Kopitar Trade Rumours!!

Recommended Posts

I just came across this rumour on the sports site of the swiss national television homepage, so it's only in german. It doesn't say much, but what it says is quite intriguing to say the least. According to this article there might be a three way deal in the making between Chicago, Los Angeles and Ottawa. It would look like this:

To Chicago:

Anze Kopitar

To Los Angeles:

Martin Gerber

To Ottawa:

Nikolai Khabibulin

I don't think that it's going to happen just player for player straight up. IMHO LA would be dumb. I couldn't understand if they traded Kopitar in the first place but if they do, then there should be something more involved coming their way... - Trade rumours concerning Antoine Vermette anyone?

But honestly, I can't see the Kings accepting that trade, not after they shipped center Cammalleri to Calgary just this off-season..

More realistic:

To Chicago:

Anze Kopitar

To Los Angeles:

Martin Gerber

1st round pick 2009

2nd round pick 2009

To Ottawa:

Nikolai Khabibulin

I agree, it's more realistic but I still think LA would come short here and these picks better come from Chicago or Ottawa'd be robbed too in this trade. LA should also get a center in return instead of the 2nd rounder (or should want a center, since they already traded away Cammalleri this summer).

For example:

To Chicago:

Anze Kopitar

To Los Angeles:

Martin Gerber

Antoine Vermette

1st round pick 2009 (from Chicago)

To Ottawa:

Nikolai Khabibulin

2nd round pick 2009 (from Chicago)

I still think LA would be dumb to do it, but like this it seems to be at least a little more balanced.

EDIT: I know Chicago would be giving up quite a lot now, but they get a great young center with loads of potential in Kopitar and they're prospects pool is quite loaded after all those years of sucking so I guess they can afford losing the two picks... Their probably loaded enough on young talent that they could pull off a deal with another team in order to get a pick back for the '09 draft if they feel it's necessary.

If I recall the original trade was:

To Ott:

Khabibulin

Seasbrook or Baker

To LA:

Gerber

Meszaros

To Chi:

Kopitar

do you also remember where this rumour originally came up? i guess it wasn't the swiss national television sports team, because those idiots normally don't give ***** on hockey and know even less about it, so they must've found something floading around the internet or something...

An Ottawa paper and they said the trade was close to being done.

this would be worst than the Thornton trade... or the leafs signing Jeff Finger

Everyone Price is up for grabs and we only want 2 above average if not average players in return.

QFT! That's exactly what I thought when I read about the trade first... and signing Finger to such a ridiculous deal isn't even close as stupid IMO. It would probably go into history as the worst salary-cap-era trade ever

To Montreal:

Anze Kopitar

1st round pick 2009 Los angelas

To Los Angeles:

Martin Gerber

2nd round pick 2009 Ottawa

7th round pick 2009 Ottawa

To Ottawa:

3rd round pick 2009 Montreal

Alex Kovalev

I made the trade from 5% possible to 15% possible. I love these crazy talk

Honestly, do you think LA would ever give up Kopitar and a probably very high first round pick for gerber, a 2nd and a 7th rounder?? you just made the deal from "never going to happen" to "never going to happen too" ;)
