2008-2009 Broadcasts

Just go to NHL.com it has complete schedule for every national station in USA and Canada.

TSN = 15 Habs Games

CBC = 15 Habs Games (a glarring issue is the lack of Saturday games, they have opted to go for the Leafs. All we can hope for is the Leafs blow and CBC picks up the Habs games like they did a few last season)

VERSUS = 3 Habs Games

In total, 33 Montreal Canadiens games will be nationwide. Seems like a small number but compared to other teams, excluding Toronto, that is great exposure.

Just a tease here. Not every national station's schedule is on NHL.com. I can't find RDS. :P

The press release is pathetic. The CBC is gloating that HNIC will be showing only 69 games. Last year, there were 87 games. This is a major decrease and there will be only one split telecast, what is Scott Moore doing? He should be fired for this terrible schedule.

CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, which is entering its 56th-straight year broadcasting NHL games, will show 69 games, including 25 all-Canadian matchups, featuring three games each between Toronto and Ottawa for the Battle of Ontario and Calgary and Edmonton for the Battle of Alberta.

I really noticed that, they are not doing many split broadcasts which leaves Ottawa and Montreal out in the cold most Saturdays. Hopefully they will pick up more games as the season progresses, they did that last sesason.

Now I don't remember if the schedule was like this when it was first released for last season, but last year there were a large amount of times when CBC had 3 or 4 broadcasts going on a Saturday.

This season, it appears that CBC has gone to only 2 broadcasts on almost all Saturdays. I wonder if this is a cost-cutting measure or what? Maybe they will pick up the other games as the season progresses....Let's hope.

An absolutely awful schedule this year. Is this because CBC is paying a lot more for the rights now? They can't afford to do split telecasts anymore? If that's the case, just throw in the white flag and let CTV show NHL games. They have enough money to show every Canadian team every Saturday night on CTV, TSN and TSN2.

How come RDS is HD in Quebec, but isn't outside of Quebec. I'm in southern Ontario and I bought a HD TV, a digital box and ordered RDS especially to see the glorious Tricolore games. But no HD....I don't get it.

This has been dicussed before. People have called/written to their digital Cable providers and have asked the same question, but nothing has gotten done.

Not sure about Satelite TV, since i don't have it, but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing... <_<

I am totally buying into that RDS online streaming package this season. I don't have cable, but it's like, what? $30 to get all the games streamed on your computer for the whole season?

Yeah, count me in too!

Actually I had cable in my last apartment for two years and although I only paid for Videotron's basic cable package, I had all those extra channels like TSN, RDS, Discovery Channel, Historia, etc. free of charge! Obviously I would never complain about such great value added services and I firmly believed in being part of some customer satisfaction program initiated by my cable provide ;)

Anyhow, I eventually moved to a different apartment last June and unfortunately I don't have all the channels anymore. I tried to work something out with the technician who came here, cited customary rights and general custom and practice, but he didn't wanna hear any of it. As a consequence, I canceled my cable deal the next day, since TSN, RDS, and Discovery were the only channels I would tune into anyways.

The RDS online deal is great - I don't watch TV regularly apart from hockey so that's definitely what I'll go for :)

i was on the leafs board and their saying the habs are cbc's featured team,but i thought they were only showing 15 of our games.

Right know i'm sorta confused :wacko:

CBC's article said that this season all eyes and focus would be on Canadiens. Doesn't reflect that on the number of games but maybe what will happen when we are on HNIC.

The other thing to remember about saturday games is that last season ALL habs saturday games were broadcast free on CBC.ca And since its from a real source, (not an illegal stream) the speed/clarity was excellent.

I think you got this wrong. I remember there were Saturday game's I wanted to see last year but they showed the laffs on TV so I went on cbcsports.ca to check the stream and they only had habs game streaming if it was also on CBC TV in the Quebec region.

I got rid of cable tv years ago so I wouldn't have to deal with them only giving you certain channels,so I went and got satellite so i could get what i wanted and the most valuable channel for me is RDS,i can't speak or understand any french but I watch all the games even though i don't now what they are saying it sounds a lot more exciting just watching the games even if no goals are being scored.Anything is better than listening to CBC's Bob Cole killing the game with his commentary.
