am impressed... good for Dany. It was an amazing game. Both teams showed real grit.

This kid has something. Does he have a contract with Mtl yet ?? or Hamilton?? If someone can explain point like how it works? I know he is drafted now but thats it.

thx.

He has no contract with Montreal or Hamilton. He plays college hockey as far as I know, and Montreal has his rights for several more years. I assume they may offer him an entry-level, NHL, contract in a year or two and send him to Hamilton to further develop his game.

Correct. It's pretty common to not sign 2nd round draft choices right after the draft. There's no danger of losing his rights anytime soon, so they will let him develop in college and sign him when the time is right. I have full confidence that he will be playing in Hamilton in a few more years, though!

Most likely will not have to wait a few years. This kid looks really, really good. As others have posted, he is very skilled in all areas on the ice. His skating keeps him in the play seemingly at all times. I am sure that we will hear more very soon....

Here is how it generally works:

An NHL team genrally has to sign a young player drafted out of the CHL (WHL, OHL, and QMJHL) within two years of being drafted.

Players drafted at 18 years of age in the US are usually playing un the US high school leagues (USHL) and have amde a commitment to play in the NCAA. The NCAA is a 4 year program so NHL clubs do not have to sign a US drafted kid to a contract until he finishes his 4 years of playing in the NCAA; within 4-5 years of being drafted.

Even though Kristo does not need to be signed until 2013 (Montreal owns his rights) the organization can sign him to an entry level contract. In fact Montreal did that with Max Pacioretty; who in my opinion should have played at least another yaer in college - but that's another topic.

If an NCAA prospect decides to leave college for any other reason then the NHL club must sign the player or reliquish their ownership rights. This happened with Andrew Conboy (now playing in Hamilton) who was suspended in the NCAA last season.

If a player is very good, as Kristo is displaying in his rookie NCAA season, then it is unlikely that an NHL club will want to leave that prospect in the NCAA for the full 4 years.

I hope that answers some of your questions.

The following link is the Habs Prospect (and organization) webpage. Search/find the prospect profile and it will provide you the details you want to know:

^this man is correct. We still have lots of time to sign him.

Although he looked awesome in the WJC, I expect Kristo to play one more season in the NCAA, giving him time to bulk up a bit.

AC

You are quite welcome. :D

Pac is doing great. He is playing well and learning and improving in the NHL. He is an asset to the team.

I don't understand your statement

It is simple really; He should be learning and improving in the NCAA or AHL. But that is just my opinion.

I'm happy the way that he is evolving. And yes that is my opinion too. It's all good. The habs have much bigger problems to debate over.
