leafs_rock_go_mccabe
FIRSTLY! Thanks to the moderators for putting up new player threads. Secondly, I am super excited to see how Chipchura is going to perform this season. I hope his skating has improved, and I am sure he's going to provide excellent 3rd/4th line centering duties! People expect him to one day wear a letter on his jersey, so let's see how he handles his first full NHL season, eh? Go Chipchura!

koreysecord1992
I've got a strong feeling that Chipchura will be on the team coming out of camp. Unlike last year, however, I think he'll solidify a spot in the line-up.

Unlike last year, however, I think he'll solidify a spot in the line-up. I believe Gainey has already mentioned the 4th line center role is his to lose, so... I also fully anticipate him playing consistently straight out of training camp. I hope his work in the face-off circle is better this season! flames4eva
Wiil he make it? That's the question I have... not because I think he shouldn't. A lot of "IFS" come into play should other players be signed at the forward position unless others are on their way out. I liiked what I saw of Chips last year and was somewhat surprised that he was sent back down to Hamilton.
jordanjordan
I wish this guy would just stay with the club so we can see what he's made of. I don't understand why we take any veteran who comes on board and plays badly and stays put, yet chipchura has been doing everything right just about, and he gets pushed around like he's just some free agent we signed to play in hamilton. He is a first round pick and not for nothing, latendresse has been one of our worst forwards each year and he keeps getting chance after chance. Chips has played great in Hamilton, was drafted in the 1st round and we are still fooling around with smolinski's and not giving the rightfull roster spot to the guy who earned it so far! maybe we are forgetting the trend that has started for the past couple of years, YOUTH! All the way, using key veterans but letting the youngsters fight for the open jobs. I've always said this, if chips can't hold down the 3rd line center job by his contract year i think he will be wanting to try somewhere else. I know he's restricted but it hasnt stopped players from being traded or finding new jobs somewhere else.

utreder
I think maybe Gainey was thinking of Brendan Morrow when he drafted Kyle Chipchura.

leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Already 23 players on the roster. As far as I understood, Gainey's intentions were to have Chipchura play with us in Montreal this season. Perhaps this isn't going to happen? I would be so disappointed if he was sent back to Hamilton or traded. I can't believe Dandenault might possibly be getting a spot on the team over Chipchura! I feel like Chipchura could offer the team more at this point in time. Urgh, I sure hope he makes the team!
cbarker78
I'd like to see Chipchura get another shot but it just might not happen. He will have alot to prove in training camp.I get the feeling if he isn't a regular this season for the habs he could be dealt. I would be shocked if he didn't get a chance this season! I would just be so disappointed. His pedigree seems to be that of a real leader, and I had always heard that he was a very good defensive center. I can't believe Dandenault might get that spot over Chipchura! utreder
Considering how good he is along the boards, I think he could have had a major effect in the Philly series if he'd been played.

bailey1
This kid is going to suprise a few people this year. I am banking on a 15 goal year from him... I don't mean to be a downer, but the only possible way Chips is staying up with the big club, is if Dandenault get traded/bought out. Lang has pretty much pushed Kyle down the ladder for the centre position this year. By all means, I wanted Chipchura to play this year. I think he would have made an awesome 3rd 4th line centreman, but Gainey chose experience over youth. We would be in the same situation now, if Sundin had been brought in. !!Now I'm not comparing Lang to Sundin, but "The Position Has Been Filled" as they say. HabsFanInCalgary
Hopefully we see Chips w/ the Habs, but I doubt its to start the season. We'll need to do some moving around to fit him in. Too many centers. Koivu, Plecky, Lang, Higgins, Begin and Lapierre are all 'ahead of him at this point in time. Who do you drop out to get him in the lineup?

You've said it right there... for half of the cost Chips could easily replace Dandenault, who's days as a Canadiens unfortunately may be numbered. However, many are over looking the possibility that another player could be sent down to Hamilton... and with eight potential d-men on the current roster, Ryan O'Byrne could be that player. I'm not saying I would like that to happen, but it is still a possibility. If you look back to last year's playoffs O'Byrne did not play too much and Dandeanault was in the line-up along with Bouillon. As well, whether Chips or Lapierre get that final center position is not decided either.

I do think, however, Chipchura is the one who has to EARN the spot out of camp. Dandenault, Lapierre, and O'Byrne have roster spots to lose, where as Chipcahura has to, as Carbonneau has been saying, steal one! With that said, I still think Dandenault gets traded/bought out, and Chipchura gets his 4th line position on the club and plays regular minutes with some combination of Lapierre, Kostopoulos, Begin, and Laraque. Is that really better for his development than Hamilton? Begin, Kostopoulos, Lapierre, Laracques, Chipchura... that's five guys. I think the regulars will be the first three I mentioned, Carbonneau seems to like Kostopoulos, and Lapierre sounds like hes been working hard; that being said I can't see Laracques playing less than say 50 games. There's only 82*3 = 246 games to go around between the three of them. 60 each for the first three, 50 for Laracques (both conservative lowball estimates), and you have 36 games left. Kyle C is in the unenviable situation of hoping someone gets injured.

I think Lapierre is much more suited to playing the wing. Lapierre likes to forecheck, get in deep, go to the net, things you want your wingers to do. I think he resembles Claude Lemieux alot, although the finish isn't there yet. Chipchura is always around the puck, and he covers the centre of the ice much better than Lapierre, although Lapierre covers more ice. I think the second year of seasoning will make him better in the long run. I hope his ego doesn't impede his relations with Carbo, who knows a thing or two about playing centre. I can't see Carbo fielding 3 lines with lefties on the right wing to start the season, so I expect that Chipchura will battle Begin, who has to dig himself out of the doghouse, and Maxwell for the last centre spot. tony1234
He is in a bit of a spot for sure. There is one sure way onto the line up. Have such a great camp that the team has no choice but to give him a spot.
