chrisjamessauve
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=241126&...os=topStory_nhl Wow. Does this mean the Rangers will fold (I can never see that happen), or will they get new owners and move out of the historic Madison Square Garden? This story will get even more interesting as the season opener nears.

mortwinkler
I don't really care what happens to the Rangers...watching their games vs. the Habs is nearly as boring as New Jersey games. If they fold, that'd be fine, but if they're moving them, then hopefully they'll be north of the border. However, with Bettman in charge, we'll probably see a third team in Florida or a fourth team in California before we see a seventh team in Canada. 29Dryden29
I am hoping this gives some other owners the jewels to stand up to Butthead and his stupid agenda and mismanagement of the NHL and punt his sorry arse out of the game.
tmash
The Rangers will neither fold nor move. This is just the NHL trying to prove they aren't backing down. The Rangers are one of the most profitable teams in the league: they aren't moving. New ownership will keep the team in New York.

Telly_39_s_1
As much as I dislike the Rangers, if they got a new owner and moved, it would be a great shame to see an Original Six team move out of the city that was their home for over seventy years. JHaul
I think this paragraph from that article is key: The league said such a breach can lead to disciplinary proceedings in which a vote of three-quarters of the members of the league can decide to issue fines, suspend or terminate membership in the league, order a sale of the club to a new owner or suspend or expel individuals involved in the team's management. Personally, I can't see 3/4 of the other owners voting to kick MSG out of the league. What gain could there possibly be from stabbing a fellow owner in the back? tmash
But don't the current owners also own MSG? Okay, they could move arenas, but they won't move to a new city. It would be like flushing millions of dollars down the toilet.

What gain could there possibly be from stabbing a fellow owner in the back? A very profitable, influential owner at that. At most MSG gets fined. If they do win the court case it will have some interesting ramifications throughout the league. Personally I don't like the NHL being in charge of merchandising as there's been a proliferation of Hab-branded crap. Nothing like crass commercialism! Randy15
The Rangers will neither fold nor move. This is just the NHL trying to prove they aren't backing down. The Rangers are one of the most profitable teams in the league: they aren't moving. New ownership will keep the team in New York. QFT. I mean, the Rangers HANDS DOWN have the most passionate fan base in the States and are located in the #1 market. More than the Wings, Sharks, Avs...you name it. They'd never move out of MSG, let alone the city. Dolan as owner of MSG will be forced to lease the building to the next Rangers' ownership, and that is the worst case scenario for Mr. Dolan. This is simple hardball between men in suits. Dolan is very rich, and probably thinks about as much about Bettman as most members of this forum, thus he's willing to lob a few shots over at the commissioner. He can take Bettman on because should he ever be forced to sell the team, it would be like one of us selling off our old mountain bike -- it would make no dent in his financial possessions.
