i missed the game but i'm glad to hear it was his best yet. markov was never one to jump out of the gates and we're only four games in.

that's four consecutive games with a point? and +4?! not bad for a mediocre start. :D

hehe, not bad at all. and lookie which team will be in town saturday... do i hear some meep meep's already? :D

that must've been a long time ago because I thought Markov was voted the Russian elite leagues best D-man for at least 2 years before coming here

I believe he did convert shortly after we drafted him. I am not sure if it was something the Montreal organization had anything to do with, and I have no evidence/articles to back up my claim, but yeah... I had heard he was drafted as a forward, but then convereted to D. When, where, and why? Who knows?

i'm almost positive the habs drafted him as a dman. it was a russian coach early in his career (17yrs old or something) that asked him if he could play d and then he made the switch. (from an old article that i can't find now).

either way, he can play well at both ends of the ice. :)

That is the correct story. The russian junior team had needs on D but had no spot on forward. Markie switched to make the team.

Thanks for that information.

Pretty devoted to making the team, switching to defence. It ended up being a good decision!

"Selected 1998 by Montreal round 6 #162 overall"

What a steal!

Whoa. I never realized he was drafted so far down the list. He could probably be considered for the best defenceman award this year (the name has slipped my memory).

The Norris Trophy. And unless he completely blows the season (which I don't suspect he will), I'd be shocked if he weren't up for consideration.

Meep Meep! ;)

Tanguay sure caught on fast on the consultant's lesson, and Markie remembered well too. 2 more points and +3 with not even 20 minutes played :D Smart move by Carbo to cut his ice time a bit today seeing how the yotes were out for blood in the second. Markov was invisible in a good way tonight :)
