I cant remember what# he wears? #18???

welcome to Montreal Alex!

Tanguay wore #40 in Calgary and #18 in Colorado.

The 40 is worn by Lapierre and the 18 is retired in honor of Serge Savard.

It's actually a shame that Ryders form took a dive and he isnt likely to be here next season, it would have been great to have had him at his best on a line Tanguay - Koivu - Ryder, he could have been the scorer for two great playmakers but alas it looks unlikely.

I think we'll have to wait and see what the rest of the off season brings to our team before we have an idea of what the lines will look like.

“I couldn’t be happier about coming to Montreal,” admitted Tanguay, who helped lead the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup in 2001. “With my no-trade clause I could have said no, but I really want to play for the Canadiens. I know how strong a team we have and that I won’t have to be Mario Lemieux or even Guy Lafleur. I hoping to contribute to getting this team to the next level.”

The guy dropped his NTC to come here!!! He's officially my favourite player on the ice starting this season!! :P

I think he would've gone to Columbus to escape the thrashing hes been getting from Calgary fans and media.

Here won't be any better(people are already bashing him) , but he's in a better situation to suceed.

Agreed.

I'm dealing with this trade better than the last one, shocker that it was.

The 25th pick wouldn't help the Centennial Campaign much. I'll take Tanguay's experience and apparent commitment over another egg in the basket any day right now.

No contest.

GO HABS GO!

(who says summer's not exciting?)

ps - anyone else giddy about the fact that 'suddenly' Montreal is worth thinking about playing for (Sundin?!?!?)

GO HABS GO!

(again and forever)

Tanguay is a tremendous addition to the team and came at a bargain price in my opinion. I never liked Sundin in Toronto but he sure would good in Montreal at centre, wouldn't he? I only hope that we don't lose O'Bryne, Gorges, Lats, Chipchura or any other roster player to Toronto as compensation. I propose Corey Locke would be a good fit for the Leafs, he's from the area and I really don't see him making the Habs.

I do think however, that it appears Streit will be leaving as he may have become unaffordable especially if BG has to fit Tanguay and Sundin under the salary cap with the already signed players and still have room to sign the UFAs on the team. A Kosititsyn is going to command at least 4.5M to 5M a season and will probably try sign a 2 year deal so as to match up with his younger brother. Halak isn't going to be cheap either, but he could be traded for another young prospect if BG can sign an experienced backup - perhaps Thibault might come back to the fold.

I am so anxious for the season to begin - no pressure but I want to see the 25th cup next year!

Actually, I see Tanguay playing with Saku. Why break up our top line from last year? This is the best winger Saku will have had since Mark Recchi!
This is what I'd like to see (although I realize a player may be going back to T.O. for Sundin):

MiG54-Sundin-AK27

Tanguay-Koivu-AK46

Higgins-Pleks-SK74

Stewart-Lapierre-Kostopolous

Platoon: D'Agostini,Lats, Chips, Begin

(THREE (not two) scary fast-skating scoring lines). Let's see how the other teams like them apples.

(Note to self on Grabs: two of the first-round forward picks yesterday were 159lbs. and 162 lbs. respectively, both 5'8" -- welcome to the new NHL!) ;)

Look, in his first year in Calgary he put up 81 points! The man can play. This past season, he was playing in Keenan's system in a two-way capacity seeing very little power-play time and still managed 58 points. The Flames have no offense outside of Iginla. We, on the other hand, led the league in goals scored last year and had 7 players with 50+ points. Tanguay will do fine here, because the onus won't be on him to do all the scoring.

Welcome Alex!!!

This is a fine addition to our Habs and it will be interesting to see who he will play with and who will be relegated to third/fourth line duties to make room for him. If others are added to the mix (Sundin? other UFA's) it gets even more interesting for Alex and the team. Alex could be a great addition to an already very potent powerplay.

I only hope that he is handled appropriately an can regain his form from the days playing with Joe Sakic.
