Nutrasweetdaddy
Bob feels the time is now !!! I disagree with that mentality. It's not a question of the time is now, tomorrow, next year, etc. It's a matter of paying too much. If you're hungry do you go to McDonalds and say "the time is now, give me a Big Mac for $200"? Also, I'm not so sure that the time is now. Yes we finished first in the East, but we also barely got out of the first round, and then got clobbered in the second round by the team that finished seventh in the east. Tanguay will most likely play on the second line. Do you think that he's going to be such a huge improvement over Sergei K that we've got the cup in the bag? If we'd made a signing like Sundin that filled a huge hole for our needs as a team, then I'd agree that we had a strong enough shot at the cup to say now's the time. But since we haven't made any such signings, we can't say that......and besides my major gripe is the price we paid.
ohboy
the time is now, were young, were fast and for the most part we have alot of energy... tanguay is a quite guy who can skate and shoot like hell he can only help One thing ive noticed about Tanguay as well is that he is notorious for being the "backup scorer". In other words hes never really been the go to guy but he is a phenominal depth scorer. Which is what we wanna use him for right?

ohboy
We dont need him anymore. Someone took his place. What? I was asking what his value is to other teams. Im not sure what he is worth to another team desperate for a speedy forward.

There is nothing saying Bob is done yet and that a Sundin or someone else will be on our team come fall. I read on canada.com an interview with Bob where he said that he felt we have enough youth to move some and get some impact players. He feels the team is at the point that we can afford to pay the price. I trust he knows the situation better than I do. If I can find the article again I will post the link. Nutrasweetdaddy
Again I ask, WHO could we have realistically drafted that, with reasonable chance, may have been able to play better than Tanguay? Are you suggesting that with those two picks they couldn't have drafted players that will play more than 82 games for us? Are you suggesting that with our draft team's established draft record that we couldn't have gotten solid players with those two picks? They've done it with picks beyond 200, I'm pretty sure they could do it with #25. It's not about how Tanguay will help us this season it's about what we paid to get him for one season. . babinator77
tanguay was just interviewed on rds and take it for what it's worth (he has no choice now) but he said (i'm paraphrasing): he said there was no way he would waive his ntc except for montreal, he thanks calgary which he says he a great organization but which wasn't for him anymore, and says that he'S VERY happy to end up in montreal. And during his time on the first line (which he was flipped between that and the second line for a couple years) he was not a primary scorer. That was Sakic, Forsberg, and more comparrable Heyduk. He has always been a scorer but not a primary scorer like that of Ryder or an equivalent player. And frankly he is a better player than Ryder. Im saying that he will be a huge boost to our scoring without any enormous pressure.

Thanks for digging for the quote for me. I have to disagree though. I'm not getting nutty because we traded picks, I'm just frustrated because we're giving up too much. Our guys draft great at the table. With a 1st and 2nd pick it's a pretty good chance that they could have landed guys that will develo into regular roster players in time. I think that's too much to give up for one season of Alex T. Just because other teams throw away their riches for a quick fix, doesn't mean that it's a good idea and we should follow suit. skins
Tanguay ET LE BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sounds nice. I like the ring of that. The only way to make it better would be to have sundin fight for the puck behind the net and dishing it in the front to a speeding Tangauy. Im suggesting that you cannot recommend a better player to pick up with those picks. Who would we have drafted at number 25? What are the chances that player would do more for this club than Tanguay will? Whats the chance that player pans out and, assuming they like playing for Montreal, outplays Tanguay? And what reason do you have to believe that Tanguay wont play more than 1 season with the Habs? Im sure that you, as I have, noticed several posts quoting Tanguay that he would love to play for Montreal.
Nutrasweetdaddy
Here's something else for everyone to chew on...... We've got arguably the best scouting/developing staff in the league right now. Do you think they're going to stick around in Montreal if BG continues to dump picks for quick fixes? Do you think that other GMs aren't eyeballing the members of our scouting department? Their contracts run out just like the players. Having said that: We can't take it for granted that we're going to have these great guys scouting and drafting for us forever. Forget the whole "the future is now" stuff. You don't bench a guy who is hitting homeruns for you left and right. If you have to trade something, then trade one of our established prospects. That's worth more to a team than taking a gamble on a 17 year old kid.

Bob would have asked them that with the picks they had if the could draft something that could become better. If Timmins felt he had a better prospect, Bob would have kept the picks. Timmins is on record saying that this draft wasn't as deep as everyone seems to think. If they strongly felt that they could've drafted a player at 25 that woud've been an impact player, you can bet they would not of made this trade.
