mortwinkler
Anyone here watch any racing? I used to tune into the Indy 500, for a bit at the beginning and a bit at the end, just to keep updated with who won and whatnot. This year was actually the first time I've watched the whole Indy and I'm totally hooked. Last weekend I watched the Milwalk race and this weekend is a race also... I've also tried to get into some NASCAR, but I didn't find it as exciting. The crashes are a lot cooler, but they look really slow. I haven't really watched much F1 racing or drag racing... The summer months are long, I need to fill the void of not having the Habs. Just curious as to if anyone else is into the racing.
habsforevernomatterwhat
F1s in town. I know a lot of people who are going. Not going personally, though
mortwinkler
Indy's coming out to Edmonton very soon. I'd like to go, but I'll have to see what the schedule is for work and if tickets are still available.
29Dryden29
F1 AMA and World Superbike and MOTO GP are the only motorsports I actually watch with any regularity. I will also watch the Le Mans series when I find it on TV.
Hemsky83_09
I love Nascar been to a few races, and I've had an awesome time. Don't let TV fool you, those cars are flying, over 200mph on the back stretch at Daytona, and Talledega.
rosalie52
Have a nice recovery, Felipe Massa.
Dintrox12
Have a nice recovery, Felipe Massa. That was a nasty accident. Well Ferrari has found a replacement for Felipe, Michael Schumacher is stepping in. The 7 time F1 champ is subbing for Massa. This should be interesting. Rocket-1
The future doesn't look so bright for Massa unfortunately.... he got that spring right in the eye, god knows if he'll ever make a full recovery (probably not unfortunately) I wish him the best, but i don't expect to see him back anytime soon.... or hardly ever. You know , back when I lived in central New York, I didn't watch any racing and just couldn't get into it......but then I moved to Florida and of course just about EVERYONE down here is BIG into NASCAR so after years and years I finally started to watch it and I like it. I don't watch it every week but I follow it and watch when I can.....find myself rooting for Tony Stewart...
swimmerpuck
I started watching F1 about 10 years ago when it would be on TV every Sunday morning. At the time it was all tape delayed. Maybe it still is as I honestly don't know. Then I got into NASCAR. I've always found the business/marketing aspect of sports to be just as interesting as the spectating of the event itself. Hence through mutual friends I ended up helping a Nascar driver's wife with a fan club. It turned out to be quite interesting. Then I started to solicit sponsorship from companies in my industry. I didn't succeed but learned a few things along the way and did generate some interest. I don't watch NASCAR near as much because as much as I do like the business part of it, it's gotten too commercialized for my liking. LOL Actually years ago you could count on races being on Sunday afternoons. Half the time I don't know when they are on TV. I still follow racing to date, just not as much as I once did. I still like going to races because there is nothing like sitting a couple of rows up at say Bristol and feeling the marbles (rubber) hit your face. And watching the speed of cars live is truly amazing. This thread is about auto racing but I like anything that's a race: snowmobiles, swimming, Tour de France, track, horsies, doesn't much matter. The technology in auto racing though is mesmerizing. To go to Montreal and see an auto race and a hockey game in the same weekend would be awesome. Dintrox12
Looks Schumacher will be unable to race in F1 due to issues from a motorcycle accident earlier this year. But good news, the mayor of montreal has reached a tentative deal with formula one. http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/story/?id=287597 So though date isn't set yet, Montreal will host the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles - Villeneuve next year.
