Johnny_rudeboy
I think Flunky has a good idea so I have started a New Topic on his behalf. How about we start up a "name the B-Dogs 08-09 starting roster" contest. Everybody gets to submit a squad, and we see who gets the closest to the actual opening night starting line-up. Nothing on the line, just bragging rights. Besides, there hasn't been a decent new thread here for awhile anyhoo. As Flunky aptly put it do your projected line ups and I will correlate the results. The deadline for submissions will be the beginning of the Habs Training Camp (20 September). I will PIN the topic if there are 10 or more posts. If there is no interest I will shut it down. I am interested to see how it runs.

Johnny_rudeboy
cool and what do we get if we win? As Flunky said "it's just for fun" and bragging rights. You win the respect and admiration of all, and the honorary title "Big Dog". I love it. Now it's official; so I will add it to the topic title. Johnny_rudeboy
15 forwards and 8 defensemen? I have included players from the ECHL Champions in Cincinatti that will be vying for a spot on the Dogs roster. I believe last year the Dogs carried 22 players. The goalies are set with Denis and Desjardins so that makes 2. So of the remaining 20 create 4 forward lines, 3 defencemen pairings, and the two projected spares. I know it will be somewhat more of a challenge; but it will apply for everyone though.
js2
So we just list the players we think will make the team?
Johnny_rudeboy
So we just list the players we think will make the team? I would say yes but I went back to Flunky's original post and he suggested it be the starting line up for opening night. "Everybody gets to submit a squad, and we see who gets the closest to the actual opening night starting line-up." So that makes it more of a challenge. Ives
Is the list above the projected players? I mean there is only 23 guys there... not much to pick from. Forwards 10 J.T. Wyman (LW) - played 8 AHL games (last season) 22 Matt D'Agostini (RW) - played 76 AHL games last season (total of 139 AHL games) 39 Brock Trotter (C/) - played 21 AHL games (last season) 70 Greg Stewart (LW) - on Habs roster - has played 69 AHL games (all last season) 51 David Desharnais (C/) - has played 4 AHL games (last season) 82 Thomas Beauregard (RW) Ryan Flinn (LW/RW) - has played 245 AHL games Mike Glumac (RW/C) - has played 332 AHL games Yanick Lehoux (C/) - has played 315 AHL games Ben Maxwell (C/) Ryan White (C/) Max Pacioretty (LW) 16 Ryan Russell - has played 24 AHL games (over 2 seasons) 42 Olivier Latendresse (C/W) - has played 24 AHL games (over 2 seasons) 78 Mathieu Aubin (RW/C) - has played 37 AHL games (over 2 seasons) Defencemen 5 Jon Gleed - has played 30 AHL games (over 2 seasons) 6 Conrad Martin - has played 43 AHL games (all last season) 25 Pavel Valentenko - has played 57 AHL games (all last season) 72 Mathieu Carle - has played 64 AHL games (all last season) Shawn Belle - has played 181 AHL games Chad Anderson - has played 55 AHL games Alex Henry (D/LW) - can play defence or left wing - has played 63 NHL games and 144 AHL games Yannick Weber (finally signed 15 August) Goalies 33 Cedrick Desjardins - has played 15 AHL games (over 2 seasons) Marc Denis - veteran NHLer Those are my picks for 100% playing in the first game. Flunky
Since there aren't that many players to choose from to begin with (approx.23 players as of now), I thought that the starting line-up on opening night (20 players) would be more challenging. And considering that there will still probably be multiple identical line-ups, I suggest a tie breaker format where each entrant also predicts the first B-Dogs goal of the regular season, with scorer, assists and time of the goal. spoked-b
I thought youd have to make your own starting lineup like this: Forwards: Glumac- Yannick Lehoux- Pacioretty Agostini- David Desharnais- Thomas Beauregard Latendresse -Ben Maxwell- Wyman Aubin- Ryan White- Stewart Defence: Carle- Valentenko Weber- Belle Anderson- Martin I thought whoever got closest to opening nights starting roster would win. js2
Here's what I expect to see on opening night. Pacioretty - Lehoux - D'Agostini Latendresse - Desharnais - Glumac Stewart - White - Beauregard Wyman - Maxwell - Trotter Carle - Anderson Henry - Valentenko Weber - Belle Denis Desjardins By the way, isn't Martin gone? Johnny_rudeboy
Not that I know of. He was signed to a PTO then an AHL contract last year. Johnny_rudeboy
Here's what I expect to see on opening night. Pacioretty - Lehoux - D'Agostini Latendresse - Desharnais - Glumac Stewart - White - Beauregard Wyman - Maxwell - Trotter Carle - Anderson Henry - Valentenko Weber - Belle Denis Desjardins This is what we are looking for so just follow Js2's format. As Flunky posted earlier a tie breaker may occur so if everyone could predict on first B-Dogs goal of the regular season, 1) the time of the goal, 2) the scorer, 3) the players assisting on the goal. Anyone think that we will need a second tie breaker?
js2
D'Agostini assisted by Lehoux and Carle at 8:20 into the 1st.

Johnny_rudeboy
Starting Roster Forward Lines D'Agostini-Lehoux-Pacioretty Glumac-Maxwell-O. Latendresse Stewart-White-Wyman Flinn-Desharnais-Trotter Spare forward - Aubin Martin - Valentenko Belle - Carle Henry - Weber Spare defencemen - Anderson Goalies Denis (#1) Desjardins (Back-up) Even though the schedule has the Dogs first two games on the road I am looking at the home opener as the game to use for the contest 1. Friday, October 10, 2008, 8:30 p.m. – Hamilton Bulldogs at Manitoba Moose (2008-2009 season opener) 2. Saturday, October 11, 2008, 8:30 p.m. – Hamilton Bulldogs at Manitoba Moose 3. Friday, October 17, 2008, 7:30 p.m. – Hartford Wolf Pack at Hamilton Bulldogs (2008-2009 home opener) For the tie breaker. I predict the first goal will be scored by Max Pacioretty and assisted by Lehoux and D'Agostini at 10:15 of the 1st period.
