js2
Is this the veteran goaltender Gainey was getting for Hamilton?
Hemsky83_09
Here are his stats for the past 2 years. Could be a steal if he ever finds his game again, but he's not going to be moving anyone out of Montreal anytime soon. He's a mentor and capable starter in the AHL as of right now. 2006-2007Lightning 44 2,352 17 18 - 2 125 1,068 1 3.19 .883 2007-2008Lightning 10 414 1 5 - 0 28 199 0 4.05 .
bailey1
Pretty good signing if he's going to Hamilton. I didn't expect Dejardins to carry the full load of games...and no way is Lacasse ready to even be a backup in the AHL(yet). Also to add...if we decide to part ways with Halak...I'd have confidence in Denis to be backup to Price.

TheRightPrice
Does this mean BG wont sign Halak? I hope not. I really like Halak. Unless he wants to use him in a sign and trade.
Hemsky83_09
Does this mean BG wont sign Halak? Halak was given a qualifying offer unless he decides to go elsewhere, he's as good as signed.
Kristopher7
Reading Denis' career stats makes me cringe with disgust... not sure what in the world BG is doing... unless he wants to give Montreals a chance to play in their hometown (Denis and Laraque signings). Price/Halak is still the obvious combo so I'll assume Denis is going to Hamilton since Dannis went to the Islanders?

Have to disagree with you at this time GH. Denis is a capable AHL'er right now. Confidence is an all time low. New team, new atmosphere Denis may once again be a good goalie in the NHL, but not yet. Could be very interesting come trade deadline next year though.

Although Denis isn't playing well, he certainly does bring our goalie depth back to where it was: Secure. I am hoping though that Price(duh) and Halak will be our #1 and 2. But, I do have confidence, lets just say, if injury were to arise in the big club(between the pipes) that Denis would be a better candidate to come up from Hamilton, then Desjardins would be. Thus, smart signing by Bob...and great that it's a two-way-deal(Denis doesn't have to go through waivers, and he gets paid 2 different salary wages when playing in the AHL or NHL) And this also takes the French Press off of BG's arse. Well said, Greek. Denis is #3; good, experienced (and needed) pick-up. Desjardins will likely still get close to 1/2 the games for the 'Dogs, as he continues to develop. No way Halak is going anywhere to make room for a 'tender (Denis) who let in 15% of the shots he faced in Tampa last year -- Price gets injured and the Habs would be toast. Michael19Cammalleri67
1. Price 2. Halak 3. Denis 4. Desjardin If halak or Price get injured we got a guy to replace him. Mediocore move.
bailey1
Medicore move, but a move we wouldn't have been able to make before today. Also, if Denis ever does get the chance to play with the Big Club, if he'll actually make the saves with a proper defence core *couch*which TB never had*cough* in front of him. Kindred
Greek Hab makes a good point about the whole injury angle. I personally feel this is Gainey covering all bases. If something should happen and Halak could fetch us a good return then Bob needs to have a backup. Also withthis signing it puts more pressure on Halak to take the offer given to him. codo27
IMO not as big as the Laraque signing, but playing in MTL should be big enough motivation for any Quebecer, any true competitor really.
