$5.375 million is a huge cap hit. If you all want to talk about landing a big fish, we may not be able to now that we're paying him all of that. We may also lose Streit for the same reasons.

Two guys who won't be back

Ryder $ 2.9 m

Smolinksi $ 2 m

Total $ 4.9 .............add $ 475,000 in pocket change and you have his salary covered

I'm totally with you with Ryder. He'll tie himself to a bumper and get dragged out of Montreal if that is what it takes. LOL

I'm not sure about Smoke though. I think it will depend on whether or not he thinks he'll have a regular spot or not next year. If it wasn't for that, my gut says he'd stay.

Stefanovich and Staal are 2nd round notables

It will depend on whether Montreal offers him a contract or if they think Chipchura is ready

Thats whats nice about this draft. More that 32 players were good this season. Its almost certian that there will be a couple outstanding catches in the draft... Maybe not, but if thats the case its kinda a cruddy draft.

Hey everyone. Sorry if I'm getting moody. I'm in NY and can't watch the draft. I had planned on watching it online like I did last year, but the only site (I can find) that is offering it is TSN.ca and they aren't allowing people to see it outside of Canada.

This sucks. I could cry.

that does suck. if it's any consolation i got bored and changed the channel.

This management team got this far because BG let Andre's team do their job at the draft table. The result has been some great players drafted and this team's turn around.

I don't have time to open this can of worms (my brother should be arriving soon from NJ :) ) ....but BG doesn't have as much to do with this teams success as many of you would like to believe.

i'm fully aware of what savard brought to our team and that gainey made mistakes in not listening to him but we don't know that that's still the case. i highly doubt timmins, who has proven his worth in his own right, is ready to jump ship over one traded first round pick in a draft that wasn't as beneficial to us. not to mention timmins' work is hardly done at this draft.

i just don't see how we've traded away our future by acquiring a great complimentary player in tanguay who adds depth to a strong team - especially in the playoffs. the price might have been too high if gainey had gone after him in the market next season and it sounds like he would have. as of right now, he's a one year risk. i think that's more than worth it.

thats right its for one year, no commitments here.... and Bob would not have done this deal if there was lets say 3 years left on his contract

Being a good GM is more than just drafting folks.

Andre Savard himself knew as much when he told his boss he was resigning and that he should go out and get Bob Gainey to be the GM.

Yes Andre got mad at Bob and left, but a good GM makes tough decisions that are not always popular for the benefit of the team.

IN BOB I TRUST !!!

Well one thing that we can all agree on is that whatever the cost, we'll have a stronger team on the ice next year......well if we can hold onto Streit..............sorry, that's the closest I can come to optimism right now. LOL

True, tough decisions are involved and you can't make everyone happy. But I'd think that as a former GM himself Andre would understand that. As upset as he was, I'm thinking there was more to it. .....................................oh well, I guess we'll never know.

Anyways, great talking with you all. Thanks for helping me feel like I was part of it, and helping me keep my sanity.

Goodnight all.

Go Habs Go!

:D i'll take it! and think about it - we're a better team, we have exclusive negotiating rights to sundin, and the analysis in here is better than the commentating and bettman on tv. this is a good day!
