat a bad orange during the intermission

if it's such a one-sided game, I wonder if they would risk letting Eremenko play/stand basically on one leg if he's less injured than Biryukov if he got injured as well...

they'd never get away with it with NHL players because of the insurance issues, but since these are non-NHL goalies, maybe they'd take advantage of them and put them at risk anyway...
