this is a totally unsubstantiated rumour I heard somewhere but it is funny:

Johnson's story about how he got injured is the official 'cover' story, he really got hurt in a drunken, golf cart polo game...

Well Wayne he did get hurt in a golf cart.

"Johnson, 20, was injured during a team golf outing on Sept. 16 when his right foot got caught between the accelerator and the brake of his golf cart."

It is confirmed that he will miss the 2008/09 season.

oh, I don't doubt it happened on a golf course and involved a golf cart, but is the 'official' story what really happened? ;)

Out for the full season, that's a crazy injury. Not many (maybe one or two a year in the entire NHL) are able to do that to a player, at least a young one. And with all he goes through on the ice: the high speeds, heavyweight body checks, etc; he does it in a golf cart! What are the odds?

But sorry for him, he must be pretty upset about this.

Ya this isn't football or baseball where people blow out crucial ligaments all the time. Peopls just get really really bruised and banged.

St. Louis Blues defenseman Erik Johnson, out for the season after injuring his knee during a preseason team golf outing in September, had surgery to repair a damaged ligament.

Johnson, the first overall pick of the 2006 draft, is expected to be ready for training camp next season. He tore two ligaments when his foot got stuck in a golf cart.
