babinator77
we don't have exclusive rights to sundin. as far as i know we've only been given permission to talk to him. no?
TheRightPrice
No... Hes a speed demon with incredible stick handling and a bullet shot. He played on a defensive line in Calgary and carried the scoring on their second unit. That is what some people don't understand. He played on a pretty defensive type team. They weren't offensively amazing or anything. They only scored 2 more goals than they gave up. He has a chance to come into this VERY good offense and be able to produce in the fast pace style. I'm quite happy with this pick up. Sundin would just make it unreal.

THE_EQUALIZER
...Plus it beats me saying who the hell was that we drafted and ranting about it for an hour like I usually do on draft day. That actually made me laugh out loud .

ohboy
I would be willing to bet it is more than a mid level pick Possibly. Its hard to tell because its only the difference of 1 month. It depends on what the difference in salary that month would make. My guess is very little..
Hemsky83_09
It means that we are allowed to talk to him and come to terms with a contract. Basically see what it would cost to sign him here in Montreal. If Sundin decides to sign with us then we have already negotiated with Toronto what we would give them in return. Most likely a mid level draft pick. Did you not just see what Fletcher said on TSN? I gave the Habs exclusive rights until July 1st and thats it. You don't give that permission with out getting something in return up front. Unless as just mentioned, respect between Bob and Cliff.

I'm sure they know what we could give them IF we would to come to terms with Mats, and were happy with that possible compensation.

Nutrasweetdaddy
I'm sorry but a first and second round pick for a rental player (UFA after next season) is bad. A 1st and 2nd for Alex bleepin Tanguay is atrocious. What a horrible deal. BG has yet another bad trade. Arggggh! Tanguay isn't horrible (like Niinimaa), but considering his situation (contractually and the fact that he's coming off of a sub par season) that price is way Way WAY too high! Yeah, no Toronto knows they are losing Sundin. By giving the rights to a team that is eager to sign Sundin they put themselves in a potential position to actually get something in return instead of losing him for nothing. Dont fool yourself into thinking that Cliff is doing us a favour. Bob has already agreed to a potential trade with Toronto that is pending a contract agreement with Sundin.
