#14 - Tomas Plekanec 2008-09

Can't wait to see what magic he has in store for us this season. So underrated...love what he brings to this team. Would be nice to see him lead this team in points. :)

ditto ditto

If he gives us a season equivalent to last year's, I'll be happy. If it's equivalent to last year's minus the March/April slump, I'll be SUPER happy :)

In my opinion he is our most complete player in everything, except maybe size, and he certainly plays bigger than he is! :D

This guy has attitude, discipline, toughness, hands, skill and intelligence. I think we will see another strong season from him, I fully expect him to even exceed this past year!

It was a privilege to watch him in Hamilton and is a joy to watch him in Montreal!

GO PLEKS!!!!! #14

Hopefully he learned something from last year's play-offs because he was not impressive.

I think he did. He was self-critical, and as the post-season went on he got better and better (in my opinion). I believe he was scoring 1gpg in the last 3 games before Philadelphia eliminated us. I'm sure this season he's going to put up more points, play a bigger game, and not disappoint us when it comes to crunch time! ;)

With Carbs saying his lines are 99% set, it would seem likely that Pleks continues to center AK46 and AK27... however that could change if another forward named Sundin enters the mix... I said could, not will.

Pleks has to be considered as one of the top-six IMO... no other way I can see him being the impact player he has become.

I've noticed a pleasantly disturbing trend with Thomas Plekanec...In his past 2 seasons in MTL his point totals have ballooned considerably...He went from 29 to 47 points in 06-07 and 47 to 69 points in 07-08.

Now if this trend continues with Plekanec he could tally as high as 95 points (!) in 08-09...Just curious, if anyone thinks that this is something that could be achievable for Pleks?

Perhaps not THAT high, but definitely higher. A lot of pundits seem to think last year was maximum output for Pleks. I think he's still working towards a PPG pace. I expect him to be between 75 and 85 points this season. Anything otherwise and I would be surprised. Not disappointed, but surprised. ;)

Plekanec should come out in high gear this season. Last year he showed he can center a top line in the NHL and this year he'll be looking to prove last year wasn't a fluke and that he can continue to skate with the best. As for point totals, with the addition of Tanguay and presumably better secondary scoring Plekanec's point totals may dip a bit from last year or improve slights (low 70s), but I fully expect his play to be on par with last year. Hopefully without that little illness/slump.

95 this year is lofty, imho. I do think that if his wingers continue to give him support like last year, his points will go up & somewhere between 75 - 85 pts is not out of the question. I would also not be surprised to see him break the 100pt barier (providing Kostitsyn continues to develop the way I think he will) but that likely wont be for a couple more years.

Through all of the trade rumors that involved pleks, Im so glad we've kept him.

Pleks is a testament to solid drafting...This team is finally drafting like contenders do (ie. Detroit, New Jersey) and it's starting to show in the on-ice product.

95 points (!)... That would be some accomplishment. The last time we saw a player break the 90's was back in 1995-96 when Vinny Damphousse (94 pts.) and Pierre Turgeon (96 pts.) both did it.

Most of the league knows about Plekanec now, previously a well-kept secret. The book on him is to handle him physically and he will tend to shy away from contact. Having said that, I think the playoffs were an awakening for him (as they were for most) and he knows he's got to be stronger on the puck and a little tougher. If he plays scared, he is less inclined to weave laterally through coverage in search of the open man or dead ice. His shiftiness and acceleration is what makes him so effective and if he stays loyal to that game, I don't see why he shouldn't finish the year with 65-75 points. Utlimately, Pleks' point totals will depend heavily on how often his linemates put the puck in the net.

79 would be a pretty number ;)

IMO, Pleks is a player who is simply going to get better and better, I don't think he's reached his potential yet. Oh and whoever said he is underrated is definitely right. After last season, I'm hoping he'll become a Datsyuk type player. I think it took Datsyuk some time to get to where he is, and I hope the same goes for Pleks. Not a Crosby/Malkin/Ovechkin type who come to the NHL dominating, but someone who simply progresses and improves over the years to become a superstar.

I think Datsyuk is much stronger than Plekanec is. I hope Plekanec can reach a similar amount of potential, but Datsyuk is pretty awesome! I'm not sure if Plekanec will be THAT good.
