risteenhuis
This is not a poll. Just want fans to discuss who they think on the Montreal roster will be put on waivers this summer? My opinion is that Dandenault will be put on waivers. The expected salary cap based on TSN is $56.7 million. With Sundin hopefully accepting $7 per season or Hossa wanting $8 million per season I don't see how Montreal can keep a 4th line / press box player on the roster at the salary level paid to Dandenault. Agree. Disagree. Who do you think? Maybe no one will be put on waivers?
DA_Champion
You're assuming that Hossa or Sundin will come here. Grabovski Halak Obyrne and Halak... looking at around 4 milllion total. Kostitsyn another 4 million. That leaves 4.5 million to sign a UFA, so if he signs Sundin yes someone will be put on waivers. I guess Dandeneault, Bouillon are the most obvious candidates, though it looks bad as they're two french canadian players.
vive-latendresse
Well one of the two but not both!! I'm a french person and if it's Dandy i don't care but not Bouillon... He's really good phisically..
HabsFan1433
I think Bouillon would be a tough loss, while Dandenault wouldn't be too big of a deal if we have Sundin & Tanguay. Our forwards could be: Koivu-Kovalev-Tanguay-Higgins-AKostitsyn-SKostitsyn-Lapierre-Latendresse-Smolinski-Pleks-Begin-Sundin Or even something different if Grabovski or Chipchura or someone like that gets called up to play with us

What does being Francophone have to do with who we put on waivers? We should run the team with a "best-player" (or wost-player in this case) for the scenario attitude, not what happens to be someone's nationality or last name. However, I do agree Bouillion should stay. He isn't a show stopper, but he can get the job done fairly well.

risteenhuis
smokes is not coming back, chips will be taking his place probably, and your going to centre pleks with begin and sundin .... people these days.... I agree that it is unlikely that Smoke will be back with Chips as the most likely player to replace Smoke on the roster. I think that HabsFan1433 was simply listing the most likely forwards on the team with the assumption that Sundin would sign with Montreal. I don't think he was trying to list the lines. I like Bouillon but ironically would want him to assume the press box veteran role as Montreal has a huge log jam of young defencemen that deserve / need NHL ice time. I would only put Bouillon on waivers if BG has no choice based on signing Sundin for $1 million more then expected and A.Kostitsyn costing $500k more then expected. Dandenault is still a fast skater. Good defensively. Didn't like that he spoke out about being in the press box. Can play forward or defence. hmmm. Maybe this gives him an edge over Bouillon. Ability to play forward or defence. He could be the press box player and Bouillon could be waived if NOBODY wants to trade for him. From a financial standpoint trading Bouillon for prospects and/or draft picks would save more cap space. I wonder if PHX needs any defenceman after they traded two D to Florida for Jokinen. fourtrax
Didn't Gainey say a while back that Dandenault would either be traded or he'd remain with the team? I don't think Bob is going to go the buyout or waiver route.

risteenhuis
No one's going on waivers. You could be 100% correct. I heard/read that as well Weep, I just wish I could remember where so I could post it for confirmation. I read that also. But things might have changed with A.Kostitsyn contract, Tanguay contract and hopefully Sundin or Hossa or Jagr big contract. BG might have no choice but to get rid of some player(s) to make cap room.
tmash
Of course some players will be placed on waivers, but I highly doubt any are put on this summer. During training camp we will of course see a few to get our roster down to 20-23 men, although these almost always clear (like Locke, Danis, and others last year). For Dandenault, I wouldn't buy him out, I don't like the 2 year cap hit and we'd have to do it right now, which is bad timing (we need to be able to say to Gorges and O'Byrne: sign cheap or we'll go on without you - so the more dmen here the better). During training camp if it's determined we don't need Dandenault, I'd prefer waivers and re-entry waivers to the buyout and we can do this at any time. Of course there's no guarantee anyone takes him, but at under a million he'd probably be a good pickup for a team lacking depth/experience. In any case, I wouldn't worry about waivers until September.

Morrighane
Bouillon was raised by his mom in Montreal ( Hochelaga-Maisonneuve ). He spent his childhood and played hockey there. However, I don't know what happened next, but I read last year in La Presse that he still lives there with his family. But to get back on topic, I think that Dandeneault should be put on waivers. French-speaking or not, I don't mind. As long as it's because we do no longer need that player, who cares about if he is Canadian /German /American and/or whatever. Just don't put any political issues in this thread, please. We're here to discuss hockey, not politics. ... and I guess I will have tomatoes thrown at me, but I don't care about Grabovski and Locke as well. They both can go play someplace else, I don't mind. Same goes for Brisebois, Smolinski and Latendresse.

darren19
The players that have been put on waivers recently have pretty hefty contracts, not really the case for Dandenault. There's not really any reason not to keep him till the start of the season. He's a team player and you never know what can happen with injuries. Brisebois
So? Danny Heatley was born in Germany, does that make him German? Nope because we have a different system in Germany than in the USA. If you're born in the USA you can get the US citizenship even if your parents aren't US citizens. In Germany however you have to live at least 8 years if you were born here by parents that don't have the german citizenship.
