#26 - Josh Gorges 2008-09

Josh is kinda the un-talked about one out of the new D mix it seems. How does everyone think he will fit into the habs this year?

Gainey seems to be going with more physicality (is that a word) so I wonder if he's going to tweak some more. But assuming Gorges stays I'd rather see him on the third pairing with Gill. I'd prefer:

Markov - Mara

Spacek - Hamrlik

Gill - Gorges

O'Byrne, Weber, Subban

Keep things consistent: 1st pairing names start with M, 2nd pairing names end with K and 3rd pairing names start with G.

I like him on third line as well!!!

Yep, Josh captained the Rockets to a Memorial cup, didn't he?

And I agree - I'm sure Gomez will soon become our new captain, though in a few years I'd love to see Josh as captain!!

And I've said it before, but I also think Gorges doesn't nearly get enough credit...

As for pairings, I'd like to see:

Markov, Spacek

Gorges, Gill

Mara, Hamrlik

haha it's been FOREVER since I've posted on here. But I just had to post something once I saw this thing about him and the C.

I will say NO to that. Sure I'd love to see it, but I think there's some other players on the team that would be better suited to have the role of the Capt then Josh would.

Future Captain? Wow. Tom Kostopoulos' first choice anyway, according to the interview with him on team 990.

I was probably as surprised as the next guy when hearing this.

Markov is the best player and probably the longest running with the team. But I really doubt that Markov will be the captain with the language barriers. Gomez could become the captain. But it would seem strange to me that a new player to the team would be given the "C" as there is no proof that he is worthy of such an honour. Gorges was captain of his junior team. At least twice in his short time in Montreal there have been situations when Gorges has dropped the gloves after a teammate was given a dirty hit. I would be okay with Gorges as our captain. I felt that when he was paired with Markov after the Komi injury in the Lucic fight that he was extremely good on the 1st D pairing. Better then Komi.

Captain Gorges with "A" for Markov and "A" for Gomez

Happy Belated birthday to Josh...that prank caller is extremely stupid and it could be Josh on the other end but I doubt it.

I also agree that Gorges would be a good captain. He was a good captain of the Rockets and led them to the Memorial Cup.

However, I know Gomez is a new player to the team, but I still think that he'll be given the C very soon. Gorges should definitely get an A though, and he will definitely be a future captain (hopefully)!

Offensively, it would be nice if Josh could give us 6 or 7 goals and add 20-25 assists. I can really see him being a 40 point Dman in a couple years.

He as been able to prove a lot of people wrong at numerous times in his career. But a 40 point man!!!! He will need to prove me wrong.

Don't get me wrong I love Jorges. What he brings to the ice and the way he continully takes a beating to make the play. I am always astonished that he can just skate away on those hits he continualy takes. His play should inspire any one, especcially the rookies and prospects!

I would be happy for him and the Habs if he could develop into a 2 line (4th) Dman.

Maybe my hopes are a tad far fetched...but he just really impresses with me with a solid first pass out of the zone, he actually moves the puck pretty well (minus the games he was concussed). Last year, he notched 23 points..so if he continues to improve and move up to a permanent 2nd line dman he could starting getting more assists I think.

There are not a lot of Dman that get 40 points in a year.
