Habsology
Here's my top 10 (not exactly a wish-list, but players who I think would fit in): 1. Straka - skates hard. Plays on the PK AND the PP. Would be awesome with Kovi. 2. Jagr - big and strong with wicked moves 3. Rozsival - great defenseman 4. Hossa - no explanation necessary 5. Gratton - big, tough, and good hands 6. Huselius - he would fit in well with our system 7. Brad Stuart - good stay at home D 8. Rolston - Every team needs a booming shot from the point! 9. Demitra - great setter-upper 10. Commodore - big defenseman There are other superstars better than the ones I listed. However, I don't think that they'd sign with us (example: Sundin)

Habsology
Why does everyone want Matt Cooke? I know he's a gritty guy and all, but he was basically useless in Vancouver, and I didn't see him do much in Washington either....

JHaul
Why does everyone want Matt Cooke? I know he's a gritty guy and all, but he was basically useless in Vancouver, and I didn't see him do much in Washington either.... Perhaps its just a matter of more "realistic" thinking? I mean, we might actually have a chance to land a guy like Cooke, whereas we haven't had much luck bringing in the really BIG names in recent history. gracie12
Interesting thread. Id actually be pretty surprised if we add more than 2 people. Seems to me these are the areas people will suggest we need to fix: 1) A Checking Line forward. 2) A top 4 defensman 3) A veteran Backup Goalie 4) A top 6 (preferably top 3) forward You could argue that we dont really need #1 - although most of our grinders are so young that having someone like Bonk, Smolinski, Juneau etc seems like its still important at this point. If we find the right third line guy then Begin & Lapierre can play within their abilities (4th line) and Chips doesnt get rushed. You could certainly argue that another top 4 defensman would be nice. However, Gainey seems content to leave this be - he's even said so publicly - and why not? With Hammer, Markov & Komi as our top 3, we're set for some time. Add in the development of Gorges, Obyrne and some of our even younger talent (Valentenko, Emelin, Subban?) and it would seem it would be silly to waste valuable cap space on a position we're more or less strong at. You could also argue an older goalie could help things. Gainey has made it very clear Price/Halak is the name of the game indefinitely. I dont see any change in that plan. So basically that leave my point #4. This is where I think Gainey is likely to make his move. But who is available - and at what cost will they come. Is it worth dishing out the $10m Hossa will likely get? If it were me, id only consider 2 options: 1) Trade for someone already signed 2) Sign a guy who can still have some impact but will only be looking for 1 or 2 years. Id be looking hard at guys like Jagr, Sundin and even Demitra. We're not going to sign some young guy who will be around for a decade as an UFA but someone who can help out for a year or 2 and help teach our kids is just what the doctor ordered. hockey151
My top 10 rfa/ufa's as of now would be this...hossa and jagr are given i have a couple surprises in here you boys will prolly chew me up for so ill add a lil explanation so youz don't think im crazy. 1. Marian Hossa (It's obvious why we want this guy he's the impact forward ripe age that we want for our top line.) 2. Jaromir Jagr (True leader still has alot of good hockey left in him ill take hossa over him, because i want a more secure future but Jagr da better player) 3. Ladislav Nagy(He's a sleeper, great player but plagued with injuries he's a bit of a risk but i beleive he will expect a pay cut he would be a steal) 4. Steve Bernier (This kid is 22 and can score like Ryder when ryder could score he a hybrid between higgins and ryder shud try for him) 5. Mike Commodore (We need a cheap defencemen who is a big body presence like Komisarek, clear up sum space in front of the net and lay down some heavy hits he's the best bang for our buck..forget campbell we dont need 3 defencemen makin over 5 millz) 6. Marcus Naslund (Still has good hockey left in him smart player and he's a proven leader good player to grab i think he's done wit canucks) 7. Bobby Holik (we need a good checking line centre and he is the guy to centre Begin and T.K, he's a big guy good centre can throw his weight around good price) 8. Sergei Federov (another smart centre he'll be a bargain to anyone that grabs him) 9. R.J Umberger or Jeff Carter (who knows where these kids want to be any one of them would fit in wiht or team) 10. Corey Perry (the ducks priority is signin this kid and if they dont we should grab him up altho i like Bernier better)

Just kidding.... May I add that REASONS should be added as to why they are your picks i.e. Who they play with, what role they fill, etc.. As the post before me does. Johnyc
I have complied a list of potential UFA's which might be considered: Daymond Langkow © 30 - Potential second line player Brad Winchester © 26 - Fourth line player, grinder, middle weight Dan Ellis (G) 27 - In the event we do not retain Halak Darcy Hordichuk (LW) 26 - Fourth line role, legit heavyweight Chris Kelly © 26 - Responsible penalty killer, potential third line player Ty Conklin (G) 31 - Again, in the event Halak is not re-signed Georges Laraque (RW) 30 - Fourth line role player, BGL holds the heavyweight title Ryan Malone (LW) 27 - Legit second line player, added aggression and size Brian Campbell (D) 28 - Puck moving defencemen, quarterback on powerplay Chris Gratton © 31 - Third line player, great size and experience If I was to tender an offer sheet to a RFA, I would also include Corey Perry. Otherwise, I feel we have the resources within the organization to address other needs. Our current roster can score goals, but can use an improved penalty kill unit (see Chris Kelly), more size (Chris Gratton, insert a fourth line player above) and a PP defencemen (Brian Campbell). Otherwise the players noted above are not over the age of 31 and have size and skill which could help improve our current roster. I look forward to any questions or comments. Thanks, Johnyc

bailey1
2. Mark Streit (2-3 year deal 0.850 million) Are you serious? 2.5-million for 3 years... "Yea, thanks Mark. You played well, but only in the regular season. Here's an extra 250K to your salary. Good job." This is what Mark's going to do if he gets an offer like that... Streit deserves double what he's getting now + more!!! 1.8-2.4-million
