risteenhuis
Does Halak challenge Price for number 1? Does Halak start 30+ games for Montreal? Does Halak watch Price play 70+ games? Only time will tell.
puckoff1
dont be surprised if halak gets some significant time. carey will have his rough spots and jaro is a very good goalie. if he gets a chance to play and gets hot carbo will give him his playing time. i think theres a good chance he could play close to 30 games next year. astroboy
I don't typically get involved in the "First!" message board madness, but this time I'll be happy to be the first to wish Jaro all the best in the forthcoming season, hoping the answers to fansince1975's aforementioned questions will be YES, YES and most definitely NO. Ideš, Jaro, budeš hviezda! (in case I'm breaking any rule concerning language use, here's a translation - Go Jaro, you're gonna be a star! )

I agree.....I hope Halak gets all the chance to succeed, along with Price......only thing i'm worried about is if either of them struggle...as much as i'm glad they have a guy in Marc Denis who has alot of NHL experience and can help anyone of the youngsters...Price, Halak and even Desjardins... i kinda have a feeling that if Price or Halak struggle, that more then likely Halak would be sent down to the AHL and Denis will be called up and Halak be screwed again

madsprite18
I've been saying it for a long time.......this guy is as good as Price in his own way.....you can't really compare the two because they have different strengths and attributes but from the first I saw Halak at skills competition in Hamilton to last year's (short) playoff appearance I have been impressed......he has a tendency towards shutouts and complete domination when he is on, which is most of the time. My only two worries about him are the one lapse he had at the start of last year's AHL season.......it could be put down to (rightful) disappointment about not making the NHL (and about being denied a chance to take the Dogs to the Calder Cup)_......although that is making excuses, a goalie must be mentally ready no matter what or he shouldn't play.......he recovered very nicely and became dominant again, almost taking the Bulldogs into second place (and when he left the team collapsed) He was strong in his few NHL starts and played well against Philadelphia. The other problem, of course, is possible lack of playing time........I think if the Admin is smart it will start the season as a 40-60 tandem or even a 50-50 tandem, to see what Halak can do at the NHL, to push both him and Price........he is too good to leave on the bench. It will be a great season for Jaro I'm sure.......best of luck to him!
Habcup
this guy may not be better than Price but he has the potential to be a true #1 goalie in this league. Halak step to th eplate and show us what you can do. The past has not been friendly to you given the great things you have done for Mtl. Hope the future is bright! You deserve it!! Nothing was handed to you on a Silver platter
Janooo
Jaro, all the best! Remember, one save at the time. It does not matter how many you did in the past or how many you will make in the future. It's important to make the next one. Nothing else matters! Good luck! I don't think Carbo will ever give him the chance, unless Price is injured. Halak has come out of nowhere, and proved himself incredibly, at every level, and when he deserved the chance, the most, Carbo put Huet in goal, and cost us the playoffs. I just keep shaking my head, at how Halak keeps getting mistreated. Unless something drastic happens, first chance at unrestricted free agency, Halak is gone. Although he didn't come from nowhere, so has Price. Halak could be a #1 goalie on a lot of teams but, unfortunately for him, this isn't one of them. I don't think Halak has been mistreated at all. When Huet was here and Price wasn't, he was rightfully number 2 in the pecking order. When Huet was traded and Price was here, Halak again was rightfully number 2. RadioHab
I think Halak will see about 1/3 of the action this season. I believe that he is a very capable tender who is probably equally responsible for the Huet trade than Price is. They wanted to develop there young goalies and Halak is more than capable of taking an active #2 role on this club. I for one will be very happy to see him play in Montreal as I have been a fan since he led the push to the playoffs 2-3 years ago. He has out grown Hamilton and is where he belongs now. Price was drafted in the first round, near the top. Bob Gainey knew he was getting potential first rate goalie. Price was given every opportuunity to succeed. Halak was drafted late. Started in the 'I'. Did great, brought up to the 'A'. Did great. Brought up after we dumped 'whoever was Huet's backup, can't remember his name now' Brought the habs within a game of the playoffs, and Carbo blunders, and puts a rusty Huet in against the Laffs, and KEEPS him in after the rediculous goals. Yeah, I think Halak doesn't get any respect. Oh yeah, Ryder didn't do much that game! That's a very good point. By trading Huet management showed they had a lot of faith in both Price and Halak. I expect Halak will get between 25 and 30 games this year which is significant playing time.

If halak is better then why did he play less nhl games in 2 seasons then price in one. Bob gainey and trevor timmins picked the better goalie last season to backup huet.
