Johnny_rudeboy
Danny Kristo, F The Edina, MN product played with the USNTDP Under-18 squad last season. In 47 games he scored 18 goals and added 13 assists. “Danny plays a game in line with the new style of the National Hockey League. He has great skating ability and he gets on the puck quickly,” Timmins explained. “Some people say they’re not sure of his hockey sense and that he’s always high tempo. “We feel that’s a product of the system that he plays in. We did our research and looking back in history, he’s proven that he’s very skilled and showed that back in high school.” Kristo, who just turned 18 three days before the draft, is committed to the University of North Dakota, but still has one more year of high school development before making that jump. “We like his development path, but that’s not why we picked him,” Timmins said. “We really liked the player and the [fact that the club retains his rights longer while he’s in college] is a bonus.” Source: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/1046...8_draft_review/
bloodbath
14. (NR) Danny Kristo, F, 18 Obtained 2nd round, 56th overall, 2008 Although the Canadiens ended up without a first-round selection in the 2008 NHL entry draft, it's safe to say they're delighted with their haul. While the acquisition of Alex Tanguay got the most immediate response, Kristo's addition could prove to be the biggest steal long-term. Kristo still has one more year of high school development ahead of him, even before breaking into the collegiate ranks (he's committed to the University of North Dakota). He's a high-motor player who skates like the wind and has a nose for the puck. In 47 games with the USNTDP Under-18 squad, Kristo netted 18 goals and added 13 assists. A young 18 (his birthday was just three days before the draft), it will be a few years before Kristo makes it -- but the club firmly believes that it will be well worth the wait. Sounds good for a 2nd round draft choice
DA_Champion
you're really already comparing him to patches? Is kristo really that good? Wow. I haven't read up much on him but i doubt he's already touted as highly as paccioretty, or he would have been taken much sooner. Max Pacioretty is two development years ahead of Danny Kristo, having been born november 1988, as oppposed to Kristo who was apparently born in june 1990 (since he turned 18 just before the draft). Pacioretty isn't merely ahead of now, he was ahead of Kristo as Kristo is now when he was drafted a year ago. Additionally Pacioretty is a 6"3 power forward and Kristo is a 5"11 two way player. It's a false comparison. Kristo was clearly drafted as a high risk project I think. So far as good...
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
"Looks like Trevor Timmins and his staff found another gem. Courtesy of Cory Kornelsen, editor of McKeen's Hockey, this assessment of Danny Kristo. The Canadiens first pick (second round, 56th overall) in the June draft, Kristo – a 5'9", 180-pound native of Edina, Minn. who turned 18 a few days before the draft – is playing RW for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL and will be going to the University of North Dakota next season.. With Patrick Marleau-like speed, Kristo has the real potential of tearing up the USHL .. has phenomenal speed, generated even though he is slightly upright in his skating .. has good acceleration with the puck and can beat the best USHL defensemen wide with his speed with seeming ease and drive the net, but typically does so after having built up some momentum through the neutral zone .. a smooth stickhandler who handles the puck with confidence, because he knows it'll stay on his stick .. adept at drawing the puck back into his body with toe drags .. demonstrates excellent agility with tight, quick circles and pivots with the puck in order to ditch opponents .. is almost like a running back in some of the shiftiness and shuffles he can display and does not always rely on his pure speed .. soft hands for fielding passes and quickly transitioning to shots .. has a hard wristshot and can fire it in stride .. passing game was inconsistent, and did not demonstrate he has a natural finishing ability, either .. more adept at skating the puck than distributing, and teammates would be wise to trail for the rebound opportunities he'll create all season .. in 2007-08, he scored 21 goals and 17 assists in 55 games for USNTDP U-18 .. committed to University of North Dakota .. 2008 USHL Fall Classic stats: 3-1-3-4, 2 pim. Additional Comments by Max Giese Arguably the most impressive player at the Fall Classic .. like a racecar, Kristo is explosive and loves speed .. has lightning quick feet with the ability to accelerate by multiple opponents easily at this level .. exciting in one-on-one situations with quick hands and commanding lateral bursts of speed that keep defenders guessing .. his bread and butter is gaining a head of stream through the neutral zone before attacking defenders with every intention of shooting the puck .. can release his quick and accurate shot at full flight .. his playmaking skills leave room for improvement, as he doesn't utilize his linemates well .. needs to develop his lower gears and manufacture more offense from deep within the opponent's zone .. defensively, he has a great stick in traffic and is always buzzing around the puck .. an effective penalty killer that once nearly killed a penalty all on his own by holding onto the puck and skating laps around the opponents multiple times .. fearless and seemingly finds another gear of speed before absorbing a hit so he can slide through and retain possession .. not big and obviously in need of more strength, but he has a great work ethic and is rarely taken off his feet .. a dominant player that should be in the NCAA right now." fourtrax
Heh, was just coming here to post the same thing, but jennifer beat me to it. Though it will be a few years before we'll really get a sense of Kristo's NHL future, this scouting report is a very good sign. I must admit that I'd forgotten about Kristo, but evidently Timmins has done his job well, once again.
Johnny_rudeboy
Current Report: In seven games this season he leads the team with a -3 rating, has 33 shots on net and 1 goal to show for it - a 3% shooting percentage; though he has 5 assists. He is ranked 4th on the team for points and is tied with 9 other players for 20th in the USHL League. Not too bad for his rookie season.

Flunky
Actually, Danny tallied one goal and ONE assist, not three assists as I originally posted. I was listening to a radio report in French and obviously I mis-heard the scoring summary. Mea Culpa. Where's that darn prufe reeder anyways? Johnny_rudeboy
Danny Kristo tallied a goal and three assists in a 7-1 U.S. victory over Canada West in the Junior "A" Hockey Challenge. Go Danny Boy! He was also the the USA Team Player of the game in leading the US to the gold medal. During the tournament he scored at least a point in each of the 4 games he played (he did not play in the Russia game). His 3 goals and 4 assists (7 pts) tied him for 5th in the tournament and 3rd on the team. To put things into perspective - the tournament leader, tournamnet MVP and team mate Mike Cichy in 5 games had only 3 more points (5 goals and 5 assists) than Danny. It was an excellent tournament for the rookie.

And damn, he's the only to get that from the high school level in the USA, or are there other high school leagues? The USHL is the top tier of US high school hockey. Kristo is the first USHL player to play in the WJC while still playing in the USHL since Reggie Berg did it in 1994. The real reason Danny was invited to the the USA WJC Team tryouts was that he played a key part of the USA Team that won the gold medal at the "World Junior A Challenge" last month. In that tournament he scored three goals and 7 pts in five games. He played his best game in the Gold Medal winning game where he was named the USA player of the game. I am not sure how much of an impact he will have on the team. Most likely he will play a supporting role behind the more senior/experienced NCAA/CHL players. Flunky
I don't want to sound like a complainer, but where are these guys (Kristo & McDonagh) on the scoresheet? Team USA has scored 19 goals in the last two games (potential for 57 points) and they have a grand total of one point (an assist) in these two contests between the pair. I didn't see either game, so I can't comment, but did they both dress for both games? Any idea as to ice-time?
