contract expires in 2009.

are you sure? i thought it was 2010.

to all those who said tanguay didn't want to play here:

Robert Sauvé on RDS: He looks about as excited as Gainey. Says Tanguay waived his no-trade for certain teams, including Montreal. Tanguay didn't like Calgary's style and will be more at home with a skating team like the Canadiens

The 2nd round pick we gave up, is it ours or the pick we got from the Caps?

I THINK Washington's pick was for next year.

Thanks for that. He should fit in to our fast pace VERY nicely.

Did Schenn really say Toronto was Canadas team?

yes he did.

We might of lost the 25th pick, however all the players at that spot were shaky at best. With Timmins we can get quality at late stages of the draft (which is the best we can hope for now). And i still believe e can get Sundin as well.

Getting a player like Tanguay at the deadline would cost even more. Now you get a full season of him with maybe a chance to lock him up.

Take out that maybe part and all you have is Alex Tanguay for one year. As great as we've been drafting is that really worth what Trevor Timmins and company could have done with those two picks? Will this make us a better team this season? I'd have to say "yes, almost certainly". It's the long run that I'm thinking about.

I think picking up tanguay was a great deal. he should fit in nicely with plekanec and kovalev. i think then andrei k. can drop to the second line with sergei and koivu. i think that way we would still have good to great chemistry all around and maintain a great team. if price and halak get better, we keep komisarek and he gets better, we can afford to lose a couple good players in the offseason, as long as we pick up at least one good player to make up for it. i think gainey will play the rest of the draft with only a minor trade if he trades at all. With tanguay in the lineup, i am really looking forward to next year. We are in great shape.

just a sidebar-does anybody else think maybe the lightning should have picked up a good goalie first overall, since they have enough offense already? last i knew thare was a good european goalie.

Again I ask, WHO could we have realistically drafted that, with reasonable chance, may have been able to play better than Tanguay?

Isnt he expected to be picked outside the first round though?

this draft wasn't deep enough for me to be concerned. we're already stacked with prospects. giving up two for tanguay is definitely worth it because as you said, we're a better team today because of this move. :D
